Hello everyone! We have a new story from our travels! This time we ventured to the mysterious Yuhu Village and Longnv Lake, where the views were absolutely breathtaking, especially with the grandeur of Yalong Snow Mountain in full view from the side of Longnv Lake🏔️. During our journey, we came across many free-roaming herds of cows. You might not believe it, but we had a close “combat” encounter with one of them! Yes, it charged at us, putting both me and little Sienna in danger🐄😰. Fortunately, we reacted swiftly, successfully avoiding a “cow” to “cow” collision. It was indeed a heartbeat-accelerating moment, but it added even more excitement and unpredictability to our journey. Yuhu Village, also known as Xuesong Village, is little known to most travellers visiting Lijiang as most frequent the Dayan, Biasha and Shuhe ancient towns. Yuhu is on the footstep of the Yulong Snow Mountain. When visiting the area, ensure to get away from the main street. Walk all the way to the top and then up through the terraces to the rest point for hikers. Located approximately 15km out of the city, Yuhu is an unknown gem. The town has a history over 1000 years. Getting There - From Lijiang city there is public transport going directly to Yuhu village. However, it doesn’t come on a frequent basis so make sure to check the timetable with locals so that you don’t waste too much time waiting. Yuhu village is located in the north of Lijiang city right at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountains that’s why it’s got amazing views of the snow mountains and the wonderful local fields. Before going there I heard it’d be a great idea to camp out beside the lake near the village - the lake view is stunning with millions of stars at night on a clear day. I went for it without any hesitation. Even though the high winds at night almost blew my tent over, I enjoyed camping out on such an open land and being with the stars. A stone village filled with Naxi cultural features quietly stands at the foot of the snow mountain. After arriving here, my impression of it was completely overturned. As natives of Guangzhou, we spent nearly half of last year living in Lijiang. This place, where one can gaze upon snow-capped mountains when looking up and see wildflowers when looking down, I am pleased to call it my second home. Lijiang, a city that never ceases to surprise with each visit. As autumn arrives, Lijiang enjoys many clear and sunny days, offering a crisp view of the snow mountains. The gentle sunshine, accompanied by a refreshing breeze, marks the perfect season for a visit. Here are nine lesser-known scenic spots that I, as a semi-local, would like to share: p1-p2: 📍Wenhai, it evokes the feeling of Yili, Xinjiang. Herds of cattle graze freely on the lakeside meadows, with green mountains and snow peaks in the distance. It's like stepping into a painting. p3-p4: 📍Longnu Lake, located in Yuhu Village at the foot of the snow mountain. The Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is just in front, very close. The morning mist swirling around the mountain is ethereal, and the lake's reflection gives a mirror-like illusion of the sky. p5-p6: 📍Pearl Lake, an artificial lake located before entering the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain scenic area. Scattered throughout the region, it's a perfect spot for camping and picnicking, offering a feel of being right under the snow mountain. p7-p8: 📍Ganhaizi, a short 2-kilometer hike from the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain scenic area. It's a shallow blue lake formed by the melting snow from the mountains, incredibly dreamy. p9-p10: 📍Ganhe Dam, a cool place where the white mud looks like snow but isn't. Starting from Longnu Lake, it's a 12-kilometer hike to reach, and you can also visit Ganhaizi on the way. It's a free way to enter the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain scenic area by foot. p11-p12: 📍Sister Lakes, a lesser-known free scenic spot. The lake water is blue-green, clear enough to see the swaying water plants, reminiscent of a mini Jiuzhaigou. p13-p14: 📍Qingxi Reservoir, located in the ancient city area, very close to Lijiang Ancient City, perfect for leisurely strolls. p15-p16: 📍Foliday Snow Mountain Campsite, the green grass, blue sky, white clouds, and tents make for a comfortable setting. Just over ten kilometers north of Lijiang Ancient Town, on the southern slope of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, there is a village called 'Wulukun', meaning 'village at the foot of the snow mountain'. This is Yuhu Village. In 1922, Joseph Rock, as an explorer, writer, and photographer for the American 'National Geographic Magazine' and the Harvard University Arnold Arboretum, entered Yunnan, China from the Thai-Burmese border and settled down at the foot