There’s plenty of small spots on the highway to park your car and enjoy the lookout for a while. If you plan to drive to Jasper, have a full tank because there’s no gas stations on the way.

To save money, I lived in Canmore and took a bus to travel around in Banff. Here are some sites that I visited: 🏔️Three Sisters, Canmore🏔️ Even just in Canmore, you can see many beautiful mountains. The Three Sisters are the most famous ones. The people there are very nice and friendly because most locals live in Canmore not Banff, so you get to enjoy the warmth of the locals while living in Canmore surrounded by mountains. 🏔️Banff National Park🏔️ 📍Lake Louise Lake Louise is truly a place that will make you feel like you’re in a painting. The unique turquoise color of the lake is definitely what makes the lake so beautiful. It is beyond the description of words. You have to visit it yourself to experience the wonder. 📍Johnston Canyon At Johnston Canyon, you get to see all kinds of amazing views, including canyon, creek, waterfall, and even cliffs made with ice! Some of the waterfall is even frozen into ice sticks. The total length of the hike is about 2.6km, so you can complete it without too much effort. However, in winter time the road is covered with ice, so it’s quite slippery. Please bring shoes that have spikes when you visit. 📍Tunnel Mountain If you want to hike the easiest mountain in Banff, Tunnel Mountain is a relatively easy one for travellers. I drove from Canmore (40 min), parked free at the gondola base, rode up at 08:30. 2025 adult ticket 70 CAD incl. GST, card at guest services, book online for summer weekends. Off the Standish deck the loop runs 7 km past Rock Isle, Larix, and Grizzly Lakes. The "mossy" section is the north flank of the divide where snowmelt keeps a Polytrichum mat under the heather — I hit it at 09:10, the moss bright green against the red argillite, marmots whistling from the scree, a hoary marmot 5 m off the boardwalk. By 10:00 the wildflowers (paintbrush, glacier lily) took over, but the moss line stays green all summer. Free Banff shuttle runs from town; I drove and avoided the 08:00 shuttle queue. Mistake: I came July 1 and the upper loop was still 30% snow — late July to mid-Aug for bare moss and bloom. Another: the gondola closes end Sept; miss the last chair down (18:00) and you walk 4.5 km road to the base. Would you pay 70 CAD for the gondola+chair to walk Sunshine's 2,400 m mossy alpine loop, or hike the 4.5 km access road up and skip the lift?
