Road conditions: June is rainy season, landslides may occur on Highway 318, check road conditions before departure 💬 Blogger’s Honest Thoughts Having traveled Highway 318 many times, I always stop for two days at Ranwu because Ranwu Lake is just too beautiful. In June, the lake water is as blue as a gem, paired with distant snow mountains, any photo looks like a Windows desktop. Laigu Glacier is truly breathtaking. Standing at the foot of the glacier, looking at the huge blue ice tongue, you feel the smallness of humans and the greatness of nature. Hiking on the glacier, listening to the sound of melting ice, the feeling is truly magical. June is the perfect time to visit Ranwu, with comfortable temperatures, not too hot or cold, and fewer tourists than summer vacation. The lake water is at its bluest of the year, and the glacier hasn’t fully melted yet. If you travel Highway 318, be sure to stay two days at Ranwu, don’t just pass through. Here, you will see the most beautiful lake scenery in Eastern Tibet, touch glaciers millions of years old, and experience the most authentic Tibetan life. Ranwu is worth a special visit. --- Accommodation 🏨 Songtsam Laigu Mountain Residence At 4200 meters altitude, currently the highest Songtsam hotel, the entire hotel is embedded on a cliff facing the glacier, surrounded by snow mountains, with 24-hour oxygen supply, the pinnacle of Tibetan wild luxury 🏨 Hushan No.1 Villa Opening in 2025, beside Ranwu Lake and facing the mountains, 24-hour constant temperature heating, rooms with independent diffused oxygen supply, window views of green mountains and lake water 🏨 Pingcuo Kang Sang Basu Ranwu Lake Oxygen-rich Hotel Four-star accommodation in Basu, with a super high rating of 9.6, excellent quality and value, complete oxygen system, attentive service, a comfortable haven on Highway 318 🏨 Basu Ranwu International Self-driving RV Camping Site By Ranwu Lake, beautiful environment, starry sky rooms + high-altitude viewing platform, full charging stations, coffee shop and bar facilities, an excellent choice for self-driving camping

The rain stopped in the early morning. Pushing open the wooden window of the inn, a cool breeze hit my face—not the kind of bone-chilling cold, but a fresh, moist chill carrying the scent of earth and pine needles, like biting into a green apple just taken out of the fridge. Ranwu Lake lay outside in the morning light, still not fully awake. The water surface was unbelievably calm. The rain had washed everything clean—the distant snow-capped mountains looked whiter, the nearby coniferous forest greener, and even the sky had changed from gray to a soft blue. A thin layer of mist floated on the lake, moving slowly along the water’s surface, as if someone was gently lifting a blanket. I walked to the lakeshore, and the water droplets on the grass wet the tips of my shoes. The lake water was milky green; after the rain, Ranwu Lake was clearer than usual, allowing me to see stones several meters deep beneath the surface. A few wild ducks swam over from the opposite shore, trailing long V-shaped ripples that shattered the reflection of the snow mountains, then pieced it back together. I crouched down to look at a blade of grass. Five or six water droplets hung on the leaf, each round and transparent like tiny lenses. Looking closer—the droplets reflected the snow mountain, complete, small, and edged with gold. I reached out and gently touched the leaf. The droplets rolled off, falling into a puddle with a soft “tap.” Standing up, I walked along the lakeside for a while. The air carried a unique sweetness after the rain, a mix of pine resin and wet earth. Taking a deep breath, the coolness reached my lungs, opening all my pores. In the distance, the Laigu Glacier shimmered blue through gaps in the clouds; they say that blue is the color formed after millions of years of ice compression. Back at the inn, the landlady was hanging sheets in the yard. The white sheets billowed in the breeze like sails. “The weather is good today,” she smiled, “you can see the whole snow mountain.” I held a cup of butter tea and sat under the porch. The salty aroma of the hot tea mixed with the fresh post-rain air, creating an indescribable comfort. The thin mist on the lake was dissipating, and the snow mountain gradually revealed its full form. No need to visit any tourist spots. Sitting by Ranwu Lake, watching the mist clear, the clouds part, and the snow mountain reflected in the water droplets is enough to fill the whole morning. This rain seemed to have fallen just for me. It washed Ranwu Lake clean, waiting for me to come and see it.