of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain for 27 years, most of which he spent in Yuhu Xueli Village. Yuhu is an artificial lake dug by the Mu family clan before the Ming Dynasty. The Mu family built a summer palace, the Jade Dragon Academy, and a deer farm by the lake. The earliest residents of Yuhu Village were those who served the Naxi king by guarding the palace and raising deer, hence the village was also called 'Cuan Kuo Luo'. Naxi folk songs often mention Yuhu and the snow mountain deer farm. In Yuhu, the snow water is clear, aquatic plants sway gently, and the grand Jade Dragon Snow Peak is reflected in the lake against the backdrop of blue sky and white clouds, as if nature itself has settled at the bottom of the lake. This 'Reflection of Yuhu' is one of the famous 'Twelve Scenic Spots of Jade Dragon'. It takes about half an hour to get there by taxi from Lijiang, costing over 50 yuan. Along the way, you can see a train, which the driver says starts from the Lijiang Tourist Distribution Center and ends at Ganhaizi of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. The whole line is 20.47 kilometers long, with five stations: Tourist Center Station, Baisha Ancient Town Station, Yushui Village Station, Dongba Valley Station, and Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Station. The ticket price is 70 yuan, which is more expensive than a ride-hailing service. If you drive yourself, you can stop by the roadside to take pictures of the snow mountain, which is very beautiful. When you get to Yuhu Village near Longnv Lake, it's too close for good photos. Once you reach the parking lot of Yuhu Village, you're stopped; local drivers say you used to be able to drive straight in, but now it's fenced off. There's no entrance fee, but you have to buy a round-trip ticket for the electric shuttle, which costs 30 yuan per person and cannot be purchased one-way, which feels a bit like forced buying and selling. Walking into the village is free, but it's over 2 kilometers to the village and very sunny. Taking the electric shuttle to the village, you have to walk an uphill stone path of over 400 meters to transfer to Longnv Lake. The road is rough, but you can take pictures along the way. Many villagers will ask if you want to ride a horse, and I heard the price is 168 yuan. I didn't want to ride, nor did I ask how long or where to ride. At the transfer point, it takes about 5 minutes by car to Longnv Lake, which is just a large lawn with the snow mountain as a backdrop. The lake is very small, and there's a concrete dam being built on the opposite shore, losing its original charm and resembling a reservoir. The wind is strong at the foot of the mountain, and hats can be blown away while taking photos. That's the visit!

In winter and spring, you can also see the magnificent reflection of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. 2️⃣Village roaming check-in at "Stone City" Yuhu Village is a thousand-year-old Naxi ancient village and also a place where the ancient Tea Horse Road passed through. The villagers built houses with glacial stones, and at first glance, it's all rugged and primitive. 3️⃣Sitting in a coffee shop watching the snow mountain There are many quiet and healing coffee shops in Yuhu Village. Lijiang, where all the ancient towns are bustling with crowds, and the streets are full of people taking photos and checking in. This spring break, I chose to bring my child to the Yuhu Village at the foot of the snowy mountain, to stay at the Villa's Yulu, a five-star homestay that truly lives up to its name! A life tip for those planning to travel to Yunnan during the New Year holidays: don't go to the crowded Jade Dragon Snow Mountain! Although Longnv Lake is an artificially constructed lake, the lake is blue, and there is a 'lonely tree' by the lake, intertwined with the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and the continuous forest grassland, like a scroll. There are local residents here who will ask if you want to ride a horse, 50-100/person, if you don't need it, just politely refuse. The grassland turns green in summer, and the scenery is better. In autumn and winter, the grassland is withered and yellow, and the wind is very strong by the lake, so be sure to bring a thick coat and hat! ✨Jade Pillar Propping up the Sky: This was once the summer palace of the Tusi in the past dynasties, and friends with plenty of time can come here for a visit. It takes ten minutes to walk from Yuhu Village, and the ticket is 25 yuan/person. The Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is reflected in the lake, and the fish swim in it. There are many Naxi pictographs preserved in the Dongba Academy, which is a good place to understand Naxi culture. Then climb up to the Xuesong Temple, look far away, and enjoy the endless scenery.
