We had a wonderful stay here. The room was lovely and the terrace with the view of Matera was stunning for breakfast and drinks, if sometimes hard to get a table in the early evening. The staff were excellent, especially Cristina and their obvious pride and knowledge of Matera was evident. The hotel was perfectly located with everything within walking distance. If you have a rental hire car, we particularly recommend taking up their offer of parking just outside Matera and they will pick you up in a minivan to take you to just outside the hotel. We would strongly recommend this hotel.

Our stay at Hotel Palazzo Degli Abati was simply outstanding. Even before our arrival, we were provided with exceptionally friendly and helpful information regarding parking options. The parking reservation was completely hassle-free and included an excellent and punctual shuttle service. The reception staff were warm, professional, and always helpful – truly outstanding! Breakfast was delicious, varied, and of the highest quality. Our suite “Senza Nidd” was an absolute highlight: beautifully designed, very comfortable, and with a unique atmosphere. We can wholeheartedly recommend this hotel and would return without hesitation.

We stayed in one of the suites, one word : WOW. A lovely room with all comfort and our own little terrace with a fantastic view ! All of the staff was extremely friendly and helpfull. Breakfast on the terrace was very nice as well ! Looking forward to returning one day.

We rated our stay a number 2 because the management refused even a partial refund due to a health issue caused by the hotel. Owner/manager was extremely rude and difficult to speak with. I would never stay at this hotel again, in fact, the owner said he would never speak with me again. Also, the parking arrangements were terrible. Air conditioning was not working properly. Shower flooded the floor. Lighting not efficient. I could go on and on.

This place is fabulous and exceeded expectations. A special thanks to Cristina and Antionella, the two concierges who helped us solve an issue with booking a bus from Matera to Naples. Can't say enough good things about their kindness and professionalism. This was a peak experience in every way possible.

Looking for a cave hotel? This is place. Not too $$$ in off season. In the Barisano next to the rock church. The best views-especially at night. Great breakfast buffet and terrace. Would go back. Cristina was our very helpful desk/concierge person. Make sure you go to Casa Noha for the historical film.

We stayed one night to see Matera and wow! What a location. The rooms are very nice and modern and the staff is super nice. The hotel is in the heart of Matera and you can easily walk to all of the famous landmarks. Just be ready for all the hills and steps. Could not be happier with our decision to stay here.

I had the most amazing room, which was two adjoining caves built into the hillside. The room was enormous (and much more chic and beautiful than the photos suggest) and the bathroom (in the adjoining cave) was also huge and luxurious. The room was naturally cool and the bed extremely comfortable. There was a terrace outside with chairs giving a fabulous view over Matera. Everyone was very helpful and welcoming. I can’t recommend this place enough if you are planning to stay in Matera - the bistro associated with the hotel also has incredible views.
