3.9/5
Here’s the updated review including the minor drawback: --- I had a wonderful stay at Zarco B&B. The place is clean, safe, and very centrally located, making it easy to explore the area. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready to help. The breakfast was extensive and delicious, offering a great start to the day. I was especially surprised and delighted when they prepared a takeaway breakfast for my early flight—such thoughtful service! The only downside is the stairs, which can be challenging if you have heavy luggage. However, this minor inconvenience doesn’t take away from the overall great experience. I would definitely recommend Zarco B&B to anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient stay. Lisa
GGuest UserAdvised as “2 x double beds and a single. Rainwater shower head. 24 hour reception.” This is not what I received. Dated room, with 3 x single beds. No air conditioner. I arrived at 10am with bags and was ringing the door bell for over 20minutes. Luckily another resident exited the building and I was able to access the building. I climbed the stairs to reception on the 2nd floor, and everything was locked up. Finally a cleaning lady arrived, and she called the owners, who wouldn’t arrive instead until much later in the day. She did allow me to leave my bags in the office. The cleaning lady gave me a pin To use at the door. When I arrived back at 2pm, I was checked in by 2 x unfriendly gentleman. There wasn’t any other room they could give me- even though it wasn’t what I had booked. I asked for a fan, which also was not provided. It was 35 degrees, the room was hot. After 4pm, there was no receptionist or any other staff onsite. No one to help with with questions you had. Don’t stay here. I have stayed in better hostels than this place. It’s overpriced and super old.
We stayed at this hotel twice and have booked it again. It’s a budget-friendly place in the very centre of Funchal. It has everything we need really - the rooms are spacious, there’s always hot water in the shower, the rooms are cleaned every day. Faultless, fast WiFi (crucial if you are working remotely or travelling with a teen). Massive kudos to the amazing staff - they are very friendly and courteous. The location is perfect for sightseeing in Funchal or getting to other places in Madeira.
We stayed there only for two nights as have been exploring the North of the Island this time. The room was small, but comfortable and clean. The hotel is centrally located, within the walk-in distance to the beach, the old town, supermarkets and bus stops - very convenient. There’s a cool roof terrace with a view across the charming streets of Funchal. But the real asset of this place is the staff - so friendly, helpful, chatty - thank you, all, for your hospitality and a warm welcome.