Sisters, I’m willing to call Ranwu Lake the "masterpiece" of National Highway 318! The lake’s blue is unreal, and the reflection of the snow-capped mountains feels like stepping into a painting. Please keep this firsthand travel guide~ 🌍【Location】 Ranwu Lake is in Baxoi County, Chamdo, Tibet, at an altitude of 3,850 meters. It is the source of the Palongzangbu River, a tributary of the Yarlung Tsangpo River. Formed by a landslide, it stretches over 20 kilometers, surrounded on all sides by snow-capped mountains, looking like another world. ✨【Three Must-See Spots】 1️⃣ Upper Ranwu Viewing Platform Be sure to get there before sunrise! Morning mist floats over the lake, and the Lhagu Glacier is perfectly reflected in the water. Using a telephoto lens, every shot looks like a masterpiece. 2️⃣ Middle Ranwu Pasture A place where Tibetan herders graze their cattle and sheep, very healing. In November, the golden grass contrasts beautifully with the deep blue lake, making every casual photo stunning. 3️⃣ Lower Ranwu Secret Spot Navigate to "Kangsha Village," then walk about 20 minutes along a dirt road to find a little-known viewing spot. The whole lake is quiet and all yours. 🚗【Transportation】 Recommended route: Nyingchi → Bomi → Ranwu, about 6 hours by car. It’s best to rent a car or drive yourself. The road conditions on National Highway 318 are good, but prepare snow chains for November. 🏡【Where to Stay】 Stay at a Tibetan-style guesthouse by the lake for the full experience! I stayed at "Ranwu Lakeside Home," with windows facing the snow mountains. You can see the golden sunlight on the peaks as soon as you open your eyes in the morning. Only about 150 RMB per person. 🍵【What to Eat】 Tibetan yak meat hotpot is a must! Paired with butter tea and barley cakes, it warms you up and helps with altitude sickness. The town’s "Ama Kitchen" serves authentic Tibetan food. 📅【3-Day Itinerary】 Day 1: Arrive at Ranwu → Upper Ranwu Viewing Platform → Stay by the lake Day 2: Hike at Middle Ranwu Pasture → Lower Ranwu Secret Spot → Experience a Tibetan family visit Day 3: Lhagu Glacier day trip (adjust based on your energy) 💡【Tips】 Big temperature difference between morning and night in November, don’t forget your down jacket and thermal underwear The plateau is so dry it’s unbelievable, bring lip balm and moisturizer Carry some glucose oral solution for emergencies with altitude sickness Always ask before taking photos, don’t randomly shoot Tibetan people or prayer flags Standing by Ranwu Lake, watching the snow mountains sink into the crystal-clear blue water, I felt completely calm. No crowds, just the purest beauty between heaven and earth. Before the heavy winter snow closes the roads, hurry and experience this visual feast!

🚗 One of the most frequently asked questions about coming to Lhasa is whether you will suffer from altitude sickness. This is also why many friends hesitate to visit Tibet. Are taking Altitude Sickness Pills or Rhodiola effective? About altitude sickness: 🚗 Lhasa is at an altitude of 3,650 meters. For friends coming from low-altitude southern cities, it is unrealistic not to experience some altitude sickness upon arrival. The body needs an adaptation period of about 3-5 days. It is not recommended to engage in strenuous exercise on the day you arrive. Sister Yingzi suggests resting quietly in the hotel (it is recommended to choose a hotel with diffuse oxygen supply). Avoid overeating and drinking alcohol on the first day. ⚠️ About 💊: Rhodiola and Altitude Sickness Pills are basically a scam. If you have a headache upon arrival and have trouble sleeping that night, it is recommended to have glucose, An S brain tonic, and Xin Nao Xin tablets on hand to help relieve insomnia and headaches. Getting enough sleep can greatly alleviate altitude sickness. If you experience vomiting or chest tightness, please seek medical attention promptly. Nearby clinics have effective treatments for altitude sickness, so there is no need to panic. ⚠️ About the itinerary: For people around 60 years old with enough time, it is better to land in Nyingchi. Nyingchi is at about 3,000 meters altitude, with lush vegetation and higher oxygen content, making it easier to adapt to altitude sickness. Overweight friends should be more cautious. Children generally do not have major issues. During the trip, we usually prepare a 10-liter medical oxygen tank, which can provide continuous nasal oxygen for about 10 hours. 👉【Itinerary】: 🧡D1: Pick up at Nyingchi Airport — Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon — Suosong Village 🧡D2: Namcha Barwa Peak — Yani Wetland — Alpine Pasture Afternoon Tea — Lulang Town 🧡D3: Guxiang Lake — Bomi Peach Blossom Valley Loop — Bomi 🧡D4: Blue Tears · Ranwu Lake — Lhagba Glacier 🧡D5: Bomi — Gang Yun Spruce Forest — Gala Peach Blossom Village — Nyingchi 🧡D6: Nyingchi — Lhasa Beautiful Lhasa welcomes everyone! I hope Sister Yingzi’s notes can help you. Wishing everyone a pleasant journey!

The "wildest route" in Eastern Tibetan Sichuan, from Chengdu to Lhasa, lets you experience the breathtaking snow mountains, sacred lakes, forest seas, and sky roads all in one trip. This is the ultimate joy of self-driving! ✨ Key Highlights of the Route 1. Yala Snow Mountain: A sacred mountain you encounter just after leaving Danba. The snow-capped peak framed by grasslands and Tibetan villages looks like a painting, and every snapshot is wallpaper-worthy. 2. Sister Lakes: On the road from Litang to Mangkam, two azure lakes nestle at the foot of the snow mountains, serene and sacred. Stopping to feel the breeze is truly healing. 3. Dongda Mountain + Seventy-Two Bends: Iconic sections of the Sichuan-Tibet Highway. The high-altitude sea of clouds at Dongda Mountain and the thrilling switchbacks of the Seventy-Two Bends maximize the excitement of self-driving. 4. Ranwu Lake + Lhag Glacier: The lake’s water is as blue as a gem, surrounded by snow mountains and glaciers. Driving along the lakeshore feels like entering a fairy tale world. 5. Namcha Barwa Peak: On the way from Lulang to Nyingchi, this is known as "China’s most beautiful snow mountain." Seeing its full view is definitely the luckiest moment of the trip. 6. Yamdrok Lake: Near Lhasa, this lake’s water shows distinct layers of blue. Every frame while driving around the lake is a visual feast. 7. Nyingchi Peach Blossom Valley: From March to April, peach blossoms bloom wildly at the foot of the snow mountains, allowing you to enjoy peach blossoms and snow mountains at the same time. 🚗 Self-Driving Tips ▫️ Some road sections are complex; it’s recommended to drive a rugged off-road vehicle and prepare snow chains and a spare tire. ▫️ Be mindful of altitude sickness in high-altitude areas; bring oxygen tanks and common medications in advance. ▫️ Supply points are far apart along the way; keep your fuel tank above half and carry some snacks and water with you.

