"We had a super sea view room - no 18. It was spotless clean and had a beautiful view of Criccieth bay. It was great to see the update as I last stayed here in the 1950/60s !! The hotel would benefit from a better entrance. The staff are all friendly and very helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our three nights."

"We booked the Marine for a night in February, having spent some happy times in the hotel back in the day. We turned up to be greeted by two barking dogs and a bleak abandoned looking dark bar and lobby. Undeterred, we were greeted by a polite lady, who it transpired was the partner of the caretaker (absent). The rather tired room was cold and the central heating apparently not functioning. The nice lady made phone calls and we arranged to return later when I was assured it would have warmed up. We came back two hours later, to find the place in deeper darkness and the room barely warmed up and borderline uninhabitable given the weather (not of course the fault of the Hotel, but if you open your premises in Feb...). I had my elderly father along for what I had hoped would be a pleasant trip down memory lane, but which was descending into a sub Fawlty Towers bleak farce, I decided to check out. I phoned the owner (Grant, I believe) who seemed bemused by the cold room, less bemused by the closed bar (there was an excuse - but really Grant - this is your business...) and generally gave me a sob story about the state of the industry. I listened politely. He promised me a refund, yet to appear. We moved to another hotel (the one up the hill) - cheaper, cheerful and inhabitable. I hate leaving bad reviews, but really, this was a shockingly bad experience. RIP The Marine"
