There was a monument in a corner of the parking lot of the Yoichi Town Fisheries Experiment Station. He was a novelist and was assigned to Yoichi, Hokkaido as a telegraph engineer who is a government post.
Koda Rohan lived in Tanaka Tennoji-cho, Shimoya-ku for about two years from 1897. From here, when I walked along Ginkgo Yokocho, I found the Tennoji five-storied pagoda.
There is a parking lot beyond the monument, but when I visited while it was snowing, it had a nice atmosphere with the black-like blue Sea of Japan in the background. I wonder if it's more beautiful in the evening.
The monument is quietly installed in a corner of the parking lot of the Fisheries Experiment Station. There is no administrative building, and you can freely enter and exit the parking lot, so you can feel free to visit it. There is a Sawamachi Post Office nearby, which was the place where Rohan Koda was assigned. But the life of an official probably didn't suit. Eventually, I will leave Yoichi and aim for the literary circles in Tokyo.
From the point where National Highway 229 and Road 々 228 intersect, heading to the coast, there is a monument of the Meiji literary master Koda Rotomo at a distance of the site of the Doryu Fisheries Experiment Station. In commemoration of the two years when Rotomo was assigned to Yoichi as a telegraph engineer, a phrase spelling the beginning of his handwriting "Rush Travel" is engraved. Rotomo suffered from suffering during work and had a hard time entering a writing life after he went to Tokyo, and while listening to the sound of the sea of Japan, he thought about the passion for the literature of young people on a young day ...
