Centara Hotels in Koh Phangan

Overall the hotel was nice but in several point not what we expected: We booked a „villa with sea view“. There was no sea view at the villa that was assigned to us. You couldn’t see the sea neither from within the villa nor from the pool nor from the sun beds nor from the outside bath tub. The only way to see a glimpse of the sea was to stand up on a certain spot on the terrace. That’s not what we expected from a room advertised as „with sea view“ and the (trip.com) booking page also suggested otherwise. When we complained, we got assigned another villa where we could see the sea partly. Thank you for that. However, the manager told us that the photos from the booking page were in fact another villa. But it's not my responsibility to make sure that the photos and pictures provided on booking pages are correct. The hotel has to take care of that! This holds also true for the next issue: The gym was closed due to renovation. In the booking process, they advertised a huge fitness center with lots of machines. Now it’s shut down and we did not get any information about this. The „mini gym“, which does not even have at least one multi exercise machine, is nothing but a bad joke and no replacement at all for a proper gym! Again the staff told us they would inform about this on their website. When I checked that, I still found the photos of the large gym on their own website. It was just called ”mini gym”. But how am I supposed to know what they mean by that and that the provided photos are no longer correct??

Grab a coffee, this could take a while. Bed sheets were filthy and smelt like an old dogs bed. TV was an old tube type that couldn’t get channels (although brochure said flat screen with cable) The toilet was constantly blocked. In 7 nights (our length of stay) our room was cleaned once. So no drinking water. No toilet roll. No fresh towels. Our booking consisted of breakfast, but once was enough, only had half of what we requested and the staff were rude, so we ate in a bar up the road instead. The electric kept going off so no air con. They did agree to fix it but not until the following day! No hot water. Then we discovered the new villas behind the bar area, which is what we had in fact booked. We insisted we be moved which the staff agreed to, begrudgingly!! We get to our new room where there was in fact a flat screen TV but no aerial so unless you have your own subscriptions you are stuck with sky news! Bed smelt better but we woke up to an army of ants!! Location is perfect. That is the only positive I can give!! Extremely disappointed! I travel for a month around Asia every year, this is our 4th hotel this year and by far the worst I have ever stayed in. That includes the others I’ve stayed in over the years!! Booking.com should take some responsibility for misleading information!!!

This is the best hotel on the island 100%. Its located in Chalokum, which is 15 minutes from ThongSala but its the most convenient location on the cheapest side of the island. You can walk to 711 and about a dozen really good western and Thai eateries in under 2 minutes. Even vegetarian and vegan options. The pier is a 2-minute walk, they have a private beach and the pool is amazing. The rooms ARE HUGE and so cheap. I would live here if I could.

I loved this hotel! The pool is incredible and the rooms were very spacious. The hotel itself is a bit out of the way but if you just want to hang out at the resort, it is more than equipped to keep you busy and/or relaxed (gym, pool, spa, beach). There is a cute little street right next to it with tons of great restaurants (Monsoon was amazing!) and that street leads to a huge beach. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and would recommend it to anyone, but couples and families in particular.

The hotel is located a little far from civilization. You need to be prepared for this. The nearest 7 eleven is a 20 minute walk. This was not a problem for us. We stayed for 2 days and spent them entirely at the hotel. I didn't want to go out anywhere. At first glance, everything seems a little outdated, but the area has such a cool, relaxing atmosphere that after 5 minutes you forget about it. We lived in a wonderful Villa with a pool and sunset views right from the balcony. Breakfast and dinner were included. The food was divine. The staff is very attentive. Everyone knows what villa you live in, what kind of coffee you like, etc. It was very surprising. The hotel has a beautiful beach - although in the afternoon, because... in the first half, due to the tide, the beach goes under water. But in the afternoon it opens and it’s very cool to walk there. The places are very picturesque.

Really nice hotel, we had 3 Superior rooms that overlooked the larger pool and with a view of the bay. They are very nicely styled and comfortable, with good beds and pillows, and aircon. They were very clean and with a nice big balcony. I think that standard rooms are perhaps in an older part of the hotel and overlook another pool, and are a little far from the main facilities. 1 issue with these room styles is the glass half height door on the toilet - meaning a distinct lack of privacy. The buffet breakfast was generally good, but go early to beat the rush, on one of our days we were late to breakfast and it was very busy with some things running out. Service in the rstaurant in the evening was hit and miss, but we found this was the case all over ths island. On one occasion we waited 1h20 minutes between ordering and receiving the last dish ordered, and 40 minutes between the first and last. Yet the restaurant was very quiet. Food quality was good and prices were correct. The pool was nice, very big and clean and the beach nearby is beautiful. There aren't enough sun loungers though, but if you go to the older pool then there is always space. Some reviews on hotel websites say that it is a little isolated. Not sure I'd totally agree, it is in a quieter area but there are plenty of restaurants and shops around within walking difference. The quietness of the area more than compensates for the isolation. You can easily rent a scooter for 200 baht a day or a car. However taking the hotel transport or other taxis is expensive in comparison, and also charged per person not per vehicle. TIP: snorkelling off the beach is great, but to get to the snorkelling area near the hotel is difficult, it's rocky and there are sharp rocks that cut and graze. The secret that we were told is to look on Google maps on satellite view. You can see a clear route through the rocks/reef at one point about 200 metres or so up the beach away from the resort. However shoes are still necessary. After that, the snorkelling was excellent in the morning when the sea was calm. Also go to the beach at sunset, it was lovely. Best restaurant we found was Wan Yam Kam just opposite the hotel entrance (it might have another name now - but that's the name on google maps). Service in other restaurants was hit and miss as described above. Expect to pay around 120-140 baht for a simple Thai dish, around 160-200 for non Thai, around 140-160 for a cocktail, 25 to 30 baht for a soda and 60-70 for a beer. We visited the waterfalls near the hotel - bizarre place and wrong season as no water! Our chidren did a PADI diving course with SailRock Divers school nearby, can recommend. Very good communication and teaching. My issue with Agoda (a rookie mistake as I usually use ***********) is that they are not transparent with pricing and payment. Our 3rd stay at the Sunrise Resort ,the staff are extreamley friendly and helpful and the beach front villas are amazing, walk down 2 steps and you are on the beach.

The view from the hotel's shared pool is wonderful. The rooms are clean. The employees are very respectful, friendly and helpful. Price performance is very good.

Stayed here for 3 days, think it's family run lodge. The hotel room key was really a key, a big one. The door creaked when opening but overall the room was nice, amenities was good. When requested for a kettle, the kind old lady provided me very fast....very nice. Pity did not make use of the swimming pool as it was hot for 2 of the days there. A short walk to a food court nearby, Thongsala Square (where the race start)...and the Walking Street where they had a nice night bazaar on Saturday, pity it rained halfway. Also a short walk to Phantip Market area. But definitely need taxi to the site of Full Moon Party lol Yes, also had a lot of tour agencies just outside the hotel. And laundry services, I did mine at a cheap 80 baht...and it came back ironed and with a nice fragance ...Highly recommended. (ok, they do have some self service laundry too at 30 bht per kg??? but definitely not ironed??)
