The moment you order, a chef fires up a blazing wok, and for the next fifteen minutes, you're held captive—watching, smelling, and waiting impatiently as the chicken sizzles and glazes to perfection. Time seems to slow down when you're hungry, and every flip of the wok only deepens the craving. But when that steaming plate finally lands on your table, all the impatience melts away. The chicken is tender, smoky, and absolutely delicious. What truly caught us off guard, though, was the side of dough that came with it. Soft, warm, and slightly blistered, it tasted wonderfully similar to naan—chewy and rich, perfect for sopping up every last drop of sauce. Together, the theatrical cooking, the succulent chicken, and that unexpectedly delightful naan-like bread turn a simple meal into something genuinely memorable. Iron Wok Saga isn’t just dinner; it’s a show you can eat.

Kumusta 🇵🇭 As a child, I once read a story about Filipino healers that stayed in my memory forever. Later, I heard stories about people from all over the world traveling to the Philippines searching for love, a new life, or simply a different atmosphere. Back then, I could barely find the country on a map. Today, I truly love it despite all its imperfections and contrasts. The greatest value of the Philippines is its people. The kindness, openness, and positivity of Filipinos can genuinely be an example for many others. Since my first trip in November 2024, and after relocating to Kuala Lumpur shortly afterward, I have already visited the Philippines nine times. And I hope many more trips are still ahead. Most of my trips are now on the Kuala Lumpur–Cebu route after flights resumed in late 2025, although there are many daily flights to Manila as well. The flight takes around 3.5 hours depending on weather and landing conditions. I usually fly with AirAsia because prices are often very affordable, especially without checked baggage. But there is one important detail: at Kuala Lumpur Terminal 2, carry-on luggage is weighed before document control, and staff can be quite strict even with small excess weight. Experienced travelers probably already know how to deal with that. Before arrival, travelers need to complete the eTravel form within 3 days before departure using the official website or app. After registration, you receive a QR code that should be saved or screenshotted. Citizens of many countries can enter visa-free for up to 30 days, although there are exceptions, so always check official immigration information before flying. A return or onward ticket is important because airlines and immigration officers may ask for it. From my experience, the more Philippine stamps I had in my passport, the fewer questions immigration officers asked. During my latest arrival, I was not asked anything at all. Usually the questions are very basic: purpose of visit, length of stay, hotel, and return ticket. For transportation, I actively use Grab for both taxis and food delivery. Public transport infrastructure is relatively limited in many places, so Grab is often the easiest and most comfortable option while still remaining affordable. Cash is important because cards are not accepted everywhere. Interestingly, exchange rates at Manila airport can actually be quite good, while Cebu airport rates are usually less favorable. For domestic flights, I personally experienced several delays and cancellations with Cebu Pacific and Cebgo, so whenever possible I prefer Philippine Airlines or AirAsia. For me, the Philippines means sunshine, islands, beautiful nature, and some of the warmest and friendliest people I have ever met. Although I missed the MassKara Festival in October, the City of Smiles still beckoned, so I decided to visit. Bacolod City doesn't have many attractions within the city itself, just a few churches and museums, but the ruins on the outskirts are famous far and wide. If you hurry, you can see it all in one day. 🏞Itinerary: San Sebastian Cathedral—Bacolod Old City Hall—The Ruins 🕰Morning: 1️⃣ San Sebastian Cathedral This medieval church ⛪ is right behind the accommodations. The main structure is built with coral stones from Guimaras Island. 👉The coral stone exterior walls in the sunlight and the Baroque dome are unique. It is said that there is a saint's festival in January. 💡Tip: This is not a tourist-style church, so please be quiet during your visit. You can experience the local religious culture during mass.⛪ 💰Admission: Free! 📍Address: Rizal St., Bacolod City (10 mins walk from the city center) ⏰Opening hours: Monday–Saturday 6:00–19:00 / Sunday 5:00–20:30 2️⃣ Bacolod Old City Hall This Spanish colonial building, completed in the 1880s, once served as the mayor's office. During World War II, to prevent the Japanese army from occupying it, the manor was burned for three days, leaving only the skeleton. 🌟If you have time, count whether there are 10 bedrooms. The concrete building has a marble-like sheen, and the shell decorations are a tribute to his father-in-law, a sea captain. The initials "Ms" are hidden in the carvings on the pillars, a poignant detail!! 📍Tips: The sunset through the ruins is especially picturesque. For so many decades, the original Chicken Deli started at Lacson Street cor 8th street, Bacolod City , Negros Occidental in 1983. I ordered the famous INASAL-savory, smoky, peppery and citrus flavored chicken legs marinated and charcoal grilled, with unlimited rice. In short, chicken barbecue with unlimited rice. I am travelling from the sea port of Iloilo City to BREDCO Port in Bacolod City via Ocean Jet fast craft . The estimated travel time is one hour to one hour and thirty minutes. The distance between iloilo and bacolod is 42 kms. The tickets fare depends on the accomodation- open air for 550php, tourist class for 550php amd business class for 800php. I have been to Mambukal Mountain Resort several times in Murcia, Negros Occidental. It is 32 kms away from Bacolod City. For the first time, I decided with my family to spend overnight to enjoy the wondrous nature inherent to the place. There are many things to enjoy in this resort like boating in the man made lagoon, camping, ziplining, trekking to the water falls and most of all, swimming at the hot spring which gives therapy to our tired bodies. With regards to the accomodation, I decided to choose the Family Cottage good for 8-12 people, with 2 spacious rooms, big kitchen, dining area and sala. Overnight rate is 4,000 php. At the entrance, I paid 50php for each tickets. By the way, there is no restaurant inside. Just bring your own kitchen needs and food for your own cooking. As I passed by Capitol Shopping Center, Hilado St., Brgy Villamonte, Bacolod City, I found a youth group on their dragon dance that will drive away evil spirits and ushers good luck for the family. The Ruins Mansion is the remains of an ancestral home built in 1920 by a wealthy sugar baron named Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson. Don Mariano constructed the mansion as a testament of his love for his wife, Cora Maria Osorio Rosa-Braga. I bet he didn’t foresee that it would be intentionally burned down later on. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have made it so intricately beautiful. Not that I’m complaining. “The Ruins” is just beyond beautiful. While browsing photos of tourist spots in Metro Bacolod online, this was one of the first things to catch our attention. There was something fascinating about this naked concrete structure bathing in the dwindling sunlight. While planning for this trip, we swore we would try to visit it at dusk. And we made it. We were welcomed by the staff of the Ruins. Upon seeing our backpacks, they realized we came straight from the airport. One of the guys even joked, “Sir, hindi po hotel ‘to.” It was a good way to start a conversation. They were very accommodating. They even advised us to leave our backpacks at their station coz it was drizzling and they wanted us to be comfortable. I was so enticed with this korean food adventure with kimchi, seasoned soybean sprouts, spinach, spicy cucumber salad and fish cake as side dishes. More so, the lettuce wrapping for meat was served with the meat like Dae-pae, Beef samgyupsal, Buljib ready for grilling. I always hear about the Ruins in Talisay, Negros Occidental. Just in time, I arrived in Silay airport. Then I hired a taxi and about 20 minutes I reached my destination. I paid an entrance and a guide explained to me about the Ruins. According to the guide, it was built by Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson in honor of her love for Maria Braga who died when she was pregnant on her 11th child.
