Pack warm layers like a jacket, fleece, and thermal pants. - Sun Protection: High-altitude sun is intense. Diqing Tour (3) - Cizhong Church

Diqing Tour (3) - Cizhong Church

At dusk, we approached Cizhong Village in Deqin County, where Cizhong Church is located. The Lancang River lies between Cizhong Village and the Dewei Highway. A modern bridge spans the river, but it was closed for repairs at that time, allowing only pedestrian access. Fortunately, it was only about 1 kilometer from the bridge to the church. When we arrived at the church, we found the gate locked, so we took the opportunity to explore the village, observing the residents' houses and the new village built by the government for relocated households. When we returned to the church, the gate was open, rewarding our sincere effort to visit the church. Cizhong Church is an impressive structure, blending Chinese and Western styles. It was built in 1921 with funds from the Qing government as compensation for the Weixi Incident. Next to the church, there is a vegetable garden and a vineyard belonging to the church, and the graves of three missionaries are located in the garden. On May 25, 2006, Cizhong Church was listed as a national key cultural relic protection unit by the State Council. We wanted to visit Cizhong Church partly because of its reputed beauty and partly out of curiosity about how Catholicism took root in such a remote area. The sight of the church and the graves made us ponder deeply. In the 19th century, French missionaries left their homeland and traveled thousands of miles to Yunnan, bringing with them a foreign religion, as well as coffee seeds, grape cultivation, and winemaking techniques. In the process of spreading their religion, they built the church with Chinese architectural elements to better integrate with the local culture. They even adopted Chinese names and wore Chinese clothing. Some shed their blood in religious conflicts, while others spent their entire lives preaching and were buried locally. Putting aside politics, religion, culture, and nationality, the dedication of these missionaries is not only commendable but also worthy of universal admiration. As night fell, the valley grew darker, and we rested in Yanmen Township, preparing to admire the magnificent Meili Snow Mountain the next day.

Every small village has places worth remembering | Passing through Cizhong Village in Deqin

On the way from Weixi to Deqin, there is such a small village Although most of the houses are newly built self-constructed homes And do not retain the quaint and tranquil feeling But here stands a century-old church It has also been rated as one of the ten most distinctive churches in China That is the Cizhong Catholic Church⛪️ ⛪️The church was originally built in 1867 during the Qing Dynasty by French missionaries It was later destroyed due to religious conflicts, But was rebuilt in 1909, taking 12 years to complete. Unfortunately, it was not open when we visited We could only take a look from the outside The church's bell tower has three stories The roof features traditional Chinese-style flying eaves At the top of the bell tower stands a cross Back then, the missionaries also brought over the equipment and techniques for making Gandi wine They taught the local people how to cultivate grapes and make wine, a tradition that continues to this day. So if you want to understand the history of wine here, you can go to 'Kawaka Jiu' 🍇Cizhong Wine House Taste the hundred-year tradition of naturally fermented dry red wine The owner is very enthusiastic He told us that once every household in the village made wine But now very few do However, their family's old house and wine cellar have been preserved Even though it is surrounded by new buildings Thanks to the owner's careful creation and maintenance The old house is still very beautiful, and the courtyard is full of succulents We visited the underground wine cellar Inside, in addition to the winemaking tools There are also many treasured old photos French missionaries, the look of Cizhong Village a hundred years ago, and more can all be seen here 📍Address: Cizhong Church Located in Cizhong Village, Deqin County, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province Right by the Lancang River, with the Lancang River scenery all along the way 🚗Transportation: It is best to drive yourself, it can serve as a rest stop between Weixi and Deqin County, just come and take a look 🎫Tickets: The church is free, whether you can enter to visit depends on your luck 💐In March, flowers are blooming everywhere in Yunnan, with peach blossoms, apricot blossoms, and pear blossoms all along the way~

This is not Switzerland! Yunnan's hidden fairyland: Xueda Lake above the mountains

This is not Switzerland! Yunnan's hidden fairyland: Xueda Lake above the mountains

