A New Self-Driving Adventure at Kyushu African Safari 🦁🚗 — traveler post in Usa

A New Self-Driving Adventure at Kyushu African Safari 🦁🚗

Kyushu Natural Animal Park (African Safari) is one of Japan's largest wildlife parks. Nestled in Usa City and surrounded by lush mountains, its expansive grasslands perfectly recreate a wild habitat. It’s teeming with a raw, natural vibe that’s perfect for families and animal lovers alike. Here, you can get up close with lions, giraffes, zebras, and more. You have the freedom to explore at your own pace—either by driving your own car or hopping on the iconic Jungle Bus for an immersive adventure. 🦒🦓 Recommended Route The Jungle Bus: As soon as you arrive, I recommend taking the Jungle Bus through the primary animal zones. The bus stops at specific spots where you can feed the animals yourself. It’s safe, thrilling, and puts you just inches away from the wildlife! 🍖 Self-Driving: The park features a designated driving path where you can observe animals in their natural element from your own vehicle. Just remember: for your safety, never open your windows or step out of the car. 🏎️ Must-Try Experiences · Jungle Bus Feeding Experience: This is the park's highlight! It offers a rare chance to interact directly with lions and giraffes. · Wildlife Watching: Zebras, antelopes, and camels are very active in the grassland areas—ideal for capturing stunning photos. 📸 · Petting Zoo: A great spot for kids to interact with gentler, smaller animals. 🐰 Best Photo Spots · Inside the Jungle Bus: Capture incredible close-ups of lions and giraffes against the backdrop of the rolling plains. · The Main Entrance: Snap your first "I was here" photo at the park's iconic sign. · The Open Grasslands: The natural scenery paired with zebras or camels creates a beautiful, exotic vibe. 🌾 Travel Tips 1. Arrive Early: Animals are most active in the morning. Getting there early also helps you beat the crowds. 2. Book the Jungle Bus in Advance: It gets busy during peak season, so reserve your spot online to avoid disappointment. 3. Safety First for Drivers: Follow all park rules strictly—keep your windows rolled up, stay in your car, maintain a safe distance, and drive slowly. Important Rules · Do not bring outside food to feed the animals. · While on the Jungle Bus, always follow the guide’s instructions. Staff are there to help with the feeding process. Final Thoughts Kyushu Natural Animal Park is the ultimate destination to connect with nature and see wildlife up close. Whether you choose to drive yourself or take the bus, it's a convenient and unforgettable experience for families. You're guaranteed to leave with a gallery full of amazing photos! Next time you’re in Usa, definitely set aside half a day to explore this wild wonder. 🌟

Yusuhara Hachimangu Shrine: A millennium-old shrine deep in an ancient forest — traveler post in Usa

Yusuhara Hachimangu Shrine: A millennium-old shrine deep in an ancient forest

Dedicated to the deity divided from Usa Jingu Shrine and established during the Heian period, Yusuhara Hachimangu Shrine—known as the Ichinomiya (the highest-ranking shrine) of Bungo Province—rests quietly within a deep, ancient forest west of Oita City. Walk slowly up the stone steps of the approach, where towering trees enclose the path, shutting out the noise of the outside world. The Nandaimon Gate features intricate carvings, including decorative kaerumata (frog-leg struts) and openwork carvings of flowers and birds. The dragon motifs and floral designs are incredibly lifelike, while the spaces between the pillars are adorned with carvings depicting the Twenty-four Filial Exemplars and Yamato Takeru. Because the interplay of light and shadow is so captivating that visitors often linger until dusk, it is known as the "Higurashi-no-mon" (Sunset Gate). Standing within the grounds is a giant camphor tree estimated to be 3,000 years old, its gnarled branches piercing the sky; it is a protected natural monument. The precious Hachiman-zukuri style main hall is solemn and majestic, and over ten of the shrine's buildings are designated as Important Cultural Properties. Step over the fan-shaped lucky stone and offer a sincere prayer. There are no noisy crowds here—only the breeze through the trees, the singing of birds, and the scent of ancient wood. Stepping into this sacred realm, time seems to slow down, allowing you to feel the spiritual atmosphere of Kyushu, which has been accumulating for a millennium, amidst the thousand-year-old wooden structures and lush greenery.

Review: Oita Prefectural Museum of History — Journey Through Time and Marvel at Stunning Buddhist Art Replicas in Usa

If you're looking for a relaxed destination that offers a mix of history, unique photography spots, and grand indoor beauty in Oita Prefecture, Kyushu, look no further than the "Oita Prefectural Museum of History" (大分県立歴史博物館) in Usa City. This museum turns its expansive exhibition halls into a cultural treasure trove, featuring stunning, life-sized replicas of National Treasure architecture. From the radiant golden hall of Fukiji Temple to the recreated cliffs of the Usuki Stone Buddhas, the exhibits stretch alongside displays of ancient artifacts and legendary giant masks. The level of detail is truly exquisite, offering a visually soothing and deeply relaxing experience. Masterpiece Check-in Points and Photo Ops: · Fukiji Temple Hall Replica and the Golden Amida Buddha: A quintessential photo spot. Capturing the view at eye level through the Chinese-style doors reveals the golden Buddha figure adorned with an intricate halo. The indoor lighting accentuates the round wooden pillars and their vibrant, pastel-toned paintings, making for a truly luxurious shot from your trip. · Usuki Stone Buddha Cliffs and the Ancient Giant Mask Collection: A perfect spot for "slow-life" portrait lovers. The steep sandstone cliff replicas stand alongside ancient artifact displays. The back wall features a striking collection of hand-carved wooden giant masks in bold reds and pastel blacks, illuminated by dramatic lighting that creates a chic, street-travel aesthetic. 💡 Essential Info and Travel Tips: · A Hub of Mahayana Buddhist Culture and the Sacred Usa Jingu: Located near the famous Usa Jingu Shrine, this museum highlights the unique "Shinbutsu-shugo" culture—the fusion of Shinto and Buddhist beliefs—found on the Kunisaki Peninsula. The facility is clean, well-maintained, and climate-controlled, ensuring a comfortable and visually refreshing visit in any season. · Tips: Since the indoor exhibition is well-lit with soft, warm light throughout the day, we recommend wearing comfortable sneakers. For the best photos, opt for light-colored or neutral outfits, such as cream or pastel tones. These colors will make you stand out beautifully against the classic dark wood of the architecture and the grey stone textures of the cliff replicas.

Hells of Beppu

Having previously visited Iceland, I found the Hells of Beppu quite underwhelming. It had more of a theme park vibe rather than natural beauty. We bought the combined ticket to visit all 7 hells and out of all of them, for me, only Umi Jigoku was wow. I was most disappointed with they geyser at Tatsumaki Jigoku (tornado hell). The top of it has a stone mantle so it doesn’t shoot up very high. The entrance price is very reasonable and savings to be had when buying the combined ticket. You need cash to buy any snacks or drinks in the hells (no suica or other cards accepted). I can recommend the steamed sweet potato cakes and the sweet potato ice cream. We visited ourselves by local bus (very easy) rather than a tour but found the directions for some of the hells not very clear or obvious. There were also free hot spring foot baths in a couple of the hells which was lovely after a lot of walking. An interesting place to visit but not what I expected based on articles I’d read beforehand.

There's a direct bus from Oita Airport to the park, but it only runs once a day in the morning. It was so hot that we only went on a few rides before leaving. The rides were okay, but they were geared towards younger children. We also had lunch there.