They say Namcha Barwa, "unseen by nine out of ten," is the most generous gift this winter has given us. And the place to witness this luck is Songtsam Namcha Barwa Mountain Residence in Milin. It is located deep in the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon, in a village facing the snow-capped mountain—not just to "see" the scenery, but to truly "live within" it. 🚙 Arrival marks the beginning of a pilgrimage: Departing from Nyingchi Milin Airport, drive about 2.5 hours along the Yarlung Tsangpo River, with magnificent scenery all the way. The hotel is in Dalin Village, seemingly within arm’s reach of the snow mountain. Songtsam’s classic Tibetan stone architecture perfectly blends with the village. Upon entering the lobby, behind the entire glass wall, the sharp triangular main peak of Namcha Barwa greets you, prompting gasps from everyone. 🛖 Indigenous culture and ultimate comfort: The rooms continue Songtsam’s signature style: traditional Tibetan furniture, handmade textiles, copper bathtubs, but with underfloor heating, humidifiers, and oxygen supply equipment to ensure extreme comfort at high altitude. Our room had a balcony facing the snow mountain; doing nothing all day but watching the light and shadows move across the mountain is a supreme pleasure. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Parent-child moments in dialogue with the sacred mountain: Golden sunlight guardian: Winter is the best season to view Namcha Barwa, with stable weather and high visibility. The hotel informs guests of the next day’s sunrise time. In the early morning, either in the room or on the third-floor viewing platform, wait for the first ray of sunlight to dye the mountain peak golden. The awe of that moment will be remembered by children for life. Easy hiking to explore the canyon: The hotel butler can lead light village hikes to a more open riverside viewing platform, offering different perspectives of the sacred mountain. Along the way, you pass barley fields and walnut groves, with pristine and peaceful scenery. Tibetan family visit experience: Songtsam arranges visits to local Tibetan families to taste butter tea and tsampa and learn about their daily lives. This is a very precious cultural experience. Starry sky class: If the weather is clear, the night sky is dazzling. You can tell children stories about constellations and search for the Milky Way. 🍛 Warm Tibetan feast: The hotel cuisine combines local ingredients with exquisite cooking. Hot matsutake chicken soup, yak meat, Tibetan fragrant pork, and Nyingchi’s specialty hand-shaped ginseng all replenish energy well. At high altitude, it is recommended to eat until 70% full and drink plenty of hot water. 📌 Nyingchi winter plateau travel tips: Altitude sickness prevention: The hotel is about 3,000 meters above sea level, which most people can adapt to. But move slowly and avoid bathing on the first night. Rooms have diffused oxygen supply available anytime. Extreme warmth: The canyon is warm in the sun during the day but extremely cold and windy in the early morning and evening. Prepare thick down jackets, hats, scarves, gloves, and thermal underwear. Transportation: It is recommended to rent a car in Nyingchi or book Songtsam’s transfer service. Mountain roads are winding, so be cautious. Booking: Songtsam hotels are very popular, especially rooms with mountain views. Be sure to book months in advance on Trip.com. Itinerary connection: You can link Songtsam Linka in Bomi or Laigu Mountain Residence to complete an in-depth southeastern Tibet loop trip. At Songtsam, time takes on a different dimension. Children learn to wait quietly and cheer for the appearance of a ray of light. When Namcha Barwa finally unveils its full face, he quietly says, “Dad, the mountain is shining.” Perhaps this is the best education travel can offer—about nature, reverence, and beauty.

