Visited once in September, from Shigu Temple up to Shigu Temple down, felt a bit unsatisfying; heard it snowed on Wugong Mountain, so came again in December, this time ascending from Anfu in Ji'an and descending from Yunding in Pingxiang; of course, no snow. Stayed near the Ji'an Tourist Center the day before, and on the day of the hike, I was the first visitor to pass the ticket check. Took the scenic shuttle bus from the Tourist Center for half an hour to the Santianmen Cableway Station, then walked back a few steps to the hiking entrance - the Ancient Official Road. Right from the start, it was a bit intense, with dense and somewhat steep steps, but walking and resting intermittently didn’t feel too tiring. There are over 4,500 steps from Ji'an to the Golden Summit, theoretically easier than the over 10,000 steps from Pingxiang. The first half is all bamboo forest and ancient trees, combined with steps and green handrails, which is quite interesting; after finishing the first half, a large meadow suddenly appears before your eyes, with a solitary pavilion and a few scattered trees in the distance—it's hard to describe the mood without seeing it in person. Going up past the tent camp and Baihe Temple is the Golden Summit, which took two hours and twenty minutes. No need for great physical strength, just walk and rest, and then you arrive. Today the Golden Summit was shrouded in thick fog, but there were very few people, so no need to queue for photos. The weather was kind, with a brief appearance of the sun and a few minutes of sea of clouds, which made it worthwhile. From the Golden Summit towards Diaomazhuang, walk the glass plank road via Diaomazhuang. You can walk beside the glass plank road, so no need to be afraid. Then it’s all wooden plank paths, taking about an hour and a half to reach Guanyin Dang. At this time, you hardly see anyone, only some equipment idling there. There is a tourist center and a supermarket where you can replenish food and drinks. Then head towards the Yunding Scenic Area. A few hundred meters from Guanyin Dang, there is a lone donkey on the hillside (this donkey was also seen at the Golden Summit). The path to Yunding is mostly downhill steps, first passing some distinctive trees, then some strange rocks, followed by several waterfalls, which should be quite nice when the water flow is strong. It takes about three hours from the Golden Summit to the Yunding Scenic Area exit. Going downhill steps is quite tiring, so knee pads and trekking poles are a must, otherwise it will be very sore. At the Yunding Scenic Area exit, there is a free shuttle bus to the Pingxiang Tourist Center, stopping at the Vienna Hotel entrance. Buses to Pingxiang North and Pingxiang Station also stop there; the Yunding shuttle runs every half hour and takes ten minutes. The bus to the train station should also run every half hour, so plan your time well if catching a train. Overall, ascending from Ji'an and descending from Yunding is quite good, with varied scenery along the way. On the Ji'an side: bamboo forest, ancient trees, meadows; on the Yunding side: strange rocks, odd trees, waterfalls. Taking this route to enjoy diverse landscapes is worthwhile.
