North Stafford Hotel ★★★

📍 Winton Square, Stoke-on-Trent

"I was apprehensive about the hotel after reading previous reviews, but in some ways I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived. I will start with the positives. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. We were here to attend a wedding at The Ashes in Endon, and this hotel was much more affordable than other, closer hotels and it was only a £10 taxi ride away. The hotel is facing Stoke train station and transport links are good. There is an iron and a hairdryer in the room. Now the negatives. The service we received upon arrival was awful. The lady who checked us in gave us no information or direction and we were made to feel like an inconvenience to her. I would rank her service amongst the worst I have ever received at a hotel. The frustrating thing here is that there were another two women at the reception who helped us over the next couple of days whose service was actually very good, and it is a shame their reputation is let down by one individual. We were staying on the first floor and the wifi did not reach here. Also, the shower flooded the bathroom whenever it was used, and this was unavoidable."

Premier Inn Newcastle Under Lyme ★★★

📍 Talke Rd, Chesterton, Newcastle-under-Lyme District

"When we arrived from the very start Emma was the most helpful, caring member of staff! She gave time to make sure we had everything we needed and was very considerate. It was a pleasure meeting and talking to her and I’d be so pleased if I was to come back and see her again. She deserves praise for the work she does. Me and my family wish her the best of luck completing her charity walk up snowdon. 🌟"

"The place was very clean with all the necessary things provided . Hong was very helpful and helped me a lot with check in, regular cleaning and check out. The only problem is it’s very noisy and disturbing at night with people coming in and out otherwise a good place to stay for short term."

North Stafford Hotel ★★★
"Stayed at the North Stafford Hotel for a business trip over the weekend. It was the cheapest hotel in the area, costing approx. £110 for a 2-night stay in a single room. Firstly, the positives: * The location of the hotel is quite central to most things in Stoke, and within walking distance. * The room was clean enough, the addition of an AC fan tower in the summer heat was welcomed. * The recently renovated bathrooms are quite nice. * Staff at the front desk were welcoming and courteous. * Plenty of sockets in the room for my work devices * Free WiFi is pretty fast; 135mbps down/95mbps upload with no time restrictions. Now, the negatives: * The doors to the rooms don't seal properly, so light and sound were creeping in from the hallway. * There are no "Please be quiet" signs in the hallways. I was shocked that guests were parading down the corridors late at night/early in the morning, talking loudly. * The breakfast was appalling. £9.95 for a single adult. Options available were small sausages, bacon, egg, mushrooms, beans, or two cereal options. The toast machine was turned off, so we had to rely on an archaic toaster which caused a queue. The juice machine wasn't working, so no juice in the morning. * Guests were also not courteous to others in the breakfast area, allowing children to run rampart and shout/scream. They'd also yell at each other across the hall. * In my shower, there was an opened/used bottle of shampoo - possibly indicating the bathroom wasn't cleaned properly before check-in. * The window in my room was literally propped open by a small piece of wood. * Walls between rooms feel thin, I could hear other residents talking quite clearly. The hotel shows promise, the architecture and interior design is lovely and reminiscent of traditional English style. But it needs modernisation badly. It's a shame, given the location of the hotel in relation to the University and the train station."

Best Western Stoke on Trent City Centre Hotel ★★★
"Don't often post reviews on hotels but after some of the comments towards the hotel and people who previously stayed here and the staff who continue to work there that I've read on social media I thought it only fair to give a balanced review. The truth that you can decide for yourself. We usually stay at Premier Inn Trentham Gardens but was well outside our budget this time. Parked in the car park and immediate thoughts were the full place needed a paint job outside. It's a mess but so is a lot of the local area. The council really need to do more in Hanley to drag some of the area up. Arrival at the front door was greeted with a painting team doing works to the entrance and all very polite, moving their stuff to let you in and out. The maintenance team are working at different levels of the hotel as part of it's refurb and you will see works ongoing at different parts. Floor 2 seems to be mostly done and we didn't hear any of the works so was quiet. Some people might complain but why would you if works are improving things. Can't remember the lady that booked us in but she immediately gave my daughter and myself a family room, 225 to the back of the hotel. No noise so perfect. You could tell everything in the room had been changed, new beds, new carpets, new furniture, new bathroom flooring. Really couldn't fault it for the price. Bathroom could do with a bit more work done on it if I was being picky. Bar was decent enough for a refreshment at night after the parks and both Kyle and especially Michelle (who I dealt with most) were friendly and helpful. Good pint with all systems newly installed. Breakfast was good and the tall gent with the glasses (never caught his name) was pleasant and nothing too much bother. He kept on top of clearing and cleaning. I would say (and it's not the staffs fault) that the breakfast room looks really tired, and grubby, it's maybe not a priority but could be looked at to freshen that up. I'm sure it's in the plans. We didn't eat dinners in the hotel but what was served to others looked decent enough, run of the mill food. We chose to eat outside and there are plenty of places near by. Major con, is how warm the rooms and Bennets Bar were. We had two fans in the room and we didn't sleep under the covers once at night and the bar is sweltering but it's an old building, no air con and unless you really struggle with heat, I'd say you will manage. Might be different outside summer months. Last word is to Paulie (spelling) who was a great help from first phone call and any interaction in the hotel with her was superb. A credit to your hotel. Would I stay again and was it value for money? The people, location and renovated rooms would probably make me stay again. We got a really good price for 2 nights. £139 for the full stay for myself and my daughter with breakfast. Had that been bumped up to the £200+ mark I'd probably stay elsewhere but that is great value. Hopefully it's the start of a major chang"
