Derek Warfield & the Young Wolfe Tones Concert at Trad Fest West | United Irish Cultural Center
Jun 13, 2025 (UTC-7)ENDED
San Francisco
The Young Wolfe Tones return to the UICC stage as part of our Trad Fest West weekend of music and Irish arts—and both the band and the UICC are marking 50 years!
A special group of Irish men and women have been responsible for preservation of the tradition of Irish ballad singing over the past 50 years. Derek Warfield is a distinguished name among them. Derek Warfield and They Young Wolfe Tones are bringing that musical tradition forward with a reverence for Ireland’s past and the energy and optimism of a new generation of Irish musicians.
Derek Warfield & The Young Wolfe Tones are thrilled to be celebrating 14 years On the One Road and are delighted to be celebrating it in style with the release of a new CD/Vinyl “Let The Free Birds Fly” released in June 2022, and performances all over America including some great Irish American Festivals & Venues.
Please check

“We’re presenting an old tradition in a new package – and I’ve the same passion for it now as I had when it all started 50 years ago!”
Derek Warfield & The Young Wolfe Tones (One of the headlining acts of Milwaukee Irish Festival 2018 (The biggest Irish Festival in the world)
Derek Warfield (New York Society Dublin Man of The Year 2013) and (The AOH Spirit Of Freedom Award 2017)
Derek Warfield & The Young Wolfe Tones (Official performers for ‘2015 The Friends Of Ireland Speaker John Beohner St Patrick’s Day Luncheon in Capitol Hill) for President Obama, Vice President Biden, Taoiseach Enda Kenny & many other distinguished friends of Irish America.
2016 Was a pinnacle for Derek and The Young Wolfe Tones was when they were chosen to perform on the 24th April at the 1916 centenary commemorations at the General Post Office in O’Connell Street Dublin at 12 o’clock noon. This was the exact same time the Irish proclamation was read by Padraig Pearse one hundred years ago to the minute. As Derek is quoted as saying “of all the honors bestowed on the Wolfe Tones old and young this privilege was the most significant. It was an honor to perform the music and songs of remembrance and the patriotic ballads that were sung by the volunteers inside the building during the struggle for our freedom, and we performed them with the same passion and emotion. “The Foggy Dew”, “Wrap the Green Flag Round me” “The Soldiers Song” were some of the chorus’s that rang out along the main thoroughfare to the 30,000 people assembled.
Derek Warfield & The Young Wolfe Tones produced a powerful 20 track CD commemorative 1916 CD titled “The Call of Erin” that embraces the heritage of popular ballads that remember our hero’s and patriots in poem, song and music.
After spending nearly 40 years as founder, leader and front man of the legendary Wolfe Tones (named after the 18th century Irish Revolutionary Theobald Wolfe Tone), Derek Warfield is revered as a singer, songwriter, historian and entertainer in all parts of the world where Irish roots have been put down. The Wolfe Tones enjoyed phenomenal success with 13 best-selling albums, 3 number one hits, many television appearances and shows in esteemed venues such as New York’s Carnegie Hall and The Royal Albert Hall in London.
Derek has been proudly presented with the keys to San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles for his contributions to Irish Song & Music over the years and was honored as “Dublin Gael of The Year 2013” by the New York Dublin Society.
Since breaking away from the Wolfe Tones in 2001, Derek’s solo career has yielded 12 albums to date, the most successful of them being “A Nation once again” “On the One Road”, “God save Ireland” “Sons of Erin” ‘The Bonnie Blue Flag” “Washington’s Irish” “Let Ye All be Irish Tonight”, “Call of Erin” and “Let the Free Birds Fly”. With the formation and ongoing success of The Young Wolfe Tones, the legend of Derek Warfield continues.
LEGACY – THE YOUNG WOLFE TONES
In 2001, after nearly 40 years performing, the legendary Wolfe Tones parted with their founder and leader – Derek Warfield. No other Irish folk group, before or since, told the story of Ireland so completely and unapologetically. But for Derek’s hunger and desire to continue to further the story of Ireland through song, an ancient tradition might have lost perhaps its most iconic figure. In 2008 Derek put together a band containing some of the finest musicians and singers in Irish music – The Young Wolfe Tones.

