Eez62: This hotel has one of the friendliest reception desk. The elderly uncle manning the front desk was most helpful. When we came back late one night and when the carpark was full. He helped arrange for us to park at the station carpark with no additional costs. And he patiently guided us to the location with a hand drawn map. The local breakfast provided was much enjoyed. Simple fare but it was filling. And it was actually quite enjoyable. Enclosed pictures of our local Japanese breakfast over the 2 days that we stayed in the hotel. The hotel is also within walking distance to the train station. And under the train station there's a supermarket which use super convenient to grab some grocery items for the stay.

GGuest User: Worth for every JPY you've spent!! This is the best hotel for my trip. The location is just 30 sec. from the train station and bus stop, connected with the main street, and very close with the convenient store. The hotel style is so gorgeous, perfect combination between the traditional Japanese house and modern facilities. Completely clean and good smell since the front door. Peaceful, relax, and private. The Onsen are so nice and clean. And, yes! The food (both breakfast and dinner) are soooooo good!! I'm so happy with this hotel. Fulfill my trip with the good memories.

GGuest User: Business hotels in Japan are well known to be small so i wasn’t surprised at the size. Its acceptable for me since i will be utilising it for sleep only. Its literally next to Beppu station so commuting was extremely convenient. The amenities are good too and everything is clean. I had a pleasant stay. Most importantly its very affordable!

GGuest User: This hotel is very convenient if you are taking bus from Hakata Bus Terminal. It stopped right in front of the hotel. Inside the hotel, it has tourist information counter where tourists can buy bus pass etc. Room and toilet are small and is common in Japan, but they are clean and stay is comfortable. They have 1 indoor and outdoor onsen. Opposite the hotel is a departmental store and is 10 mins walk to Beppu train station. Beppu tower is just a short distance walk from hotel. If you are taking a bus to Yifuin, bus stop 1 is just nearby, opposite direction of hotel. I will recommend this hotel if you are coming to Beppu.

On the expensive side but it’s definitely worth the experience to try it for one night at least. Huge room with a beautiful tatami flooring and traditional dining table, private bath with a beautiful sea view. Also has a smart tv for you to just chill and enjoy in the room. You can also still use the public onsen and breakfast provided was delicious! Overall 10/10 will recommend it was amazing !

Want to eat like a local? Don't miss out on these top Beppu dishes and foodie spots.

Looking across the rooftops of the Kannawa district, plumes of white steam drift up from every direction. It’s a sight that leaves you wondering... what exactly lies beneath Beppu? 💛 🌋 The answer lies in the earth's heat Groundwater is heated by volcanic systems deep underground before surfacing as hot springs and steam. That white mist you see? It’s created when hot steam hits the air, cooling and condensing into tiny droplets. In Kannawa, this heat is woven into the fabric of daily life—used for bathing, steam baths, and even cooking. Exploring this town gives you a perspective on onsen culture that goes far beyond just taking a soak. 🌿 ♨️ Beautiful ponds, but not for swimming The famous "Jigoku Meguri" (Hell Circuit) features stunning spots like the cobalt-blue Umi Jigoku and the blood-red Chinoike Jigoku. These are for sightseeing only. If you’re looking to bathe, head to a designated public onsen and be sure to follow the local etiquette. 🧺 When steam becomes your kitchen "Jigokumushi" is a traditional method of cooking food using natural geothermal steam. You can steam vegetables, eggs, and other local ingredients. Pro tip: Check the wait times, costs, and whether you can bring your own food before you go, and always follow the staff's guidance. 🚃 Getting to Beppu From Fukuoka, catch the Limited Express Sonic from Hakata Station to JR Beppu (approx. 2 hours). If you’re arriving at Oita Airport, take the airport express bus directly into the city and get off at the stop closest to your hotel. 🚌 From the city to Kannawa From the West Exit of JR Beppu Station, hop on a bus bound for Kannawa or Umi-Jigokumae. Make sure to check the routes and return schedules. Since the "Hells" are spread out, it’s best to group your visits by zone and allow time for bus transfers. Try a relaxed itinerary: Start with a tour of the Hell ponds → Wander through the historic Kannawa district → Enjoy a "Jigokumushi" steamed meal → End your day with a relaxing soak in a local onsen. Save this for your next Kyushu adventure if you’re looking for fascinating history, steamy views, and a warm, soul-soothing meal all in one day! ☁️💛

