Hanzhong Gate | Yulan Magnolia

Hanzhong Gate | Yulan Magnolia

| Yulan Magnolia. The 600-year-old city wall of Hanzhong Gate, adorned with Yulan magnolias, offers a different charm than the glazed beauty of Chaotian Palace. The scenery here is more rustic and mellow. 🌸 The red Yulan magnolias at Hanzhong Gate are 50% in bloom, with the rest still in bud. The white Yulan magnolias have not yet bloomed, possibly due to sunlight. Unlike the magnolias at 1865, which are already half withered, the ones at Hanzhong Gate are expected to last until next weekend.

Hongshan Forest Zoo: Shattering All Your Zoo Stereotypes

Hongshan Forest Zoo: Shattering All Your Zoo Stereotypes

Hidden amidst the lush hills north of Nanjing lies a zoo that defies traditional expectations. As a seasoned visitor who's returned for five years running, let me tell you: Hongshan Forest Zoo isn't an animal prison, but a vibrant animal utopia. Here, there are no rote animal performances, only a thoughtfully constructed paradise for its inhabitants. 【Immersive Exhibits That Tell a Story】 As you wander along the undulating paths, each exhibit unfolds as a captivating spatial narrative. The Asian Primate House, with its two-tiered design, offers glimpses through glass walls of gibbons gracefully swinging through the canopy and golden monkeys grooming each other amidst the rocks. The most striking is the Chinese Felidae House, where, within a network of caves built into the natural hillside, lynxes saunter along cliff edges and leopard cats dart nimbly beside streams. Every turn reveals a new chapter in a live nature documentary. 【Animals Are the Stars of the Show】 The enrichment designs here are nothing short of art. The meerkat exhibit's tunnel system spans the entire sandy enclosure, allowing visitors to observe their bustling social lives through periscopes. Wolf Valley retains its original topography, and across the stream, you can often hear the echoing howls of wolves in a chorus. Most intriguing is the bear house's "blind box feeder." Witnessing a brown bear skillfully maneuvering a tree trunk mechanism with its paws to retrieve hidden fruit elicits cheers from the crowd that rival any magic show. 【A Heartwarming Celebrity Meet-and-Greet】 The panda house is perpetually popular, but the stars here exude a unique tranquility. As "Ping Ping" leisurely munches on bamboo leaves, the audible crunching sounds bring home the true majesty of this national treasure. The koala house offers the warmest interaction, where the sight of furry koalas dozing in eucalyptus trees prompts visitors to instinctively lower their voices. Don't miss the native species conservation area, where a chance encounter with a muntjac deer strolling through the reeds is a truly delightful surprise. 【Unlocking Hidden Gems】 Head straight to the koala house at opening to witness the heartwarming weighing and feeding ritual. The hilltop observation deck next to the tiger enclosure offers breathtaking panoramic city views, often adorned with a sea of clouds on autumn afternoons. Stamp collectors can pick up a special passport at the visitor center and embark on a quest to collect 12 unique stamps throughout the zoo. The AR telescopes at the Gondwana exhibit are highly recommended; scan the vegetation to witness the magical resurrection of ancient creatures in the real-world environment. 【Insider Tips for Travelers】 Arrive before 9:00 am for the best experience, as animals are most active in the morning. Wear comfortable athletic shoes (the zoo is equivalent to three Forbidden Cities in size). Bringing your own lunch is more economical (picnicking on the benches by the lake near the north gate is recommended). Plan for at least 5 hours to explore, as the late afternoon light is ideal for capturing stunning photos in the Tropical Bird House. When you see an elephant skillfully peeling layers of fresh grass with its trunk, or discover an orangutan constructing its own sunshade, you'll suddenly grasp the meaning of the phrase at the zoo's entrance: "Life is not a tool to please humans." This zoo, which rejects animal performances, teaches us reverence for life in the gentlest way. If you're tired of superficial sightseeing, come here and embark on a healing journey filled with meaningful encounters with the natural world.

Must-visit spot in Nanjing: Laomendong

Must-visit spot in Nanjing: Laomendong

Because it is located to the east of Nanjing's southern gate, it is known as 'Men Dong'. The scenic area is free to visit and is one of the must-visit spots in Nanjing. Laomendong has always been a gathering place for the cloud valleys of the south of the Yangtze River, a hub of culture, and a residence for prestigious families. The district has introduced studios, century-old shops, cultural entertainment, etc., on the basis of retaining historical buildings and cultural relics, becoming a cultural district that integrates historical culture, leisure entertainment, and tourist landscapes. There is currently a lantern festival, and it is very beautiful at night, where you can take photos and check in for free.
