It's a bit off the beaten path between Rome and Florence, so it takes about two hours by train from either Rome or Florence. I stayed overnight on my way from Rome to Florence, and arrived in Assisi late in the afternoon, so I wasn't able to see much of the cathedral or other places. Enzo, our bus driver, was excellent, very courteous, and ensured a safe journey. The trip was well-organized, and I wouldn’t change the schedule. The hotels were superb and conveniently located. We especially appreciated the laundromat next to our Florence hotel. With a heat wave comparable to our Florida climate, the pools were a welcome feature. Stephania and the other guides were extremely knowledgeable. My wife and I loved walking through all the cities we visited, with Rome standing out as a particular highlight. It was an outstanding trip, and I absolutely recommend it.

I got to Assisi early in the morning, before the streets became crowded, and just wandered around without much of a plan.