After a satisfying lunch in Yufuin, Day 2 Afternoon began 😁... We traveled across town to Beppu to visit Beppu Jigoku (Hells of Beppu), arguably one of the largest and most stunning hot springs in Japan. It draws a massive crowd of tourists, especially Thais. ⛲️ ❤️ We wrapped up with dinner at a restaurant we originally wanted to try for lunch at Yufuin Floral Village, but it was just too crowded. So, we went to another branch near Yufuin Station instead: Yufu Mabushi "Shin" Yufuin. They serve hearty Japanese-style clay pot rice loaded with side dishes, chicken, beef, and Japanese eel. Let me tell you, it's absolutely filling. Huge bowls, packed with flavor! 📍 🐟 Headed back to our accommodation to prepare for checkout and our trip to Kumamoto the next day. This quick 3D2N getaway to Aso, Takachiho Gorge and Kumamoto was an epic chunk of our 12-day Kyushu road trip—seriously, so much beauty packed into so little time! Here’s how it went down: Day 1 We hit the road from Beppu and rolled into Aso, Kyushu’s volcanic hotspot. First stop: Daikanbo lookout 🌄 (Yamada, Aso, Kumamoto 869-2313, open 24 hours). The view? Absolutely mind-blowing—think endless mountain panoramas and cloud-surfing vibes! After soaking it in, we checked in to our cozy homebase for the night: Aso Hakuun Sanso (Kurokawa, Aso, Kumamoto 869-2225). The onsens here are sooo good and the whole place just screams “relax mode on.” Day 2 Adventure mode: ON. We set off for the Insta-famous Takachiho Gorge (Mitarai, Takachiho, Nishiusuki District, Miyazaki 882-1101, open daily 8:30am–5pm, boat rental available). The drive took about an hour—hello, road trip playlists!—and wow, this spot is unreal. Think steep cliffs, crystal-clear rivers, and rowboats gliding under waterfalls. After our nature fix, we headed back to Aso and stopped at Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine (Shirakawa, Takamori, Aso, Kumamoto 869-1602, open 24/7). This mystical hillside shrine is pure Studio Ghibli vibes, with mossy stone lanterns and a magical forest setting—seriously, don’t miss it! Day 3 For our last morning in Aso, we explored Kusasenrigahama (Kusasenri, Aso, Kumamoto), epic grasslands with insane views of Mt. Aso’s massive caldera. Such a chill spot—totally felt like we were in a fantasy movie. Coffee break? Yes please! We recharged at Kusasenri Coffee Roastery (808-5 Kurokawa, Aso, Kumamoto 869-2225), which serves up dreamy brews and killer volcano views. Back on the road, but before heading to Kumamoto city, we HAD to snap pics at the One Piece Nico Robin statue and check out the Kumamoto Earthquake Museum KIOKU (2-3 Koyaimamachi, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto 862-0956, open Tue–Sun 9am–5pm). Learning more about the city’s resilience was super inspiring. When we finally reached Kumamoto, we couldn’t leave without meeting the One Piece Luffy statue (52-1 Honmaru, Chuo Ward, Kumamoto 860-0002)—because #otakulife . Stay tuned for our next kyushu adventures—this Kyushu trip just keeps getting better! 😍

Not every beautiful travel moment is busy. Some of the best ones are almost silent. Our stay at Kai Beppu gave us all the things I always hope for on a trip - comforting food, a beautiful onsen, and the kind of atmosphere that helps everyone slow down a little. @hoshinoresorts.kai really has a way of making a stay feel thoughtful without trying too hard. But the part I keep replaying in my mind is sunrise. Early morning air, the weight of the camera in my hands, and that stillness that only exists before the day begins. Me, my GFX100S II, and a horizon quietly waking up. It felt small and infinite at the same time. #福岡行程

Just returned from a 6-day trip to Kyushu — it was so much fun and totally worth it! We started by landing in Fukuoka and driving to Beppu — took the ropeway for scenic views, strolled around Dazaifu Shrine, and relaxed in an onsen ♨️. Next, we headed to Yufuin — a charming village with flowers and cute cafes, plus photo spots inspired by Totoro/Ghibli 📸. Then, we went up to Aso — drove along the stunning Milk Road with breathtaking mountain views and visited the volcanic crater (amazing if the weather is good) ⛰️. In Kumamoto, we couldn’t miss Kumamoto Castle and enjoyed walking around the city, which had a cozy Christmas Market 🎄. We wrapped up the trip by returning to Fukuoka — stopped by TeamLab Art before flying back to Bangkok ✨. Highly recommend renting a car for convenience (we used Nippon Rent-A-Car) and allowing extra travel time to visit many scenic spots.

