Ryounkaku Matsunoyama Onsen

The breakfast was really interesting and the hot springs felt good.

This is an inn located a little away from Matsunoyama Onsen town. It is an inn that is a member of the Japanese Society for Preserving Secret Hot Springs. The main building is a registered tangible cultural property, and is a quaint wooden building. When you walk down the corridors and stairs, you can hear a nostalgic creaking sound. Not everything is old, the shared toilets and washrooms are new and clean. Since it is a "secret hot spring," I was looking forward to the bath... The bath is in the "new building," across the corridor. It is far away. Also, since it is a reinforced concrete building, it has no charm like the main building. Perhaps because of the coronavirus pandemic, the futons are laid out in advance, and the desks are put away to the side, so the rooms feel small. The large and medium baths are alternated between men and women, and they change before and after dinner, so if you don't take a bath at least once before dinner, you will miss out on one of them. There are few washing areas in the medium bath, and there is no drain near the faucet, which seems to have been added later, so shampoo and soap flow directly into the surrounding washing areas, which I found a bit unpleasant. The family bath is not diluted with water, so it is very hot, but if you want to enjoy the hot spring, you should take a bath at least once during your stay. The food was delicious, mainly consisting of mountain vegetables.
