Beach Hotels in Funchal

We really enjoyed our stay at Baia Azul. This hotel has everything! Gorgeous views from the lounge area, a lovely bar with entertainment at night, excellent service, lovely comfortable rooms, and a very nice pool area. We cannot fault it! The breakfast was also lovely. Would definitely stay here again!

The staff is friendly, the room is a good size and everything was clean. The room has a mini fridge, slippers and robes. They also provide pool towels. There is a cleaning service everyday and they change all the towels, including the ones for the pool. The bed was not the best as it was quite hard and had a spring mattress. We enjoyed the indoor pool, the jacuzzi and sauna. We haven't tried the outdoor pool as we only spent time there in the evenings. The breakfast was good. I'd come back as it was a nice experience overall.

The front desk and restaurant staff were very professional and polite, especially the female employee who helped us check in. She carefully explained the hotel facilities and local tours, and was very attentive and worthy of praise.

Since it was all-inclusive, I was able to eat and drink at some restaurant. The recommended restaurant is an Italian cafe called VELA DI CANALE. The pizza of heat 々 is also all-you-can-eat, and if the timing is right, the original will be baked with your favorite toppings. The pool was also wide 々 and I was able to spend a relaxing time. I want to stay again.

A experiência no Pestana Ocean Bay foi bastante agradável, os colaboradores foram sempre muito simpáticos e atenciosos, ajudaram sempre que foi necessário, têm sem dúvida uma equipa preocupada com o hóspede, atenta, empática, senti-me muito bem recebida… num questionário que respondi a meio da estadia, mencionei que nos buffets poderia haver uvas (isto porque a minha filha gosta muito, e as uvas eram uma fruta que ainda não tinha surgido), fiz essa observação pensando que nem ia ser lida, no entanto, no dia seguinte ao chegar ao quarto tínhamos um belo prato de uvas, nesse momento, sentimo-nos acarinhadas como se estivéssemos em casa, foi um gesto de cuidado que nos deixou sensibilizadas, estão de parabéns por isso e por, efetivamente, lerem os questionários, que muitas vezes achamos que ninguém vai ler e importarem-se com o que lá se escreve. Têm uma boa organização, apresentação e logística de tudo o que envolve uma estadia: refeições, animação ao fim do dia, saídas/passeios, etc. Continuação de um trabalho de excelência ☺️ obrigada.

My stay at this hotel was truly exceptional. The lady at reception was very helpful, easy to talk to, and explained everything clearly from the moment I arrived. The room was amazing, with a beautiful view that made the experience even more special. All the staff were excellent and friendly. The two girls working at the bar in the afternoon were wonderful — unfortunately I forgot their names, but one of them was Venezuelan. They were both very welcoming and professional. The breakfast team was always respectful and ready to help. One lovely lady was so thoughtful that she prepared my outdoor table setup in the morning before I had even picked my food. The gentleman who seemed to be the manager handled the staff and operations very smoothly — you could really feel how organized and professional everything was. I also noticed the lady who I believe is the GM. She looked incredibly hardworking, present during the afternoon, evening, and morning, always supporting her team. I even saw her celebrating staff birthdays with them. This is exactly how true leadership should be. Anyone looking for real hospitality should visit this hotel. Madeira is a popular tourist destination, so accommodations are generally expensive. This hotel's advantage lies in its excellent location in Funchal's hotel district, opposite a large shopping mall with a large supermarket. The hotel has its own free parking, swimming pool, and tennis court. The room was only so-so, the facilities were rather old, but the sea view somewhat made up for it. Perhaps because it's a popular tourist destination, the smiles of the receptionists seemed a bit forced. Although the room had a kitchen, there were no condiments. However, one long-haired lady on the evening shift was very kind and patiently recommended restaurants, writing down the names of nearby eateries for me. The Madeira Islands are indeed a popular tourist destination, so accommodation is generally not cheap. This hotel has the advantage of a good location, situated in the hotel area of ​​Funchal, with a large shopping mall right across the street, and there is also a large supermarket inside. The hotel has its own free parking lot, swimming pool, and tennis court. The rooms are just average, with relatively outdated facilities. The sea view does somewhat make up for the shortcomings. Perhaps because it is a popular tourist destination, the smiling faces of the receptionists always seemed a bit fake. The rooms have a kitchen but no spices. However, there was one long-haired lady working the night shift who was very nice. When recommending restaurants to me, she was very patient and wrote down the names of nearby restaurants for me one by one.

The dining room -I was there for the breakfast- is an old one, not so inviting. The breakfast-selection is not so good, as a vegan or vegetarian you can't choose much (only beans & bread), the coffee is okay but not tasty, the juices are not fresh & sugary. There is no big pot for cooking, for two persons it would be good to have one. The bed is good, the fan does its job, the bathroom is big enough, the balcony practical. The location is near to the busline, 30min to walk to the center & there is the Lido promenade (with some places to swim) to the next small city with a small light tunnel for pedestrians, there you can hear/see the surf :) The opening times for the pool are too late in the morning and too short (8.00-20.00). The female staff at the reception with the glasses (saturday evening), didn't manage my wake-up-call for the next morning (the staff at this day showed me that he had no notice for a call), thats not a good one, because sometimes you have to depend on it.

Cleaned every day, good breakfast, great location (hotels part of Funchal, but also walkable to centre), lots of restaurants and shops around, bus stop right outside, pleasant and helpful staff, well maintained pool, pool towels provided. Only con - old hairdryer, so it gets very hot and smells burnt. Also no iron.

We booked a triple room 3 beds last min with late bird price. However they gave us double room 2 beds. It's on the 1st floor just next to tennis court which is quite noisy. It's 31 degree F, no air conditioner. Only 1 tiny window can be opened for fresh air but its facing a foot path with many guests access to the indoor pool, gym...etc. Not enough privacy. Location is ok as many small supermarkets, restaurants and bus stops near by within walking distance. Hotel facilities are good for the price.
