Fiddle Hell UK: Newark 27-29 June 2025Fiddle Hell is back in the UK after an extended Covid break. From it's origins in Buxton in 2004 we are moving to Newark in support of the schools of musical instrument crafts that include woodwind, piano, guitar and the world-renowned Newark School of Violin Making. Whether you know it as a violin or a fiddle, if you are passionate about playing in any shape or form, there is a place for you at Fiddle Hell. This has always been a free self-organising event, we just want to use tickets to gauge numbers and keep in touch so that we can approach other venues as things pan out and use eventbrite to keep information up to date. What happens: Everything kicks off at the Fox & Crown in Appleton Gate near the violin school and the Governor's House on the market square is open through the weekend with a labyrinth of large 15th century rooms, and the Flying Circus is offering a big welcome too. If you are interested in any form of string playing, or accompanying instruments come along to play or just come to listen. Get in touch if there's something specific you want to bring to the event. About Newark Instrument Making: For over fifty years Newark has been the home of courses in violin making, woodwind and piano maintenance and repair and guitar making, but they are under threat which is why Fiddle Hell UK is convening here to give them support, and perhaps to find a permanent home. Almost every child that plays a musical instrument depends upon the skills of Newark alumni to make the instruments playable and keep them well-maintained and musicians up to the greatest artists, soloists, bands and orchestras need the assistance of makers and repairers before they even begin to play music: Luthiers are the unsung heroes of the muscial world. With problems plaguing these last remaining full-time courses in the UK, well reported in the press, we are here to give them support and to say #FHUKNewark. The June Festival returns this year to celebrate joyous and unforgettable moments. Many will remember this wonderful and important celebration of Brazilian culture in Berlin. Anyone who has been to Brazil in June will know that the people of Brazil celebrate throughout the month, and in some cities the festival is even bigger than Carnival. The June Festival (Festas Juninas) celebrates the harvest and honors Saints Anthony, John and Peter. The festival is held in typical Brazilian style, with rich traditional food, wine, music and a dramatic dance called the "Quadrilha" (a square dance). The festival is colorful. The party will be decorated with paper lanterns and flags. The men will dress up as farm boys and wear large straw hats. The women will wear red plaid clothes and decorate themselves with false teeth and freckles.

The Clown Festival in Lichtenrade is fun for all ages. Artists from different countries show how wonderful humour can be created without words – they use expressions, body language and a keen sense of the audience. There will be live music, hands-on activities, good food and an open and friendly atmosphere. Admission is free.

ATR Open Air brings the energy of outdoor Latin American dance music to Berlin. With live DJs, dance performances and food, the festival offers a varied program for a wide audience. For fans of cumbia, reggaeton and Latin American music, open to all ages.

Between 5 pm and midnight, some of Berlin's most prestigious research institutions open their doors to the public, offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the world of discovery and innovation. Yet the recent evolution of dance-friendly electronic music is very much a result of deep worldwide cultural changes which revolve around crucial aspects of the individual and shared identities as well as the (collective) emotional being. And then there is the command of the tech beat, with its repetitive and at times deliberately “shifting” effect on our minds. In fact, our modern Techno/Electro/House raves have probably evolved from those ancient rites in which music is intended to make you dance „for yourself“, for your spirit(s) and for your own beliefs. And, of course, for your own personal relationship with your whole body. In a ritualized setup, like in the traditional rites associated to ancient cults and cultures, dancing can be a healing tool when coupled with conscious cultural learning and mindful and/or flow-enhancing techniques. Here we propose a dance ritual in which the concepts of embodiment and flow would be applied to dances (and subcultures) associated to electronic music to awake and/or improve the individual mind-body connection as well as aiming at reaching relevant states of consciousness, eg. the so-called states of total flow and dance trance . Moreover, the dance rites would also include storytelling, items, and subjects with spiritual connotations. Our rites aim at improving the individual relationship with dance, movement, body awareness, spirituality (religion-independent) and are therefore equally suitable for those who have never felt comfortable when dancing and those who may well be experienced dancers but lack confidence or the ability to fully lose themselves in it to some degree. On top of that the rites are an opportunity to connect to others through dance in a more embodied and spiritual way than just clubs, parties, festivities, and many other types of dance gatherings. Blended in the sessions without a particular sequence, we will embodiment-aware dance the following dance/music styles: House (Classical, Acid, Italian, Afro, tech, deep), Techno (old-school, current, psy, ethereal, space), Minimal, some Ambient, Industrial, some Drum&Bass, some Ethno(Techno), Trance, diverse meditative and ritual(ish) electronic music. Level and audience: Level-independent, it is all about the ritual and the potential healing that we all need. This is a racism/sexism/queerphobia-conscious event and as such ethnic and gender/sexuality minority people are explicitly invited and welcome. This is NOT an event to get to know me personally, flirt with me, or push any of your agendas. Please, be mindful! Frequency: Once a month. Dichtersfestival Holst op ‘t Hof is dé avond voor liefhebbers van literatuur, kunst en cultuur. Bij Het Hof laten gerenommeerde dichters hun stemmen klinken, omlijst door live muziek en de sfeer van een historische plek. Geniet van voordrachten door onder anderen Adriaan van Dis, Maria Barnas en Ester Naomi Perquin. De voordrachten wordt omlijst met livemuziek en verfraaid door de prachtige locatie en de culinaire kunsten van Het Hof.
