The room was clean and hygienic. I found two socks left by previous guests in the room. The location is good. There is a supermarket next to it, which is convenient. There is also free parking. Other things are generally OK.

Outstanding
GGuest UserThe first time I stayed in such a good hotel, because Edinburgh was not as fun as I imagined, so I stayed for a day and came to Carlisle. I didn’t expect to encounter such a home-like hotel. If you are a family of four coming to Europe unless you book two rooms, otherwise the room is small. You can’t imagine it. Here ~ to book a suite, like at home, the kitchen has everything! I went to buy ingredients that night to make it!

Excellent
I absolutely LOVED my stay at Cartref! I can't recommend it enough- it's a short walk from the train station and you can easily walk into the town centre. I was in Carlisle for a gig at The Old Fire Station, and found the guest house to be in a great location as it didn't take me too long to walk through town to the venue. Melanie (the owner of Cartref) is really friendly and welcoming; it is clear she pays great attention to detail with the rooms and needs of her guests. My room was beautiful; spotlessly clean, bright, and airy with a SUPER comfy bed and lovely quality bedding, which was brilliantly white. The en-suite bathroom was well equipped, incredibly clean, with a GREAT shower, plenty of towels, a lovely soft robe, slippers and excellent quality local toiletries. You get plenty of teabags, coffee and hot chocolate in the room by the kettle; there's even a mini fridge you can use, which had bottles of water and fresh milk for a cuppa on arrival. The breakfast menu has plenty of choice; it was really tasty, freshly prepared and served in the very pretty dining room. The reception area is pretty and nicely presented with plenty of useful info- there is also a really handy book in the bedroom containing all the information you need for your stay with great recommendations for things to do/places to eat in the local area. I highly recommend Cartref and will definitely be booking to stay there again next time I visit Carlisle.

Very Good
GGuest UserThe morning after the night before. It gives me great satisfaction to be able to pen a review of all things positive. Only a 1 night stop over en route to Scotland from Manchester. On arrival, front of house team Theo and Mel excelled. After a breeze of a check-in the first thing I noticed was the beautiful, spacious and most importantly clean Restaurant and bar area. Anybody staying here will not be disappointed. Thankfully dogs are welcome but kept away from main eating areas, a rule we were happy to adhere to. Theo in particular is a staff member Ibis/Accor should be extremely proud of. He was very knowledgeable about the chain and I could imagine all things Accor would be his specialised subject on Mastermind. I have stayed at the Travelodge down the rd and for a hotel of the same raring, the Ibis is streets ahead. I hope Management take the time to read this review and reward staff members (Accor)dingly. Well done!!!

Lluilui曼漫遊The location is very convenient, right in front of the train station. First, there was a problem with the service. I booked a double room and was given a single room. I was asked to change rooms after I left. Second, the room was very dark and old, the facilities were dilapidated, and three of the six lights were broken. The carpet is horrible. But the beds are very comfortable and the facilities are complete. Thirdly, hygiene needs to be improved and the bathroom smells bad. Fourth, the hot water from the bathroom shower head is not hot, but the water from the water pipe is normal, which is very strange. Fifth, because there is a bar nearby downstairs, it is very noisy at night. In summary, there is nothing to choose from except convenience.

GGuest UserA decent hotel with very old furnishing. But what it lacked on it, it more than recovered on its location which is right in the city centre with just 2 min walk from station and excellent staff. The room’s thermostat was not working properly so when I raised this complaint to the reception they promptly provided me with another room heater. The polite and helpful staff enhanced the overall experience

DDaisyDaisy100This hotel is in great need of some tlc. Very tatty and in some parts repair is needed. It seemed clean enough and the staff were helpful but the place itself was not good value for money. On arrival to the twin room we'd booked, we found only one bed had a duvet on it. We were given another room which was a double and less suitable for us as it meant sharing a bed. There was a hell of a lot of noise from other guests, both above and in the room next to us, and the walls seemed very thin. So we didn't get much rest. The included breakfast was fair and cooked to order, although quite limited beyond the cooked part.

CCazzyWe had one overnight stay while traveling South. Hotel was easy to find with use of Google maps. Plenty on site parking. Efficient check-in. Room was compact, but comfortable. Nice hot shower. Towels were provided. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant, which felt a bit more like a pub with football on TV and a pool table. Not everything on the menu was available to order; although salmon and burger were lovely and plentiful. The waiter was very helpful. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel, as we brought our own. Hotel popular with white van drivers.