1️⃣ Plan Your Route in Advance: Determine the attractions you want to visit and your general itinerary in advance. This allows you to book transportation and accommodation more reasonably, avoiding last-minute decisions that can increase costs. For example, plan whether to take the classic Lhasa - Namtso - Shigatse loop or the Nyingchi - Bomi - Ranwu Lake route. 2️⃣ Choose the Right Season: The cost of traveling to Tibet varies greatly depending on the season. During the off-season (generally from November to March), airfares and hotel prices drop significantly, and there may be discounts on entrance fees to attractions. Additionally, there are fewer tourists, making for a better travel experience. Transportation 3️⃣ Choose Flexible Transportation: In Tibet, public transportation such as buses is affordable. For example, minibuses in Lhasa cost just a few yuan to reach many places. On some tourist routes, carpooling can help share costs and allow you to meet fellow travelers. 4️⃣ Look for Discounts: Airlines and railway companies sometimes offer special promotions for tourist destinations. Keep an eye on related information in advance to snag heavily discounted air or train tickets. Accommodation and Dining 5️⃣ Choose Cost-Effective Accommodation: Use online travel platforms to compare prices and reviews of different hotels and guesthouses, and choose a place that is well-located and budget-friendly. Youth hostels are also a good option, with lower prices for dormitory beds and opportunities to exchange travel experiences. 6️⃣ Try Local Snacks: Tibet has many unique and inexpensive snacks, such as Tibetan noodles, sweet tea, and yak yogurt. You can taste authentic flavors at street-side shops, saving money while experiencing local food culture. Sightseeing 7️⃣ Buy Combo Tickets: Some attractions offer combo tickets, which are more cost-effective than buying individual tickets for each site. For example, the Potala Palace and Norbulingka combo ticket. 8️⃣ Know Free Admission Days: Some attractions have specific free admission days. Do your homework in advance and visit on these days to save on entrance fees. Other Tips 9️⃣ Prepare Common Medications: Bring common medications for altitude sickness, colds, and digestive issues to avoid high medical costs and ensure a smooth trip. 🔟 Learn Basic Tibetan and Local Customs: Knowing some simple Tibetan greetings can make locals feel your friendliness and might even get you small discounts in some situations. Understanding local religious customs and cultural taboos can help avoid unnecessary trouble and extra expenses.

🚗 Laigu Glacier is a group of glaciers located in Ranwu Town, Basu County, Changdu, Tibet, adjacent to Ranwu Lake, which is the source of Parlung Zangbo. The melted snow flows into Ranwu Lake, and there are dense primitive forests and many primitive Tibetan villages by the lake, including Meixi, Yalong, Ruoqiao, Dongga, Xiongjia and Niuma glaciers. Among these glaciers, Yalong Glacier is the most spectacular. The "Yalong Glacier" is 12 kilometers long, extending from the main peak of Gangri Gabu Mountain at an altitude of 6606 meters to Gangri Gabu Lake at an altitude of 4,000 meters. In terms of climate, it is located in the main channel for the Indian Ocean monsoon to transport cold air to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, with sufficient precipitation, which is conducive to the development of glaciers and is a maritime glacier. 🚗 I came with a group this time, so I only walked the regular tourist route. Laigu Glacier is a group of glaciers, and I should have gone to one of them. Overall, I didn't feel it was difficult, and it's not like what the internet says about needing to ride a horse. I walked from the shuttle bus terminal to the innermost ice wall and back in an hour and a half with photos. The scenery is very good when the weather is good. 🚗 Some precautions 1. Be sure to pay attention to altitude sickness, you know your own body, there is no need to ride a horse but don't force it if your body can't handle it. 2. Be sure to pay attention to safety when going down, it is best to rent ice claws at the mouth of the glacier, after all, you are responsible for your own safety. 25y. 3. Currently, the big ice wall is not open. I went in today and walked straight in along the right side, no one stopped me so I thought it was open. There is some lake water near the ice wall that is not frozen. When I was about 20m away from the wall, someone shouted at me that it was dangerous and I couldn't go, so I hurried back. 4. If you live in Songzan or go to another glacier inside, you can drive in by yourself, you can ask in advance. 5. I don't know if all the glaciers in China are like this, there is no leader to play with. I have been to Alaska and Iceland and there are guides to walk the designated route all the way. Don't go to places without footprints on the glacier, pay attention to safety.

Laigu Glacier is a general term for a group of glaciers, located in Ranwu Town, Basu County, Changdu, Tibet, adjacent to Ranwu Lake. Among the Laigu Glacier group, the Yalong Glacier is the most spectacular, extending from the main peak of Gangrigabu Mountain at an altitude of 6606 meters to Gangrigabu Lake at an altitude of 4,000 meters. Laigu Glacier is one of the three major glaciers in the world and the source of the Parlung Tsangpo. 🌟Highlights: The blue ice cave is extremely shocking 👍Most recommended: The blue ice cave has to go to the foot of the snow mountain at the end, it tests perseverance and persistence 🚉Travel strategy: Navigate to the entrance of Laigu Glacier Scenic Area, the sightseeing car inside takes another 40 minutes, and then you need to walk or ride a horse to reach the first glacier, which takes about 40 minutes on foot. If you want to enter the innermost glacier to see the blue hole, you need to rent a car from the local villagers to go in. The road is very dangerous and it takes about 40 minutes to drive. 💰Average consumption: The entrance ticket plus sightseeing car is 210 yuan, and there are discounts on general platforms. The first glacier rides a horse for 100 per person. The glacier inside rents a car for 300 per person. Although it is expensive, it is worth it ⏳Play time: I stayed for a whole day

