It is called the Holy Mountain because it imitates the Mount Gogtha of Jerusalem. The Bible records the location of Jesus' crucifixion. There is a treaty-long 2 km long holy road and a long slope leading to the highest point of the small village of Mount Notre Dame (Santa Maria del Monte), and there are 14 small churches built on the holy road, from the bottom up. Each chapel presents the most important stories of Jesus' life with fine statues and murals, from birth, crucifixion to crucifixion and resurrection, through which the pilgrims evoke the experience of Jesus. The final and highest point of the Holy Road is the 15th Church of the Virgin Mary.
