Zao Shiki No Hotel Reviews

The room interior is newly renovated, featuring a Western-style bed paired with traditional Japanese tatami flooring. It's incredibly clean and spacious. For dinner, we had Japanese cuisine, specifically beef teppanyaki. The wagyu beef was high-quality and truly impressive, seared to perfection until crispy and fragrant, melting in your mouth. The staff were exceptionally warm and attentive. I enjoyed the outdoor sulfur hot spring, which is a free-flowing, high-temperature, high-concentration spring directly from the source. After bathing, my palms peeled for two days (haha!), and my skin felt incredibly smooth. The hot spring on B1 of the hotel is also very clean and doesn't have that rotten egg smell, though it's not a free-flowing spring.

love this hotel although it is abit on the higher price point. super convenient to reach zao ropeway and other restaurants. the toilet is super big, my partner and i were so impressed. will definitely stay here again!

The dinner included was incredibly generous, and the Yamagata beef served was absolutely delicious. The hotel is just a minute's walk from the outdoor hot spring, which is very picturesque. The room was also spacious enough. I highly recommend staying here; it's only a few minutes' walk to the Zao Juhyo Ropeway Station.

This was my first time staying at Zao Shiki, and it's conveniently located just a 7-minute walk from the Zao Ropeway station. The lobby felt a bit dark when I walked in, with an old European style. While the snow view from the balcony was beautiful, it wasn't very expansive. The room seemed to have been renovated, with two single beds that were very comfortable, spacious, and clean. Although the hotel has both indoor and outdoor hot springs, I was informed that the outdoor one was temporarily closed for some reason, so I could only use the indoor one. The hotel also offers access to a separate 'hut' about 100 steps away, which has outdoor, indoor, and foot baths. It was a bit of a hassle, but they provide yukatas, red heavy snow coats, and boots at the entrance to walk over, which was quite fun despite the snow outside.

I really can't find any faults with this hotel; it's genuinely great, and I'll definitely stay here again next time. In this area, there's only one other hotel of the same caliber: Zao Kokusai Hotel. These two are quite comparable in all aspects. If one is unavailable, I'll book the other. They are both top two choices. I've stayed at the other one many times as well, so I can definitely compare them.

The snow view was absolutely stunning! The hotel was clean and tidy, and the hot spring was very relaxing. Super nice experience!

The trip was planned few weeks ahead, accommodation options in Zao Onsen are scarce. If there were other options, I probably would not go with this hotel again. - Before arrival, I called the hotel twice using trip.com but no one answered. - There was only one front desk staff handling check-in. I have waited for 20 minutes for check-in and the Indian family has it waited for 35 minutes. There was another staff coming out from the office and acknowledged the queue. However no action was taken despite the long wait by guest. - I inquired about shuttle bus service but the staff at the entrance said “No shuttle bus”. I saw shuttle bus having the hotel name around the Zao Onsen area. - On the first day of room cleaning, the cleaning lady has not replaced the used porcelain cup and Japanese cup. Also no replenishment on tea bags and toilet amenities. At this price point of over USD500 per night, I was quite surprised. - There are 2 onsen places, one outside the hotel and one on the 1F. The outdoor onsen inside the hotel was not opened and the reason is “snow accumulation”. Overall, the room is spacious and clean but the service did not meet the expectations.

Onsen is perfect and the breakfast is with a lot of varieties. The staff is helpful and friendly.

High standard hot spring hotel, environment is clean and neat. Only drawback is the hotel’s hot spring facility is located 50 meters on across the parking lot outside the hotel main building. A bit of challenge during winter.

The room was beautiful, with tatami, yukata, tabi, and a little bag with towels to take with you when you go to their proper outdoor onsen that's right across the street. The onsen has good amenities, has 2 baths one indoor that's around 42 - 45 degrees, and outdoor one that's usually cooler around 38 - 42. The best thing about that onsen is that there usually not many people there, often I was there alone. The breakfast was great too, there were at least around 20 - 30 different dishes/foods to choose from. The hotel also sells discounted ski passes, and has it's own ski/snowboard rental service for lower price than most of the rental services nearby (the snowboard was of great quality, the shoes not so much). When we checked out, the hotel arranged a van to take us to the bus terminal as well. Overall, one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at in Japan. 👌🏻

Hotel was nice. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Foods was good. Onsen was perfect. We would come back again for sure^^.