Tibet is beautiful, but I honestly don't recommend just going on a whim! It's too rough 😭 Honestly! It's been a week since I returned from Tibet. My phone is full of stunning photos of snow-capped mountains and holy lakes. Every shot is wallpaper-worthy, but I really won't be rushing back! Many people are fooled by the "healing" filter of Tibet, thinking it's a romantic journey to purify the soul. In reality, after experiencing it yourself, you realize the price of the beautiful scenery is physical suffering, exhausting travel, and constant hidden traps! Today, I'm sharing a heartfelt, real, and unfiltered guide to Tibet. No hype, no bias. If you're planning to go to Tibet, you must read this to avoid 90% of the traps! Let's start with the truth: Why don't I recommend that the average person just rush off to Tibet? 1. Altitude sickness is not just in your head; it's physical agony Before I went, I thought altitude sickness was just a mild headache that I could tough out, but I completely underestimated the power of the plateau! I took the train into Tibet, which I thought was the safest way, but I crashed the very night I arrived in Lhasa! I had a splitting headache all night, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and couldn't sleep. Turning over or walking made my heart race, and I couldn't even catch my breath if I spoke a little too loudly. My travel companions had it even worse; they were vomiting and having nosebleeds, and had to rush to get oxygen and IV fluids in the middle of the night. ⚠️ Key tips to avoid pitfalls Don't believe that "if you have a good mindset, you won't get altitude sickness"! Altitude sickness has nothing to do with your physical condition or mindset! People who don't exercise, stay up late, are physically weak, or haven't fully recovered from a cold should absolutely not rush into Tibet, as it can easily trigger severe altitude sickness or even pulmonary edema! For the first 3 days after arriving, don't shower or wash your hair, don't stay up late, don't walk fast or run, and don't overeat. Resting quietly is the way to go! 2. The travel time is agonizing; you spend half your day on the road Tibet's beauty is vast, but the price is an incredibly long travel time! The distance between attractions is often hundreds of kilometers, and it's all mountain roads with no flat ground to speak of. Popular attractions like Yamdrok Lake, Namtso, and Mount Everest usually take 4–6 hours one way. The roads are full of winding mountain paths and washboard roads. It's so bumpy that you'll get carsick and want to throw up, your butt will go numb, there's no cell signal the whole way, and it's boring and agonizing. Especially the Nujiang 72 Bends, where the curves are ridiculously dense. Novice drivers and those prone to carsickness will truly have a breakdown! I honestly don't recommend that the average person drive to Tibet! The road conditions in Tibet are complex, rockfalls are frequent, and some sections are bumpy and uneven. If you don't have an off-road vehicle, it's easy to get a flat tire. If your driving skills are average, don't try to force it. Safety first! 3. Accommodation conditions vary greatly, and the value for money is very low Don't be fooled by photos of "influencer" homestays! Most accommodation in Tibet's scenic areas is expensive and poor, falling far short of expectations! Accommodation in Lhasa city is normal, but as soon as you go to surrounding attractions, the quality drops! The "influencer" tent homestays at the foot of Mount Everest or by Namtso Lake look romantic and healing in photos, but in reality, they are cold and damp, have no private bathrooms, and the toilets are open-air dry latrines. You'll be too cold to sleep in the middle of the night. In peak season, a regular small homestay can easily cost 300–400 a night, but the environment is worse than a budget hotel in the mainland that costs a few dozen. The soundproofing is poor, hot water is unstable, heating is insufficient, and the experience is terrible. ✅ The right choice for accommodation In Lhasa, prioritize areas near Xianzhudao or Norbulingka for convenient transportation and mature facilities; In Nyingchi, stay in Bayi Town, which is lively and livable with lots of food; In Shigatse, choose the area around Tashilhunpo Monastery for easy travel. Definitely don't stay in remote scenic areas! 4. Hidden costs are everywhere, and there are so many traps you can't guard against them all Most of the traps in Tibet are specifically designed to scam tourists! ❌ Don't just take photos with yaks on the side of the road The yaks grazing on the side of the road look nice, but before taking photos, you must ask about the price! Many "free" photo ops are traps. Once you take the photo, a group of people will surround you and demand an exorbitant price, ranging from dozens to hundreds, and there's no reasoning with them. ❌ Don't buy jewelry on Barkhor Street The Dzi beads, beeswax, and Tibetan bracelets sold at stalls in scenic areas are 99% fake wholesale goods from Yiwu, costing hundreds or thousands. It's a total rip-off! ❌ Don't buy local specialties in scenic areas The yak jerky and saffron in scenic areas are overpriced, and most are just ordinary goods brought in from elsewhere, not authentic specialties! If you want to buy specialties, go directly to large supermarkets in the city. The prices are transparent, authentic, and cost-effective. ❌ Refuse low-priced one-day tours on the side of the road The low-priced one-day tours and Tibetan costume photo shoots touted by people at train stations and scenic area entrances are all traps by middlemen! They look cheap, but they are full of secondary consumption and forced shopping. There are so many traps! 