Coastal Vistas from the Bluff
A walk out to the bluff offers sweeping views of Puget Sound and the snow-capped Olympic Mountains in the distance. The crisp, salt-tinged air of early 2026 is incredibly invigorating, providing a "lung-cleansing" experience that feels like a literal fresh start.
• Offers frequent sightings of bald eagles and marine life along the coastline.
• Features a rugged, naturalistic trail that contrasts with the formal gardens.

Architectural Grandeur at the French Estate House
The historic Bloedel residence, designed in the 18th-century French country style, looks magnificent against the winter sky. In January, the house often hosts intimate cultural events or educational displays. For your #hellonewyear visit, it serves as a reminder of the human ability to create lasting beauty in harmony with the environment.
• Houses a small library and interpretive displays about the reserve's history.
• Provides expansive views of the meadow and the Sound from its grand terrace.

The Moss Garden: A Verdant Winter Carpet
While most gardens are dormant in January, the Moss Garden is at its peak vibrancy. The damp Northwest winter makes the soft, undulating mounds of moss glow with an almost neon-green intensity. Walking the soft paths here feels like stepping onto a living velvet carpet, providing a unique sensory "reset" for the senses.
• Contains one of the largest and most diverse moss collections in the United States.
• Provides a lush, green backdrop for photography during the greyest months of the year.

Winter Zen in the Japanese Garden
The Japanese Garden at Bloedel is particularly evocative during the winter months. The lack of blooming flowers highlights the masterful "sculpting" of the pines and the intricate patterns raked into the sand of the Zen garden. For #hellonewyear, it represents the beauty of discipline and the elegance of simplicity.
• Showcases a stunning collection of laceleaf maples that reveal their sculptural branches in winter.
• Includes a restored guest house that offers a warm, dry vantage point to admire the landscape.

The Reflection Pool is the spiritual heart of the reserve and a must-visit for New Year goal-setting. Surrounded by towering hedges and perfectly still water, it provides a "blank canvas" for your thoughts. In January, the low winter light creates long, dramatic reflections of the surrounding trees, offering a serene atmosphere for quiet contemplation.
• Features a minimalist design that encourages meditation and focus.
• Offers a sheltered, wind-free environment even on blustery winter days.

Waterfront
Waterfront Serenity at Eagle Harbor Park 🌊🌧️
Nestled on Bainbridge Island, Eagle Harbor Park is your go-to escape for misty mornings, tranquil harbor vibes, and unbeatable waterfront strolls. Cute shops and cozy grocery stores are steps away—making this a perfect all-day chill spot even when it’s cloudy or rainy.
🗺️ Recommended Route & Experiences:
Start your walk at the park entrance on Bjune Dr SE. Wander along the shoreline, where rain-speckled rivers, lakes, and tree-lined paths add to the peaceful scenery. The harbor’s gentle vibe begs for a slow stroll, so take your time and soak in the views.
📸 Insta-worthy Angles:
Snap cloudy reflections over the water from dockside benches—the raindrops on the rivers and ponds make for magical, moody photos. Look for the clusters of other trees by the water’s edge for that perfect misty Pacific Northwest shot.
🛍️ Local Tips:
Everything’s within walking distance! Grab a warm drink or snack from nearby shops before heading to the park—perfect for enjoying under covered picnic spots or while watching boats drift by. A grocery store nearby is handy if you want picnic supplies.
💡 Key Precautions:
Bring a lightweight rain jacket or umbrella (the local weather loves to switch up—trust me, drizzle can come and go!). Footpaths can get slick when wet, so wear non-slip shoes. Restrooms are limited, so plan ahead if you’re staying long.

Yesterday,
Yesterday, we took the Bainbridge ferry to Seattle — about $20 for one car and three passengers, which felt like a great deal for such a memorable journey. After boarding and parking the car on the lower level, we went up to the top deck. The fresh sea breeze, open sky, and panoramic views were incredible. As the ferry glided across the water, we watched the Seattle skyline gradually come into view — the Space Needle, downtown buildings, and Mount Rainier faintly in the background. It was peaceful yet exciting, and offered a unique perspective of the city that you just can't get from driving in. Highly recommend this ferry ride for anyone visiting the area — it's more than just transportation; it's part of the adventure.

bainbridge island ferry
bainbridge island ferry in one day with my husband and friends. We drove our car on the ferry and yes you need to pay the ticket at the booth. They will ask you how many people in the car. Save the ticket so when you return you don’t pay the full price.
Nice weather. But nothing to look around actually. Restaurants price a bit too high. I think it is good place to chill but if you wanna sightsee and look around probably not that interesting.