Just like a fairyland✨ I discovered a Tibetan village called 'Shuo Da Village' in Yunnan, which is far beyond my imagination! This village is located on the top of the mountains, with only a dozen households. Their lives are simple and peaceful, raising cattle and farming for a living. What's more amazing is that there is a small lake next to the village, named 'Xueda Lake'❄ This place is the only place in Shangri-La where you can see the reflection of the Meili Peaks, whether it is sunrise or sunset, you can appreciate the golden peaks. When the first ray of morning light shines on the Meili Snow Mountain, the snow pours down on the lake, and this fairyland reveals its true beauty. Now I give you the guide to experience Xueda Lake yourself🗺 Taking advantage of the good autumn and winter weather, I strongly recommend you to take a look at this magnificent place! Departing from Shangri-La, passing through Benzilan, Deqin County, and Foshan Township, the approximately 250-kilometer journey takes 5 hours. The whole journey is asphalt road, so don't worry about the road conditions. However, it should be noted that the section from Foshan Township to Shuo Da Village is relatively narrow, and it is a high winding uphill road with steep cliffs on the outside and the Lancang River below, which is not very friendly to novice drivers. Therefore, I suggest you either drive yourself or charter a car. Once you arrive at Xueda Lake, you can have fun! First of all, don't miss the sunrise over the golden mountain in the early morning. Standing on the high ground of Xueda Lake, you can overlook the entire Meili Peaks and feel the spectacular snow mountain scenery. When the first ray of sunlight shines on the Meili Snow Mountain, the white mountain top seems to be covered with a warm and bright veil, at that moment, you will feel insignificant and become one with nature. In addition to directly appreciating the Meili Peaks, you can also watch the reflection on the calm surface of Xueda Lake. Every morning, the lake is like a perfect mirror, reflecting the whole world, making people feel wonderful. Of course, accommodation is also a problem to consider. You can choose to stay in Shuo Da Village, where there are a dozen households, each with guest rooms. The price is about 600 yuan and above. If you don't want to stay in the village, there are some hotels and restaurants in Foshan Township, with prices around 100 yuan. Finally, here are some suggestions for you: Remember to bring a telephoto camera, so you can get better shooting effects! Since it will be a bit cold in the morning and evening, don't forget to bring a thick coat, hat, and gloves. The sun is strong, so sunscreen is a must! The mountain road is rugged, prepare motion sickness patches! Remember to close the door when entering and leaving the village, and also remember to take your trash with you! This fairyland in Yunnan is waiting for your arrival, hurry up and plan your trip to explore this magical land!💫

Yubeng

Yubeng

Yubeng, hiking. (The so-called 'body in hell, eyes in heaven' Yubeng) Yubeng Village Newbies (who lack exercise in the office every day) are advised to just take the route of the Divine Waterfall + Ice Lake (without climbing the mountain), which is enough. If you do go up the mountain, it's really best not to carry too much—two bottles of water and some snacks (like chocolate) should suffice, as carrying too much is truly unbearable. Pay attention to keeping warm; the hike can be quite challenging for newbies, and it's really cold up there, so wear a good jacket with a liner. The Divine Waterfall takes about 5-6 hours (the path is equipped with steps and stone slabs), while the Ice Lake takes 6-8 hours (the muddy path is even harder to walk on after rain). Yubeng is beautiful, but it's also really dirty, with trash everywhere. Please do not litter and carry your trash with you until you find a bin to dispose of it!! This article is not a guide for newbies, experts please don't criticize

Yubeng | Hiker’s Paradise

If you are looking for a little off road experience and breathtaking views, visit Yubeng in Yunnan. I combined my trip to Yubeng with a visit to Shangrila as both are not too far from each other. There are only 2 ways you can access this small village nestled between mountains ranges. You hike in for 4-6 hours or take an off road Jeep for 20-30mins that takes you through winding paths through the mountains - can be tricky if you are the car sick type. I went in winter - can be quite cold if you are planning to hike and some of the hikes can be quite tough. You need ice crampons. Some of the easier routes are very well marked and harder ones are not. I would go again in spring/summer as I was told the views are completely different and the hiking trails are a little easier. You can also see fields of wildflowers blooming in Spring. #yubengvillage #雨崩 #Yunnan #falltrip #familytrip #trip #instatravel #Hike #云南 #
