The room I stayed in was much better than what the picture shows and there was curtains for each tenant to ensure privacy. But when I came the next day preparing to book another night, the guy at the reception told me he couldn't book it for me and that he was working for another company and simply handing the check-in stuffs. And then later he told me he could book somehow by logging in someone else's account. It was around midnight and he told me check-in was only possible before midnight which was just a few minutes away. But the price was like double what it was on ctrip and I started to give a second thought on whether I should book it. Then this security guy came and you guys should really give him a raise for doing his job, though somehow harshly. I was just sitting in the lobby for like two minutes trying to book online since it was much cheaper when this mexican-looking security guy came and said the sitting area was exclusive for guests. I was like ok, but I am trying to book online. He said I had to book through them now, not online. He was right in sticking with the rules but so cruel in just sticking to the rules and putting people in a dilemma. I am not even angry with this guy and it was less surprise for me that he should speak in such a tone as if saying "not welcome" ,since he is clearly mexican or arabic looking and I've met these people behaving in the exact same unfriendly and nonchalant way. White people would put on a smile whether it's fake or not. Black people would just make no sense and act crazily. Not even surprised when stereotypes occur in reality during my trip.
Review of Our Stay at a Hotel in Amsterdam
We recently stayed at a hotel in Amsterdam and had a mix of positive and negative experiences. First, let's start with the positives:
What We Liked:
The premises were quite nice. There's a bar downstairs, which is a great spot to unwind. Additionally, there are a few supermarkets and a traditional Dutch bakery right across the street, which made grabbing snacks and breakfast super convenient. The location is fantastic—just an 8-minute walk to the train station and a 4-minute walk to the bus and tram stops, making it easy to get around the city.
The room was just as shown in the pictures. The mattress was comfortable, and there was ample space to organize our belongings during our stay. The receptionists were really kind and welcoming, which made our check-in and stay more pleasant. We also enjoyed the style of the hotel, especially the lovely lobby with two pianos, a comfortable sofa, and some books and local information to relax and read.
What We Didn't Like:
While we had read other reviews about noise issues and poor sound isolation, we thought we'd be okay with it, considering our home is located in a town center near nightclubs. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. The noise wasn't from people talking but from doors slamming. From 11 pm until 3 am, there was a constant door slamming that made the floor and walls in our room vibrate every two to three minutes. It felt like we were next to a staff room or had a very active neighbor. To be able to sleep, we had to watch a movie until the slamming finally stopped. This constant noise didn't allow us to rest properly, and we woke up later than we wanted the next day. The slamming continued on the following day, so we decided to stay out as late as possible to avoid it. Fortunately, around 2 am, the noise decreased, and we managed to sleep.
Additionally, there was a funny smell in the corridors and the toilet. I found it unpleasant, but my husband wasn't bothered by it. If you are sensitive to smells, this might be something to consider. However, if you're not particularly sensitive, like my husband, it might not be an issue.
Conclusion:
Overall, while the hotel's location, amenities, and staff were great, the noise from door slamming and the smell in the corridors were significant drawbacks for us. If these issues could be addressed, it would make for a much more pleasant stay.
The room is very clean. The hotel is in a good location, just next to the AMSTEL station, a 5-minute walk away. Many students live here and the atmosphere is relaxed. The breakfast and snacks are good. A very cost-effective choice.
Breakfast is 20 Euros, which is not bad. It is a good breakfast in the Netherlands, a typical Western breakfast. The location is just beside the subway, which is very convenient to go everywhere. The room has no toiletries, no kettle, and no slippers. So I think the price/performance ratio is average, that is, the hotel has a rooftop and various activities, and the price is high