5. Food and water issues, and high costs The overall price level in Tibet is high, comparable to a first-tier city! A bowl of ordinary Tibetan noodles or fried rice in a scenic area can easily cost 40–50, with small portions and average taste. Local Sichuan food is oily and heavy; eating it for a long time can easily cause gastrointestinal discomfort. Coupled with the dry and oxygen-deprived plateau, many people will experience constipation, internal heat, and mouth ulcers. I suggest everyone bring their own thermos, gastrointestinal medicine, lip balm, and moisturizer. Drink plenty of water and eat a light diet. But! Tibet is really worth visiting once! Although the whole trip was rough and full of traps, I never regret coming! Seeing the clear, healing blue of Yamdrok Lake, the majestic and holy Mount Everest, the endless starry sky of Namtso, and the pure, healing blue sky and white clouds with my own eyes, and watching the devout pilgrims, the moment the wind blows the prayer flags, all the fatigue vanishes. The freedom and grandeur here are scenery you will never see in plain cities. You must head to the snow-covered plateau at least once in your life. Reliable Tibet guide for beginners | Tips to avoid pitfalls ✅ Best time to travel June–September is the most beautiful season in Tibet, with comfortable temperatures and lush greenery; October–April is colder, suitable for viewing snow-capped mountains and snow scenery. Beginners should prioritize summer and autumn travel. ✅ Reliable travel methods Beginners should prioritize flying directly or taking the train to Tibet. Do not drive the Sichuan-Tibet Highway yourself! The journey is too long, road conditions are complex, and the risk is too high. Joining a small group is the most worry-free and reliable option. ✅ Essential items list Altitude sickness medicine, oxygen bottles, cold medicine, gastrointestinal medicine, glucose Sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, lip balm (the UV rays on the plateau are super strong) Thick jacket! The temperature difference between day and night is huge, so bring long-sleeved, thick clothes even in summer ✅ Absolute taboos 1. Do not enter Tibet if you haven't recovered from a cold; it can easily trigger severe plateau illness 2. Do not shower, exercise vigorously, or drink alcohol when you first arrive in Tibet 3. Do not take photos inside temples, do not step on thresholds, and respect local customs 4. Do not feed or touch yaks or sheep on the side of the road to avoid being extorted Summary: Tibet is a trip where your body is in hell, but your eyes are in heaven! It is beautiful, healing, and sacred, but it is really not suitable for people who pursue comfort, are afraid of being tired or troubled, or have a weak constitution. If you are willing to accept the hardship and imperfection of the journey for the sake of the ultimate scenery, then Tibet is definitely worth a trip ✨

Seriously, everyone! Take my advice! Don't come to Ranwu Lake between October and November unless you're prepared. Because once you arrive, your heart will be completely captured by this heavenly hidden gem! I just got back, and I'm still reeling from it! I stayed up late to put together this practical guide. If you're planning to go, just follow these tips and you won't waste any time! 👇 📍 Where is it exactly? Ranwu Lake is nestled in Baxoi County, Qamdo City, Tibet, right next to National Highway 318. Its Tibetan name roughly translates to "corpses piled up," which actually refers to the fact that it's a barrier lake formed by landslides blocking the river. The lake is divided into upper, middle, and lower sections, each offering completely different surprises! 🍂 How stunning is the scenery in October–November? This is the time of year when Ranwu Lake's colors are at their richest and most vibrant! With the rainy season over, the lake water returns to a bottomless Tiffany blue. The forests along the shore are painted golden and fiery red by the autumn frost. The combination of colorful forests, blue lake, and snow-capped mountains creates an incredible sense of depth. Plus, the weather is extremely stable during this time. Every morning from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM, the lake is calm, and that massive "mirror of the sky" perfectly reflects the snow-capped mountains—it's so beautiful it might make you cry. 🍜 Local food recommendations (no duds) When you're on the plateau, you owe it to yourself to have a hot meal! Ranmuqi Tibetan Restaurant: A very unique Tibetan restaurant in Ranwu Town with a warm and hospitable owner. You must order the fritillaria stewed chicken. Baxoi is famous for its fritillaria, and the soup slow-cooked with this medicinal herb and Tibetan chicken blends the herbal aroma and meaty flavor perfectly. One bowl will warm you from head to toe. Yak beef hot pot: Definitely the ultimate remedy for warding off the cold and altitude sickness! The meat is firm yet tender, and the broth is super savory. Stone pot chicken: Stewed in a stone pot carved from local stone, the savory flavors are fully brought out. Every bite is pure essence. Tibetan snacks: You must try tsampa, butter tea, and Tibetan noodles. The butter tea is salty and very helpful for alleviating altitude sickness. Tsampa gets more fragrant the more you chew it, and it's very filling. Tip: The town is dominated by Sichuan restaurants, which offer plenty of choices and consistent flavors. If you're not used to Tibetan food, you can't go wrong with any busy Sichuan restaurant. 🏠 Accommodation guide Accommodation is mainly divided into two areas. Choose based on your needs: · If you want to photograph morning mist and starry skies → Choose Laigu Village first. The Songtsam Laigu Lodge here has the best facilities, including floor heating and diffused oxygen supply. You can see the glacier right from your window. Remember to book 14 days in advance during peak season. There are also many Tibetan-style guesthouses in the village, with prices ranging from CNY 150–300. Before booking, be sure to confirm if they have a private bathroom and electric blanket. · If you're traveling with family or want convenience → Choose Ranwu Town first. There are plenty of dining options, it's easy to refuel, and the altitude is slightly lower. Lake-view hotels and self-driving campsites cost about CNY 400–800, while budget Tibetan-style guesthouses in town are CNY 150–300. If you're bringing parents or children, prioritize Ranwu Town for easier access to medical care and supplies. 