My first time was absolutely amazing ✨🌸🤭 This was a true cherry blossom hunting trip. We went from March 26 to April 2. Here are the photos updated day by day. The first few days were a bit slow because of the unpredictable weather, so some blossoms were still buds. But towards the end, the flowers were in full bloom. It was heartwarming, I loved it so much~ · Dazaifu · Beppu Park · Umi Jigoku Hot Spring · Sakai River Beppu Riverside · Yufuin (Oita Riverside) · Kumamoto Castle · Suizenji Jojuen · Mojiko Retro · Maizura Park · Uminonakamichi Seaside · Ippon Matsukawa Ryokudou · Nishi Park · Tenjin Central Park Anyone visiting after this will definitely be amazed · ———————— #fukuoka #kyushu #japan #japantravelreview #cherryblossom #journeycallsofficial #discountwithoutluck
Having previously visited Iceland, I found the Hells of Beppu quite underwhelming. It had more of a theme park vibe rather than natural beauty. We bought the combined ticket to visit all 7 hells and out of all of them, for me, only Umi Jigoku was wow. I was most disappointed with they geyser at Tatsumaki Jigoku (tornado hell). The top of it has a stone mantle so it doesn’t shoot up very high. The entrance price is very reasonable and savings to be had when buying the combined ticket. You need cash to buy any snacks or drinks in the hells (no suica or other cards accepted). I can recommend the steamed sweet potato cakes and the sweet potato ice cream. We visited ourselves by local bus (very easy) rather than a tour but found the directions for some of the hells not very clear or obvious. There were also free hot spring foot baths in a couple of the hells which was lovely after a lot of walking. An interesting place to visit but not what I expected based on articles I’d read beforehand.
CalistravellingThis place specially becomes my favorite aquarium I ever been! Love to closing with the animal, and first time touching rays here 🫶🏻 the view and atmosphere are great!
GIVNAPI highly recommend it! Yufuin is a small hot spring town about two hours from Fukuoka. Stay at a ryokan, take a warm hot spring bath, and enjoy delicious kaiseki and breakfast~
kykr96There's a direct bus from Oita Airport to the park, but it only runs once a day in the morning. It was so hot that we only went on a few rides before leaving. The rides were okay, but they were geared towards younger children. We also had lunch there.
G.i.n1314It is a very beautiful town that is integrated with nature🥰🥰 Take a walk by Lake Kinrin while looking at the Yufuin Mountains. Then eat the famous local half-cooked cheesecake Very leisurely and a good place to travel with the whole family🥰🥰
Red tearinteresting first time been there many steams coming out from the hotpot nearby attractions are good as there are choices to choose
_TI***j0The entire train journey took a little over two hours. The section from Yufuin to Kurume featured typical Japanese countryside scenery, which was quite pleasant. The so-called waterfalls online were actually quite small (perhaps I misunderstood the train announcements). The train announced some scenic spots, though only in Japanese and English. The onboard interaction was also quite pleasant. The attendants explained which carriages had what, and you could even wear the train attendant uniforms and take photos. Finally, just before arriving in Hakata, they distributed candy printed in the train's iconic colors.
川流不息1980Kamado Jigoku is about a 5-minute walk from Umi Jigoku and Onishibozu Jigoku. Multiple hot springs are separated into blocks, and experience corners such as "drinkable hot springs" and "steam baths" are unique to this place. Next to the shop and eat-in space where you can eat soy sauce pudding and hot spring century eggs, there is also a foot bath. It is a little crowded, but eating and drinking are prohibited in the foot bath area and there is a good turnover, so you can get in quickly. Towels are also available for free rental (other Jigoku are generally purchased for 200 yen). We recommend visiting after Umi Jigoku.
CKRNBased on Trip.com user data, Recommended sightseeing time: 2–3 day(s), allowing you to cover the main attractions while enjoying shopping, dining, and other experiences.
