GGuest UserThis hotel is truly excellent! While it might not boast the trendiest, newest decor, its excellence absolutely shines through in its management and operations. I stayed for two nights and it was incredibly comfortable – so much so that I'd consider returning to Zhangye just to stay here again. The hotel genuinely anticipates everything a traveler might need on their journey. I later found out the manager is a woman, which explains the incredible attention to detail, thoughtfulness, and consideration. And to my surprise, the food produced by the hotel is genuinely delicious! I randomly bought a hotel-made yogurt from the fridge on the first floor, and it completely blew all those well-known branded yogurts out of the water! It's even more delicious than any Greek yogurt! It truly conquered the heart of someone who doesn't even like dairy products! Absolutely exquisite!

From the moment we arrived, the owner went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, even personally helping us carry our luggage upstairs. His hospitality didn’t stop there—he kindly assisted us in booking tickets for a local show and even drove us there himself, which made our trip so much more convenient and enjoyable. The room was spotless, one of the cleanest we’ve stayed in, and it was clear that great care is taken to maintain high standards. We also really appreciated the free laundry service, which was incredibly helpful during our travels. The location is perfect—just a short walking distance to the west entrance of the Danxia park, making it easy to explore. Right across the hotel is a fantastic restaurant, so finding great food was effortless. To top it all off, the owner even prepared thoughtful departing gifts for us, which was such a warm and memorable touch. His kindness and attentiveness truly set this place apart. If you’re visiting the area, this hotel is an outstanding choice.

VValarie474A Princess Treatment Stay in Zhangye From the moment the hotel staff picked me up at the train station, I have received nothing but princess treatment. Whether this is standard or something special because I'm a solo female traveler in an area that doesn't see many foreigners outside of tour groups, I genuinely don't know. What I do know is that I felt looked after from start to finish. The arrival set the tone. A friendly staff member was waiting right at the train station exit, and the ride to the hotel was barely five minutes. I ended up on the top floor with a mostly unobstructed mountain view, and on a clear day you can apparently catch sunrise and sunset from up there. My room is enormous for one person. Two full bathrooms, a separate living room, separate bedroom with an additional couch. The little touches genuinely surprised me: a real sewing kit (not the sad three-thread version), a loofah, nice lotion, a plastic liner for the tub, cute slippers I may have to ”accidentally” pack, shower shoes, multiple teas, and a pod coffee maker. Speaking of the tub liner, it came paired with a sachet of ”red wine bath liquid” in this blood-red color, and combined with the plastic sheeting the whole setup gave me serious Dexter vibes. IYKYK. Slightly disturbing, completely awesome. Free laundry down the hall on my floor with washers, dryers, and soap provided. The breakfast spread is plentiful and genuinely good, tons of dishes, real variety. The one issue during my stay was the climate control. My room hit 28°C and I called down for help. They sent an army of staff. When they realized moving me wouldn't solve anything because the issue affected another room too, they rebooted the system instead of just shuffling me around. By the time I finished dinner and used my included dining credit, my room was cool and comfortable. That's not just good service, that's good problem-solving. They adapted, communicated, and fixed it properly. The staff deserves their own paragraph. Reception and the kitchen team were complete standouts. Everyone was gracious and warm, and the ones who spoke English did so beautifully even though they kept apologizing for it (they really shouldn't have, they were great). There was a moment at check-in when two excited staff members brought me up to my room and we all forgot the room key in the lobby. One of them ran back down to get it while we laughed about it together. That kind of warmth you can't fake. And it isn't just the front of house, there doesn't seem to be a moment when somebody isn't cleaning something, whether it's the windows, the chairs in the outdoor seating area, the bikes available for guests, or the koi pond. This hotel is genuinely well taken care of by its staff and ownership, and it shows. I didn't get to do everything I wanted to in Zhangye, which means I'll be back. And when I do come back, I'll be staying right here. I honestly can't say enough good things about this place.

GGuest UserOne of my favourite stays in 6 months across China Communication before arrival was smooth via WeChat, and the staff proactively helped me plan a full itinerary for the region, all in English, which as a foreign solo traveller in China I truly appreciated. The hotel arranged a driver who picked me up directly at the train station gate and took me wherever I needed to go. I could adjust my plans at any time, and he was always there waiting or arrived right on schedule. The whole organzation was genuinely flexible and reliable. The location of the hotel is perfect, like less than 10 minutes walking from Danxia Park West Gate, so you can catch the 5:30 AM opening for sunrise at Platform 1 and go for sunset at Platform 3. The staff helped me to go to Binguo, Kangle Grassland, Alien Scenic Park, Pingshan Grand Canyon and Mati Temple. Over 5 days, I saw far more than I ever could have managed on my own, especially as this area is really remote and no didi is available. It is one of my favourite trips and stays from six months in China and I’ve seen quite a bit. Would come back without hesitation.

Showing your guesthouse reservation allows you to drive directly up to the property, saving you one shuttle bus ticket. The next day, if you plan to hike the 'Thirty-Three Heavens,' you can drive straight to the parking lot below, which is super convenient and saves a lot of energy 🅿️. In the evening, you can sign up for the hostess's stargazing tour. The sky was full of clearly visible stars – absolutely stunning! And everyone got some amazing photos!! Getting up at 8 AM the next day for a leisurely hike up the 'Thirty-Three Heavens' was perfect; we completely avoided the crowds, encountering only cleaning staff and meditating masters. Plus, by getting up early, we even saw blue pheasants and marmots fighting, haha! After the hike, we returned to the guesthouse just in time to check out and have a meal, then said goodbye to the snow-capped mountains feeling content yet reluctant to leave! I was also really impressed with the facilities in the mountains. The shower water was surprisingly hot! And the toilet didn't clog! Food was always available and tasted great! They even had butter tea! And the snow-capped mountains were visible right from our window for free! Songtsam probably isn't much better than this!

The showerhead was spraying water everywhere and really needs to be replaced. After two nights, I noticed the cleaning wasn't very thorough; it felt like they just made the bed and replaced the towels and water. There was still hair in the bathroom drain. My friend's unfinished skincare products were thrown away. When we switched rooms, the key card was only set for one day, which was incredibly careless.

I was impressed by the Holiday Inn Express at Zhangye for their excellent customer services, delicious breakfast, and room facilities. Their room rate was also surprisely friendly. This low rate may not last once the hotel completes its renovation.
