Penang's Komtar is a treasure trove full of surprises!
Many people visit Penang may not be aware of this place, where you can enjoy the urban scenery and charming coastline of Penang. It's a must-visit spot when traveling to Penang! Here lies the Rainbow Skywalk, located at the tallest building in Penang, the Komtar Complex. The Komtar Complex itself has undergone several changes. It houses the largest shopping mall in Penang and was once a government office building. It was only after the complex added three more floors to the original 65, reaching 68 floors, and opened an outdoor observation deck with a glass floor at the top, known as the Rainbow Skywalk we see today, that it gradually came back into the public eye.
👉 Travel Tips: The Komtar Complex has 68 floors, and the sightseeing elevator can take you directly to the 65th floor, where there is an indoor observation deck with a section of glass flooring that allows you to see the ground below the 65 floors, which is quite thrilling. There are also outdoor activities like skywalking that challenge your adrenaline. From the 65th floor, you can take an elevator to the 68th floor, where there is an outdoor skywalk observation deck without walls, offering a more expansive view. Here, you can take in the whole of Penang at a glance. The all-glass flooring also gives a feeling of being closer to nature.
There is also a scenic restaurant on the 68th floor where you can enjoy afternoon tea or dinner. Choose a window seat for a scenic view, and enjoy delicious food while admiring the unbeatable view, which is extremely pleasant.

komtar is the iconic building of Penang island. It is a little old but I remember its prime time during I was young. Areas around komtar is still busy.
Komtar is the tallest building in Georgetown and I think on the whole island of Penang, actually. You can see it from far away. It's a significant landmark, it's simply in Penang's DNA, it belongs there. In the recent years it became famous for 'The Top', an attraction where you can enjoy the great views of Penang from a skywalk. a great experience, I can tell you. But Komtar is much more than that. It's a residential building. And a shopping complex, or actually multiple Shopping Malls, such as Prangin Mall. Within Komtar you can find several Cinema's too.The recent years the complex is a bit downgraded due to bad maintenance. It's still nice, but not as it was before.
