Alternatively, there are sketchbooks available to purchase in the gallery store and paper will be provided as part of the class. Observing The Seasons will occur once every 3 months. We hope that the sessions become a great way to asses development and pier review. If you would like to book onto all 4 sessions we have a discounted ticket available to purchase also advertives on our Eventbrite. Artist bio: Amy McGurk is a Leeds based travel and nature illustrator documenting her travels throughout her detailed and colourful sketchbooks. Painting while travelling, using watercolour and mixed media, she creates lasting impressions of the places she visits. With a particular focus on the nuances of local wildlife and nature, she uses reference photographs from her hikes through unfamiliar landscapes. As well as being inspired by nature, she also aims to capture and illustrate an array of cultural experiences and landscapes. Whilst travelling (or in Leeds!), she often has limited time at each stop and only a small amount of art supplies. By limiting the amount of time, the materials, and stepping out of her comfort zone, she can create some interesting textures, marks, and composition ideas that reflect the uniqueness of each place. These scribbly, messy, imperfect pages become beautiful memories or can be developed into finished paintings when she returns home. Amy has taught workshops and classes across Leeds and online and is an exhibiting artist. When attending a workshop you can receive 10% off within the Gallery Shop on the day of your session. About the venue Sunny Bank Mills is an inspirational cultural destination in the heart of the local community of Farsley, Leeds. Founded in 1829, these glorious Mills are being regenerated by the sixth generation of the family owners, creating a wonderful blend of work, leisure and culture. The History of Witchcraft and Feminism | The Wardrobe

May 14, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Leeds
Cultural Experiences
The image of the witch is often portrayed as a female figure, closely tied to the perception of  witchcraft as a female crime. Throughout centuries of European witchcraft history, women were the main targets of accusations, trials, and executions, reinforcing the connections between witchcraft and societal expectations of women.  When examined through a feminist lens, the history of witchcraft reveals how patriarchal structures have weaponised the fear of witchcraft to control and oppress women. Many feminist scholars argue that the persecution of witches served as a means to enforce gender roles, limit female autonomy, and maintain male dominance. But was this truly the case? This talk will look at the real-life stories of individuals tried by the Roman Inquisition during the early modern period, exploring the lives, beliefs, and magical practices of both women and men accused of witchcraft by their communities. We will ultimately challenge the idea that witchcraft was solely a female crime.  Doors open at 7pm , talk starts at 7:30pm - come down early to grab a good seat! Follow us on IG @seedtalks Speaker Bio Dr Debora Moretti is a historian and archaeologist, and is currently a researcher at the University of Hertfordshire and the Centre for Renaissance and Early Modern Studies (CREMS) at the University of York. After a career in both academic and commercial archaeology, focusing on the material evidence of magic and witchcraft in archaeological contexts, Debora completed her PhD in History at the University of Bristol (UK). Her research, which formed part of the Leverhulme Trust-funded project "The Figure of the Witch," supervised by Professor Ronald Hutton, was dedicated to the image of witches and witchcraft in late medieval and early modern Italy.  Testimonials from our guests ⭐ Truly riveting talks, always enjoy these - a great way to spend an evening with some pals. Already looking forward to the next one. - Alexander P   ⭐ Expertly run, talks are always super informative and a lot of fun! Couldn’t recommend these enough! 5 star. - Owen S ⭐ Been to a few talks and all have been super interesting. An enjoyable evening to go to either alone or with friends. The talks make for stimulating conversation. Highly recommend! - Daisy J   Information Source: Seed Talks | eventbrite

Then we will select areas of print to enhance with watercolour paint, embroidery, and embellishments. The methods selected will be tailored to your prints, and guidance will be given as to how to enhance your work, or you will have free rein to be as creative as you like. We will also discuss uses for your panels, and how to take them into a project following this workshop. Artist bio: Rebekah Johnston is a Nottingham-based textile artist and educator, creating one-of-a-kind quilted textiles that explore themes of emotional well-being. Each piece is slow-stitched by hand, a calming and meditative process that brings a sense of reflection and connection. Passionate about helping others discover their creative voice, Rebekah empowers people to develop confidence in their own visual language. As a former art teacher, she brings years of experience in guiding artistic journeys. Her work intertwines self-discovery, sustainability, and the meditative practice of hand stitching. Through slow, deliberate stitching, she finds space for introspection, allowing thoughts to settle and take shape. Inspired by discarded scraps and garment offcuts, she transforms overlooked materials into quilts and wall hangings. By thoughtfully piecing together unconventional shapes, she creates compositions that balance positive and negative space, revealing hidden narratives within each arrangement. Beyond her own practice, Rebekah teaches the art of slow stitching through in-person workshops. She encourages participants to embrace slowness, appreciate the beauty of repurposed materials, and foster a mindful connection between their hands, mind, and creative spirit. These workshops offer a space to pause, reflect, and immerse in the joy of making. With a brand new workshop (motivational AND practical) to set the tone at each event, a huge focus on mindset and business strategy (hello my favourite topics!), a beautifully catered lunch and structured networking, it’s time to get out there in person, change your mindset and truly grow your business. This isn't stuffy networking. It isn't naff coffee and flat conversations. This event is about growth: personal and business growth. And you can feel that energy the second you walk in the door. As an online business coach, I've scaled three companies in three different sectors, billing seven figures in personal sales. I am now on a mission to show good-hearted people how to properly position, market and sell their incredible offers to do the same. The things is, we need a few things to pull that off: the right growth mindset, the right scaling strategy, a sense of belief and support, and a willingness to get out there and market and sell our services. This is what I'm all about. In fact, I LOVE this stuff and have dedicated my life to showing good-hearted people how to do this properly, challenging you to step into you full purpose, finding and removing the subconscious blocks that hold you back, and supporting and celebrating your attempts, wins and fails along the way. As I always say to my clients: To succeed more, you're going to fail more. So let's go fail our way to the top! - "If you haven't been before, you simply must go or if you have been, get the next event in your diary now.