Jun 21, 2025 (UTC-7)ENDED
San Francisco
Date Change
Due to unique circumstances, the date of this Cuddle Party moved to June 21st. The date was previously June 7th.
Here's some information on what Cuddle Parties are:
What is a Cuddle Party?
Cuddle Party is a 3-4 hours workshop experience where participants engage in communication exercises, explore touch in a non-sexual space, experience personal exploration and intimacy, and have fun with like minded people.
What do we do at a Cuddle Party?
We do two main things at Cuddle Parties: 1. Enjoy each other's touch. You can come and enjoy giving and receiving caring touch from other people who want to give and receive it. 2. Practice Consent. A major part of Cuddle Parties is learning how to ask for what you want and how to answer requests. Worried? Confused? Don't fret - we will teach, guide and help you practice how to do it.
Why is Cuddling important?
Nurturing and consensual loving touch is good for maintaining a healthy life, a strong nervous system and a balanced emotional state for people of all walks of life. One’s ability to connect with and develop greater trust in others is emphasized during the group exchanges during Cuddle Parties. Self-care is a cornerstone of the Cuddle Party experience.
Is this SEX?!
Great question! No. This is a non-sexual event. You have the option of experiencing touch and maybe intimacy if you'd like to - but we steer away from sexual behavior. If you are looking for something sexy, we're all for it! :) just not in this event.
You can find more info about Cuddle Parties after the logistical information below.

SOME MORE INFO ABOUT CUDDLE PARTIES:
The Live Greater Series
:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-WwqwyGUlk
Cuddle Party is a formal, non-sexual event that offers participants an opportunity to explore intimacy with like-minded others, in a relaxed environment, that upholds personal boundaries and maintains a professional atmosphere, at all times. People are encouraged to engage in communication and touch, in a non-threatening, share-affirming environment. Cuddle Party is a holistic, social environment, that attracts fascinating people from all walks of life. It provides a special and unique opportunity for connection, learning and growth.
Cuddle Party experiences teach participants that they alone (with the staff's assistance) create their own safety container. How does it change people's lives? Many of us have a hard time saying NO to requests, and saying no might make us feel afraid that we will hurt the other person. Very rarely do we get a chance to practice saying NO, or practice getting a NO in a safe and nurturing environment.
But it's not all about the NO, it's also about the YES! We practice saying YES to one another, and asking for what we want, and changing our minds - all very important skills that we don't put an emphasis on in our everyday lives. It's transformative for people!

**Q: What if I don’t get a match?**
A: We aim to maintain a 50/50 male to female ratio but cannot guarantee that all attendees will show up, as life happens. If there is an uneven split, some matches will be paired platonically. But we hope you might make new friends.
**Q: How many interactions can I expect??**
A: Maximize your chances of connection! We highly encourage you to mingle with fellow participants before and after the structured activities. During the event, you'll first connect with others in a small group based on your shared interests, followed by personalized one-on-one connections.