🚗 Route planning There is no direct public transportation to Ranwu Lake, so driving yourself or hiring a car is the most flexible way to get there. · From Lhasa: Lhasa → Nyingchi → Bomi → Ranwu. You can stop by Midui Glacier along the way. · From Chengdu: Chengdu → Kangding → Litang → Batang → Ranwu. It takes about 3 to 4 days of driving, and the whole journey is like a blockbuster movie. · Lake loop: View the lower part of Ranwu Lake from G318, then turn onto the G559 county road to reach the upper part of Ranwu Lake. There are several viewing platforms along the national highway where you can temporarily park to take photos. 📸 Photo spot collection These spots are perfect for great photos: Upper Ranwu Lake (Kangsha Village/Xiudeng Temple Viewing Platform): From 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM, when there's no wind, the lake surface is like a giant mirror. It's the top spot for photographing the reflection of the snow-capped mountains. Middle Ranwu Lake Viewing Platform: You can capture the wooden houses of Wa Village and the "golden mountain" at sunset in the same frame. The atmosphere is incredible. Lower Ranwu Lake + RV Campsite: Perfect for road trip photos. Drive about 3 kilometers toward Zayu along the lakeside curve. It's less crowded and perfect for taking photos in peace. Hidden gem spot: Search for "Ranwu Town 82 Road Maintenance Station" on your navigation. Not many people know about it, so you can avoid the crowds and enjoy the entire lake view to yourself. Outfit advice: Light colors or bright colors like red go best with the blue lake and snow-capped mountains. Layering with a windbreaker is the most practical approach. The temperature difference between day and night is huge, so a down jacket is essential for survival. ⚠️ Tips to avoid pitfalls (every sentence is a hard-learned lesson) Altitude sickness is the top priority: The altitude is nearly 3,900 meters. Don't run or jump when you first arrive, and try not to shower or drink alcohol on the first day. Prepare oxygen canisters and glucose in advance, and start taking Rhodiola rosea a week before. Stay warm: In October, daytime temperatures are about 5–15°C, and it can drop below freezing at night. A windbreaker and a light down jacket are must-haves. Sunglasses, a hat, and sunscreen (SPF 50+) are also essential—the UV rays on the plateau are no joke. Get there early for reflections: The wind starts picking up on the lake after 10:00 AM. If you want to capture the mirror effect, wake up early. 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM is the best time. Agree on the price for horse riding in advance: If you encounter horse riding experiences by the lake, make sure to clarify the total price before getting on the horse, otherwise, last-minute price hikes will ruin your mood. Don't stop at private roadside viewing platforms: Some places fenced off by individuals on the national highway will charge a parking fee. There's no need to spend that money; official viewing platforms are free to park at. Be environmentally friendly: Do not trample on the meadows and marshes by the lake, and take all your trash with you. Such a beautiful place needs us all to protect it. Autumn at Ranwu Lake is truly the kind of place you can't forget once you've seen it. The heart-piercingly blue lake water, golden meadows, towering snow-capped mountains, and a bowl of hot yak beef hot pot—everything is just right. Take advantage of this golden window from October to November and add it to your itinerary now!

Want to travel during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day but worried about breaking the bank? I've scoured the map and picked 8 places that are affordable and fun. No sugarcoating—I'll tell you straight where it's worth going and what you can skip. 1️⃣ Haixi Mongol and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture | Qinghai Bottom line first: Choose either Chaka Salt Lake or Emerald Lake. Don't try to do both. ⏰ Get into Chaka before 9:00 AM for fewer crowds and steady reflections. After 10:00 AM, the tour groups arrive, and all you'll capture in your photos are other people's red dresses. Kunlun Mountain is free, but don't think about climbing it. 📍 Charter a car from Golmud city along the Qinghai-Tibet Highway. Stop at a viewing platform for 10 minutes—the snow-capped mountains, prayer flags, and trucks are enough for a great social media post. It's high altitude, so don't jump around when you get out of the car. Qarhan Salt Lake is much larger than Chaka, and the admission ticket is cheaper. ⚠️ Don't wear white shoes; the edges of the salt crust are muddy. Water sold inside the scenic area is expensive, so bring enough of your own. 🍜 Head back to Golmud city for "kangkou" (pan-roasted) lamb. A small portion is enough for two people, served with a bowl of noodle slices, costing a little over CNY 40 per person. Best for self-driving travelers; public transport isn't very convenient. 2️⃣ Baoting | Hainan Baoting, right next to Sanya, is one of the few places in Hainan that doesn't overcharge tourists. Buy your Yanoda Rainforest admission ticket online in advance; it's much cheaper than at the gate. ⏰ Enter the park at 8:30 AM and take the Dream Valley route—it's cool, less crowded, and you can sit by the waterfall for a long time. At Betel Nut Valley, you can see Li and Miao villages. It's a bit commercial, but the brocade weaving and boat-shaped houses are worth seeing. ⚠️ Don't casually accept the "folk costume photo" offers inside; they charge quite a bit after the shoot. 🚄 Take the intercity train from Sanya to Yalong Bay Station, then take a taxi for half an hour. You can stay in a clean homestay in Baoting county town for over CNY 100. 