Once the seat of the House of Saxe Coburg and Gotha it is now one of Austrian capitals most exceptional five-star luxury hotels / Palais Coburg was built between 1840 and 1845 in a classicist style commissioned by Ferdinand von Sachsen Coburg Gotha / The grand palace was constructed atop a former bastion Braunbastei whose foundations include sections of the citys fortifications dating from the sixteenth century / In 1997 a private foundation the POK Puehringer Privatstiftung acquired the building / From 2000 to 2003 after several years of planning they renovated and revitalized and rebuilt the structure taking into account all available historical information /
On 7 November 2003 the new Palais Coburg opened to the public / Six centuries of Viennese architectural history can thus be experienced in one building

Although Palais Coburg guest rooms are currently under renovation, we took advantage of the ability to tour the amazing wine cellars that are here, and taste some wines. This was a unique experience because of the immense size and variety of the collection, and the excellent tour provided by Lenny, one of the sommeliers. Lenny was very nice, extremely knowledgeable about the wine collection, and he chose some excellent wines for us to taste that we truly enjoyed. The 4 of us were extremely impressed. Thank you and great job Lenny!

The Coburg Bastion is one of the rare remnants of the defensive wall around Vienna. The adjacent Coburg Palais is an exclusive hotel and a venue for various cultural events and concerts. We came to Vienna to listen to the concert at the Coburg Bastion of the Rêverie saxophone quartet and our nephew, one of its members. The music was beautiful, a mix of contemporary and classical compositions which we enjoyed very much!

Stunningly beautiful, the Palais Coburg was built between 1840 and 1845 for Duke Ferdinand. It was renovated and now houses a superb 5-star luxury hotel, condominiums and a restaurant. Built atop the Brown Bastion dating back to the mid 1500s.

This review is long overdue. My teenage son and I spent a couple nights in Vienna here and the room was spacious, clean, and very quiet. Excellent location for exploring the city on foot. Best of all, the concierge was absolutely incredible. My son forgot his contact lens plunger at home (of course) and we were at a loss for how to remove his hard contact lens without it. The concierge went above, beyond, and into outer space for us to find this item for us even though it was early morning and difficult to track down. They even sent someone to go purchase the item and deliver it to our room, which was so very kind of them given my unfamiliarity with the city and my son's state. I will never forget their competency and kindness, truly the best concierge I have ever encountered.