ROBERT P. BAIRD at Books Inc. in the Marina | Books Inc.
Jun 23, 2025 (UTC-8)ENDED
San Francisco
Join us at Books Inc. in the Marina in welcoming debut author Robert P. Baird to the shop for a celebration of his new novel The Nimbus! Robert will be in conversation with The Language of Flowers author Vanessa Diffenbaugh! An exhilarating debut novel about a child whose literal enlightenment sets the stage for an exuberant tragicomedy of marriage, religion, and parenthood. On an otherwise ordinary fall day on a university campus in Chicago, the toddler son of an ambitious divinity school professor named Adrian Bennett mysteriously starts to glow. The nimbus, as the strange, soft light comes to be known, offers no clues to its origin and frustrates every attempt at rational explanation.
Though the nimbus appears only intermittently, and not to everyone, the otherworldly glow quickly upends the lives of all those who encounter it, including Paul Harkin, Adrian’s broke and feckless graduate student, who likes being a graduate student a little too much for his own good; Renata Bennett, Adrian’s omnicompetent wife, who can’t see her son glowing even though the nimbus is turning her life upside down; and Warren Kayita, a down-on-his-luck librarian and aging div school alumnus on the run from a violent criminal. As news about the nimbus spreads around the university and beyond, Adrian, Paul, Renata, and Warren are set on a collision course that will threaten their lives and put their deepest convictions to the test.
At once a rollicking intellectual satire, a searing portrait of a family in crisis, and a thrilling metaphysical page-turner, The Nimbus offers a comic and profound examination of the persistence of spiritual belief in a secular age and humanity’s timeless search for meaning. Robert P. Baird holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago Divinity School, and has worked as an editor at The New Yorker, Harper’s Magazine, The Paris Review, Esquire, and Chicago Review. He has written for all those publications, as well as for The New York Times, The London Review of Books, The Guardian, and Poetry, among others. His work can be found at www.robertpbaird.com. Vanessa Diffenbaughis the author of the New York Times bestselling novel The Language of Flowers, which was translated into more than forty languages. A mother of four, she lives with her husband in Monterey, California. In addition to being a writer, Vanessa Diffenbaugh is a passionate foster care advocate and sits on the board of Youth Villages, where she supports their mission to radically improve outcomes for America’s most vulnerable children and families.

STUDIO CERAMICA
is The Richmond District's first community pottery studio and is operated and owned by a female, San Franciscan/ Mexican artist. Mel Rice opened STUDIO CERAMICA in 2016 with her blood, sweat, smiles, and tears. Mel trained and worked in ceramics at San Francisco City College - Fort Mason Campus for over 8 years. Her studio is a child of The Mason Pottery Campus. This studio is run with the same foundation Mel was given at SF City College. STUDIO CERAMICA is located in the heart of SF's "Little Russia" on Geary Boulevard between 25th Ave. & 26th Ave. Learn the craft of making functional pottery pieces for the home. We offer Pottery Throwing Classes & Basic Hand-Building Courses given by Mel, Vincent, Tiffany, and Jay.
Learn how to throw clay on a pottery wheel just like Patrick Swayze & Demi Moore in the movie Ghost! Join a great community of creative people in one of our packages made for beginners or intermediate throwers. Each student will receive 20 pounds of clay, food-safe glazes and slips, and all firings are included. Mel does not put a limit on how much a student can make in these classes, so the sky's the limit on making pots. Everyone will be given one extra class a week to come in and practice and receive guidance from the community. Students can purchase more clay at the studio from our selection of 12 different clay bodies. All of our glazes, slips, and engobes used are made the old school way from scratch in our chemical lab set up in the downstairs of the studio. We have a full clay recycling system in place at STUDIO CERAMICA and we pug and recycle all our clay. It is madness, but we do it! More experienced potters can flow at their own pace and Mel can help any student beginner, intermediate, or advanced by hopping on other classes happening at the studio. Mel, Jay, and Vincent will be giving the classes together. Each instructor has a unique style and passion for clay and spreading knowledge. Students can flow at their own pace. These classes are great for beginners or pros. Instructors will be able to help any thrower at any level. Even those who have never touched clay. All are welcome. Also,
students will be able to MAKE-UP instructional classes if MISSED!
Students can make up classes during their package or are able to make up missed classes up to two weeks after the last day of class. Once students have taken a Package, membership is offered. Hope to meet you soon! Please email me with any questions. melriceceramica@gmail.com

