I started teaching watercolours in March 2023 which is exciting because its been more than a year now! Multiple times week I run beginner watercolour classes where each session we have a different theme, generally to do with nature. This year I'm looking forward to running day courses, or some courses that span over a few weeks where we can get really stuck in to a particular subject. My background is in illustration which I studied in Bristol from 2016 - 2019. I have previously worked in a bit of editorial illustration under the name 'Zara Wilkins'. The thing I love most about watercolours is that it is so versatile. There are so many different ways it can be used, so many effects that you can create with different levels of water, pigment, paper weights and brushes. There doesn't really seem to be an end to what you can do with it. Teaching continues to be such a fun experience and I really look forward to every class I run. This enlightening illustrated discussion follows the remarkable journey of Hockney's life, from his humble beginnings in Bradford to his early breakthrough as an artist. Delve into his vibrant and sun-soaked period in Los Angeles, and witness his triumphant return to the United Kingdom. This delightful book beautifully traces the captivating life and times of one of the most beloved artists in the world. Drawing inspiration from Hockney's powerful message that "spring cannot be cancelled," Simon immersed himself in Hockney's art, even learning to paint on an iPad as a tribute to Hockney's own iconic iPad drawings. Simon embarked on a colorful and joyous journey to create this biography with a twist. Simon Elliott, a criminal barrister, art enthusiast, and stand-up comedian, was granted the privilege of using and adapting Hockney's artwork with the artist's blessing. Rather than simply copying Hockney's work, Simon aimed to depict its essence and convey the underlying ideas in an informative and amusing manner. Hockney's life has been filled with excitement and laughter, and Simon sought to reflect that spirit in this masterpiece. Simon's work is a tribute to Hockney's uplifting message during the lockdown that resonated deeply with him. This graphic life story also highlights the joy, significance, and mindfulness benefits of creating art. In the spirit of inclusivity, all our events, including this one, are free.
