The Pillars were not signposted from the main road, DOC says kaimanawa rd yet that is not signposted either. Need to take the Rangipo Powerstation sign. The you drive on and on hoping for the best. ...

seems that some time back someone had an idea to make a walking/biking track, put a bit of effort into developing it and that's where it ended. needs on going maintenance.
A bit of walking in places
Started from Southern end. Some steep parts badly eroded so had to walk in places. Some easy biking in beautiful bush. Good ride from Pillars of Hercules swing bridge out to SH 1.