🍜 In the evening, go to the county night market to eat "five-footed pig" and Li-style bamboo rice. Ordering three items for two people costs less than CNY 80. Suitable for traveling with seniors and children; the rainforest trails are gentle and not tiring. 3️⃣ Altay | Xinjiang Altay during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day is the most colorful and beautiful time of the year. If you have to choose between Kanas and Koktokay, I prefer Koktokay. Kanas is famous, but the queue for the shuttle bus will make you question your life. ⏰ Enter Koktokay after 4:00 PM when the light hits the Irtysh River at an angle, turning everything golden. The admission ticket plus shuttle bus is just over CNY 200, cheaper than Kanas. For the cultural part of the Altay grasslands, don't book those "home visit" tours. 📍 Find a herdsman's yurt near Burqin county town, have a bowl of milk tea, and chat—it's much more comfortable than paying to watch a performance. Seeing snow in Northern Xinjiang depends on luck; if National Day is early, you might catch the first snowfall. ⚠️ The temperature difference between day and night can reach 20 degrees, so don't mind the weight of a down jacket. Suitable for those who can handle some hardship and are willing to carpool. 4️⃣ Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture | Hunan Fenghuang Ancient Town no longer charges a general admission fee, but don't rush to buy the package tickets for smaller attractions. ⏰ At 6:30 AM, the Tuojiang River is still misty and the jumping rocks are empty—this is what Fenghuang should look like. After 9:00 AM, it's all tour groups. Dehang Grand Canyon and Aizhai Bridge can be visited together. 📍 There's a viewing platform under Aizhai Bridge; seeing the bridge spanning between two mountains is breathtaking. A walk through the canyon takes two hours, so wear non-slip shoes. Shibadong Village is great for a stop if you're driving by. The village is quiet, so don't go with a "check-in" mindset. ⚠️ If someone pulls you to take photos by the river in Fenghuang, ask for the price before getting on the boat. 🍜 Eat blood duck and sour soup fish. Small shops in the alleys near Hongqiao are half the price of those by the river. Suitable for students and couples on a tight budget. 5️⃣ Nyingchi | Tibet Autumn in Nyingchi is the least "Tibet-like" place in Tibet. Choose either Bomi or Basum Lake to stay for a night. Basum Lake's admission ticket is expensive, but staying in a village by the lake and opening your window to the lake in the morning is worth it. ⏰ Go to the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon in the afternoon; the probability of seeing Namcha Barwa Peak is higher than in the morning. If you can't see it, don't worry—wait a while, the clouds move fast. On the section of the Yunnan-Tibet Highway entering Nyingchi, ⚠️ don't drive at night; there are many falling rocks. If you're driving, stop for a night at Ranwu Lake; the wind by the lake is strong enough to blow you away. 🍜 Lulang stone pot chicken is expensive, but it's worth trying once. A small pot is over CNY 200 and can be shared by three people. Suitable for people with plenty of time who aren't rushing between attractions; it's only worth it if you slow down. 6️⃣ Baiyin | Gansu The Yellow River Stone Forest was the most surprising place on this trip. The admission ticket plus transportation is just over CNY 100, which is more practical than many "internet-famous" spots. ⏰ Enter the valley after 3:00 PM; the light gives the stone pillars depth, making for great photos. 📍 Take the scenic area bus to the valley entrance, then switch to a donkey cart or walk. The donkey cart driver will provide commentary along the way, but remember to agree on the price beforehand. ⚠️ Don't wear sandals; the valley is full of sand and dirt. It's windy, so hold onto your hat. 🍜 Head back to Baiyin city for Shuichuan long noodles. A bowl costs around CNY 15 and is sour, spicy, and appetizing. Suitable for self-driving; it's over an hour from Lanzhou. Public transport is infrequent, so check in advance. 7️⃣ Nantong | Jiangsu Nantong's Hao River is the kind of place that "locals pass by every day, but tourists easily miss." The loop around the river is free, and the museum, clock tower, and old wharf are all nearby. ⏰ Walk along the river at 5:00 PM as the lights turn on and the reflections on the water shatter into pieces. 📍 Start from the Haoxi Library side and walk to the Nantong Museum—it's on the way. ⚠️ The night cruise ticket isn't cheap. If you want to save money, just walk; the loop takes an hour and a half and isn't tiring. 🍜 Eat a bowl of Nantong "jump" noodles and buy a fried dumpling—it'll cost you around CNY 15. Suitable for people who don't want to squeeze into popular cities and just want to wander around quietly for a day. It's not crowded here during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day. 8️⃣ Linfen | Shanxi Hongdong Dahuaishu (Great Locust Tree) and Hukou Waterfall—one for tracing roots, the other for watching water. The water volume at Hukou Waterfall is just right during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day. ⚠️ Don't stand too close to the edge; the mud is slippery, and don't go outside the guardrails. ⏰ Go to Hukou in the morning to avoid backlighting. On the way back to Linfen in the afternoon, stop by Yunqiu Mountain. You need to buy a separate ticket for the ice cave cluster, so bring an extra jacket if you're afraid of the cold. The Hongdong Dahuaishu Ancestral Root-Seeking Garden is suitable for taking elders; young people might find it boring. 📍 Stay near the Drum Tower in Linfen city and have beef meatball noodles for dinner—a bowl costs CNY 10. 🚄 There are buses from Linfen West Station towards Hukou, but they are infrequent, so carpooling is more practical. Suitable for family trips with a manageable budget. Of these 8 places, the ones I most want to visit again are Baiyin and Linfen. One is desolate yet quiet, the other is profound and grounded. Where are you planning to go for the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day? Let me know in the comments, and I'll help you spot the potential traps.
