Hotels in Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Moon Spring, Dunhuang

For our first night in Dunhuang, we definitely opted for a desert stay (Dunhuang Shazhou Wild Luxury Camp Hotel). For the second night, however, we needed something a little less rugged. Staying in the desert means sand everywhere, constantly – on your head, on your face, even packed into your ears! But the kids absolutely loved playing in the sand; they could spend the entire day there, even under the blazing sun. Be sure to apply plenty of sun protection; the desert sun is incredibly intense. Guesthouses are better than regular star hotels because star hotels have high foot traffic, and it's important to be mindful of protection against common illnesses like flu and respiratory infections. So, we completely skipped the Huaxia, Guoji, Tianhe, and Shazhou hotels in the city center. If your budget is tight, the Mumei Kachi Desert Camping Base is also a viable option, though it's not actually at Mingsha Mountain. If you're staying a third day in Dunhuang, you might consider some of the larger, standard hotels in the city center that have swimming pools. Also, the Sheraton in the city center is a stripped-down Four Points by Sheraton, and it doesn't have a pool.

June 2025... We stayed for four days. It's in a great location for viewing the Myeongsa Mountain/Wolyacheon Tourist Complex. This is a truly wonderful place. It feels more like a friend's home or a warm country home than a typical lodging. They constantly provide fruit and drinks. Although not an option, a home-cooked breakfast is provided every morning. On clear evenings, they even provide a trip to see the stars. It was a truly wonderful experience. They adjusted our check-out time to fit our flight and even provided airport drop-off. I've traveled extensively, but I've never experienced anything like this. If I ever return to Dunhuang, I'll definitely stay here again. Highly recommended.

The overall design is strong and the service is also very good. In the morning, you can hear the sound of the shower draining upstairs in the courtyard room, which is a bit noisy. At night, you can hear singing upstairs when you sit in the courtyard, but you can no longer hear it after you return to the room and close the door.

The accommodation experience is very good. It was newly opened in 2024 and is about 5 minutes away from Mingsha Mountain. It is very convenient to catch the desert sunrise, sunset and starry sky concerts. The B&B is very quiet and surrounded by small woods. It is mysterious and peaceful, where you can have a good rest. The room has many details, including a fully automatic toilet, fully automatic curtains, and induction light strips so you don't have to worry about falling when you get up to go to the bathroom at night. The room also has a small balcony, which is very chill! What's special is that the restaurant has a fireplace, which is used to burn wood when the weather is cool, and there is a screen on one wall for playing movies. Watching a movie by the fire in a quiet large room with floor-to-ceiling windows is so relaxing! When I was leaving for the flight in the morning, the butler sent me a latte! Very cool!

In gernarl the hotel is ok - clean, nice rooms and helpful staff. But it lacks lots of attention to detail. The upstairs terrace was dirty and not preperd to use (contrary to what the pictures on trip.com show). The area around the swimming pool could also look better and cleaner. Also, we arrived at 15.00 and our room was still not ready. Lots of good street food abalible for breakfast around the hotel. And the hotel has very good coffee.

It was my first time to the Northwest, and I saw what a strong wind is when I left the airport! However, when I arrived at the hotel, it was unexpectedly grand, just like the generosity of the Northwest people. The housekeeper Wang Juanjuan at the front desk provided attentive service, and upgraded our room type for the second day for free, gave the children free coupons for breakfast for two days, sent foot bath supplies every night, and reminded us to eat beef noodles in the morning... Even though we couldn't go out because of the sandstorm, it was also very nice for the family to watch TV and eat in the spacious and high-ceilinged luxury suite. It was a happy vacation⛱️

After arriving in Dunhuang, I was in a hurry to Mingsha Mountain. After the return trip, it was 11 o'clock. There was a yellow mark on a sheet and hygiene needed to be improved. The hotel is commendable because it is opposite the Dunhuang Museum, which is very convenient and has a parking lot.

Very recommended. The service was very good. When we arrived in Dunhuang in the afternoon, the boss came to pick us up on time and helped us with our luggage. Entering the homestay, there is a faint fragrance. The room is large and clean, the bedding is very comfortable, there are two pillows to choose from, the decoration style is also good, before booking, I was worried that the bath water in the evaluation was hot and cold. After I personally experienced it, the temperature should be adjusted well, and there will be no hot and cold conditions. Very close to Crescent Spring, the boss will send it to Crescent Spring, and the boss will come to pick it up at night. Parking is also very convenient, I recommend everyone to experience staying.

At night, I could even gaze at the desert stars from the terrace, feeling truly connected to nature! [Perfect Service] From the moment I booked, I felt the owner's attentiveness! We agreed on a pick-up time in advance, and the driver enthusiastically helped with our luggage. Upon check-in, the housekeeper offered us homemade apricot peel water and thoughtfully provided a sand mask and body lotion! [Amazing Facilities] The room's natural wood design creates a soothing, warm, and comfortable atmosphere. The bathroom has a separate wet and dry area, and the hot water comes out instantly. The toiletries are also very useful (I forgot the brand). Best of all, our room has a large picture window with a view of the Mingsha Mountain, making it very quiet at night.