We think the best relationships are forged when we are comfortable, relaxed and free of pressure. Preferring instead to think of the evening as a casual night out where one can truly be themselves. We do not use traditional 'speed dating' offerings such as bells, whistles and name-tags. Instead we focus on creating an atmosphere conducive to meeting others; a great venue, a personable host and a staff to assist.
Upon registration, you'll be sent an email inviting you to login to your mobile ‘Smart-Card’. As the event begins, log-in to your scorecard and let the flirting begin. You'll be able to choose whom you wish to meet again, to what degree you like them and have until midnight to submit your final selections for matching. Once the clock strikes midnight - return to our platform to see your matches. You can also access your profile via mobile, tablet or PC. Our platform isn't an app so it requires absolutely no downloading and can be accessed directly from our website, anytime.
Should you have any questions - feel free to ask away. Take the time before the event starts to settle in - have a beverage if you would like and mingle should you wish. Chat up our Hosts for tips or simply to ask, which direction the bar is in! After being shown to your table, the ladies will remain seated for the duration of the event. The gents move from lovely lady to lovely lady every six to seven minutes. Your mobile scorecard gives you the ability to see all the participants attending your event, upload your picture, make your selections and be notified of your matches all from your phone.
Don't fret about figuring out if the person is the one or the perfect person for you. Consider it the date before the date. If you choose someone and they chose you - it's a match. You will be given each others first name and email address. The rest is up to you.

Climate Grief, Anxiety, and Hope Ritual | The Center SF
Jun 7, 2025 (UTC-7)ENDED
San Francisco
With the accelerated pace of the climate crisis, ecological collapse, and political and economic turmoil, how do we practice staying active and awake? Join us for a focused exploration of these questions in this wild collective moment.
*
Facilitators Joanna Calabrese and Emily Fasten will guide a ritual called the Truth Mandala, a proven practice created by Buddhist Ecologist and Activist Joanna Macy.
*
Over the course of this three-hour ritual we’ll create a space for intentionally facing our sorrows for the earth. We will confront and honor our denial, rage, anger, fear, grief, and despair for the planet, with the goal of finding renewed energy for continued action.
*
This ritual helps us feel more free, more integrated, and more able to continue to work toward meaningful change, all while cultivating connection and community with like-hearted people.
*
We are glad to offer a respite from the constant and very important “doing” of everyday life to come into “being” with grief, complexity, and emotional charge.
*
This experience is a good fit for anyone experiencing anxiety, depression, overwhelm, confusion, or even just curiosity around how to engage with the climate emergency and the interconnected global emergencies of this moment.
*
The Center SF offers us a welcoming and supremely comfortable venue for this vital work. Join us!
*
About the Facilitators
*
Joanna and Emily are two therapist colleagues and friends who believe that rituals are a critical climate solution. Adapting our psyches to climate change is as important as adapting the land with stronger sea walls and power-grids. Emotional resilience is needed to steward our human energy and creative capacities NOW when they are most needed. They are dedicated to raising awareness about the psychological and emotional impacts of climate change.
*
Joanna Calabrese (she/her)is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist based in Northern California. A former political advocate turned therapist, she spent nearly two decades lobbying for climate and sustainability policies on Capitol Hill, at universities, and for grassroots nonprofits. Today she runs a private therapy practice and offers groups and gatherings focused on cultivating emotional and psychological resilience in the midst of the climate crisis. She draws from her training in eco therapy, Joanna Macy’s Work that Reconnects, Francis Weller’s Sacred Grief Work, and experience participating in rites of passage work in hosting this ritual.

*
Emily Fasten (she/her) is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in private practice therapist based in San Francisco. Drawing from integral psychology, gestalt therapy, existential-humanism, yoga philosophy and practice, and attachment theory, she supports clients and groups toward addressing the most wicked challenges of our time, including the climate crisis. Along with nearly 15 years of clinical experience, Emily has completed the California Institute of Integral Studies’ Climate Psychology Certificate.
