Lankatilaka Viharaya

Lankatiraq Buddha Temple is a special attraction in the ancient city, very distinctive. The building is very majestic and tall. Although it is broken in Sri Lanka's attractions, it is absolutely magnificent and recommended!

The Temple of Lancatillaca Buddha is located in the northern district of the ancient city of Polonnaruvo, built during the reign of King Poromobo I, adjacent to the kiri vehara tower. The Buddha Temple is surrounded by two 17-meter-high walls. The distance between the walls is narrow and only ten meters wide. The dome of the roof of the main temple has collapsed and is open-air. Looking inside through the gap between the two walls, there is a height of 14 meters on the bottom wall of the hall at the entrance 52 meters deep. The statue of the headless Buddha in a standing state is unique in shape. The entrance to the Buddha is decorated in the same way as the round Buddha in the quadrangle courtyard. The exterior walls of the Buddha are decorated with reliefs. Opposite the Buddha is an elegant colonnade with a lion and dwarf pattern on its base.

Lankatilaka Temple, This is the tallest building in the ancient city of Polonnaruvo, with a huge ancient god statue placed on the surface. According to legend, the place was built by the king of Parakramabaho and was about five stories high. The brick building was a temple built during the reign of King Parakramabahu I (1153-1186). On both sides of the entrance, there are two polygonal architectural designs, which makes the temple more majestic. This is the innermost wall of the temple, although the huge Buddha statue is already mottled after the wind and rain, but it is still so tall, people are awestruck, and inexcusably praise the ancient Sri Lankan artisans of the superb architectural art.
