Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park Resort Hotel Reviews

Our stay at the Haichang Hotel was fantastic! We were contacted by customer service in advance to discuss our itinerary and accommodation details. They even upgraded our room and arranged for a late check-out. When we arrived in the morning, both of our clean rooms were ready, and we also received a complimentary breakfast for an older child. The front desk staff, the lovely Miss Paopao who messaged us on WeChat, and all the cleaning staff on the 7th floor provided excellent service. You can really tell that Haichang Hotel's service has significantly improved! 👍🏻

The room was clean and tidy, especially the bunk beds for kids, which my child really loved. The soundproofing was also quite good. The hotel's front desk and concierge service were very nice; they proactively asked if we needed help with our luggage, and the overall atmosphere of the hotel was excellent. Before check-in, they kindly reminded us about the park's showtimes. The buffet breakfast had everything you'd expect, and although it was very crowded during breakfast hours, you could see the staff constantly clearing used dishes. The科普 (science popularization) staff in the jellyfish, beluga, and polar bear exhibits were engaging and humorous in their explanations, which was a big plus. Every show is worth watching; in short, it was a worthwhile trip! My only complaint is about the park itself: the directional signage wasn't detailed or clear enough, and there was no drinking water available within the park.

The room had a strange odor, but since we were only staying one night, we just put up with it. The front desk staff weren't very helpful either, seemed like they needed more training. On the plus side, the hotel is very close to the park entrance, which was convenient, especially with kids.

Even before we arrived, the staff called to confirm our booking and sent us little tips via WeChat! Such great attention to detail! Check-in was super quick too. The room was clean, and even had a mini-fridge. Overall, the comfort level was really good, and my kids had a blast for two days. They loved the two killer whale shows, which were quite stunning! Later, they even granted us a late check-out. The service was absolutely superb!

I booked this hotel for its proximity to the theme park, but I definitely won't be returning. Around 8 PM, we came back to the hotel to wash up. When my child was taking a bath, I noticed the water temperature was unusually high. I managed to cool it down a bit by using the bathtub and letting it sit. However, when I went to wash myself, I discovered there was only hot water, no cold water at all! This applied to both the shower and the sink. I tried calling the front desk multiple times, but no one answered. Later that evening, I tried again and thankfully the water supply had resumed, so I was finally able to shower. I can't imagine such a dangerous situation happening at a family-friendly hotel. Good thing I used the bathtub for my child, otherwise, the consequences could have been dire. While the hotel's aging facilities are somewhat understandable, as a hotel that promotes itself as family-friendly, they failed on several accounts: first, they didn't warn guests about potential water shortages during peak times; second, they didn't promptly notify guests of issues or potential dangers via in-room calls when problems arose; third, the in-room phone went unanswered immediately after the problem occurred; fourth, they didn't inform us when the water supply was restored; and fifth, the day after the incident, they merely called to ask if we had encountered any problems and offered a small gift as a way to brush it off. As a consumer, the only way I can rate this hotel is with the side-eye of the penguin in the hotel hallway.

The only thing that deserves a three-star rating is the service, and those three stars are specifically for intern 0014. She's a very enthusiastic and patient young lady with exceptionally good service, a definite thumbs up for her! As for everything else, anyone who goes will regret it. The hotel facilities are very old. The cold water tap was broken when I took a shower at night, so there was only hot water. The room walls were also very dirty. Other services are simply not up to par. The breakfast restaurant is very small, and after 8:30 AM, there's a crowd of people queuing at the restaurant entrance. And then there's the Tang Ji restaurant within the hotel. Honestly, the food was unpleasantly terrible, beyond words! If you're planning to visit Haichang Ocean Park, I'd recommend staying at a nearby hotel instead.

## Hotel Review First off, I want to give a shout-out to the housekeeping service. Even though I only stayed one night, I called housekeeping several times for various items, and the aunties (staff) were always very quick to respond. Now, for the rest, it's mostly complaints... 1. For a room costing over 1,000 RMB (a couple hundred US dollars), the in-room amenities at this resort hotel were surprisingly low-end. There wasn't even a mini-fridge in the mini-bar, so I couldn't chill my yogurt, fruit, or face masks. Everything went bad by the next day. The toilet wasn't automatic, which was a first for me in a resort hotel, especially in a big city like Shanghai. 2. The bathroom had no ventilation system. After a shower, I'd break out in a sweat again just drying off and tidying up. 3. As for drying clothes, forget it. There was just one small hook. It really shows a lack of attention to detail. 4. The kids' bunk bed creaked all night. Every time someone turned over, it made a noise. 5. Don't even get me started on breakfast. Unless you go before 8 AM, you'll probably face a long queue. With so many rooms and only one breakfast restaurant, it's impossible to manage the flow of people. 6. In summary, honestly, this nearly 2,000 RMB per night stay felt completely not worth it. ## Trip.com Review We came to the aquarium, and honestly, being able to experience diving without queuing was great. My child was incredibly excited and kept asking to go diving again the next day. I saw that my member benefits included a late check-out service, so I called Trip.com customer service in the evening. The voice prompt said there were 0 people ahead of me in the queue, but I still waited nearly 10 minutes to be connected. As soon as I politely started, "Hi, ma'am, given my membership level, could you please help me apply for a late check-out?" She probably only heard "late check-out" before curtly saying, "I'll transfer you to the hotel front desk." *Click*, and I was at the front desk... Since this is a benefit of my membership, I believe Trip.com should have helped coordinate it. I know I could have contacted the hotel directly, but I earned my membership tier through spending. During peak summer vacation, there's a chance the hotel might refuse. My reason for wanting a late check-out was simply to let my child take a shower after diving.

We upgraded to the family room, and my child absolutely loved the bunk beds! Having two days of unlimited access to the park was great – we could pop back to the hotel for a rest whenever we got tired. Our 2-day, 1-night stay was packed with shows and attractions, and my child had a fantastic time. We'll definitely be back!

I booked this hotel because it's convenient for taking my kids to the amusement park. The package deal was pretty good, so I'd recommend it if you're traveling with children. I forgot something, and the front desk even called to confirm it for me, so the service was really great.

We changed to a family twin room last minute, and I had requested bed rails, which my child loved! The service was excellent, and the breakfast was very rich. There's also a small playground on the first floor. It's super close to the park, making for a very enjoyable trip.

The room was spacious and spotlessly clean, with beautiful ocean-themed decor. We booked a package that included unlimited two-day access to the park, which was really convenient for our trip with the kids. There's an amusement park inside the resort with two roller coasters that the kids rode countless times – they had an absolute blast! It's much better value than waiting two hours for the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at Shanghai Disneyland. There are also lots of shows within the park, making the two-day visit a fantastic experience with plenty of time to enjoy everything.
