Save this ultimate guide—it's packed with useful tips💥 📍Location Shaoyang is in southwest Hunan, about 1.5 hours by high-speed train from Changsha. There are many old shops on Hongqi Road; go early for the most authentic experience. 2. Wugang Braised Dishes—slow-cooked with dozens of Chinese herbs. The braised dried tofu and braised copper goose get tastier the more you chew; they're addictive as a snack. 3. Blood Duck—local free-range tender duck stir-fried with duck blood, young ginger, and fresh chili. It's spicy, rich, and perfect with rice. 4. Stir-fried Pork Blood Balls with Preserved Meat—smoked pork belly stir-fried with pork blood balls; the smoky flavor is incredible. 5. Tangyou Baba—glutinous rice cakes fried until golden and crispy, then coated in brown sugar syrup. Sweet but not cloying. 6. Nanshan Pasture Yogurt—thick and creamy, rich in milky flavor, and costs less than CNY 10. 🏠Accommodation ▪️City Center—Hotels around the high-speed railway station offer great value, with large, clean rooms and breakfast included, averaging around CNY 150 per person. ▪️Huayao Ancient Village—Stay in a stilt-house homestay. You'll be right next to a thousand-year-old forest and can see a starry sky at night, all for just over CNY 100 per person. Be sure to book 3 days in advance during peak season! ▪️Around Langshan—The Yao village homestays on the mountainside are quiet and serene, and some even offer bonfires, ranging from CNY 60–150 per person. ▪️Nanshan Pasture—Stay in the pasture and see the meadows right from your window, perfect for watching the sunrise and sunset. To save money, stay in Chengbu County, where you can find full amenities for about CNY 150 per person. 🗺️Itinerary (3 days, 2 nights, relaxed pace) Day 1: Slow stroll in the city—experience the local vibe. Sleep in → Shaoyang Museum (free, closed on Mondays) → Lunch: a bowl of authentic Shaoyang rice noodles → Afternoon: stroll along the Baoqing Ancient City Wall, with its old alleys and bluestone paths → Evening: head to the Baoqing Night Market for blood duck and pork blood balls. Day 2: Langshan Danxia—a World Natural Heritage site. Morning: depart for Langshan → Morning: visit Bajiao Village to see the Danxia peaks; when the sea of clouds rolls in, you'll feel like you're flying → Lunch: farm-to-table food near the scenic area, featuring free-range chicken and wild vegetables → Afternoon: Chili Peak + Tianyi Lane (the narrowest part is 0.33 meters, you have to turn sideways to pass) → Evening: watch the sunset as the mountains turn orange-red → Stay at a homestay near Langshan. Day 3: Nanshan Pasture—the "Hulunbuir of the South." Morning: depart for Nanshan Pasture → Ziyang Peak: overlook the vast meadows with windmills and cows in the same frame → Gaoshan Hongshao: take retro military-style photos → Afternoon: drink freshly boiled milk and buy yogurt → Return trip. 📸Photo spots 1. Bajiao Village—The best sea of clouds is from 5:00 AM to 7:00 AM, overlooking hundreds of Danxia peaks churning in the clouds, known as "Whales Playing in the Sea." From late August to mid-September, the light is best after 5:30 PM. 2. Chili Peak—It really looks like a giant chili pepper stuck in the mountains; every shot is a winner. 3. September–October Rice Terraces—The golden rice waves at Baishuidong/Wanguanchong Terraces are beautiful, especially with morning mist and sunrise. ⚠️Tips to avoid pitfalls (hard-learned lessons) 1. Definitely don't join a group tour! Low-price tours have many traps and unavoidable forced shopping. Traveling on your own is freer and cheaper. 2. Book your high-speed train ticket to Shaoyang Station. If you book to Shaoyang North Station, you'll be in trouble, as it's very far from the city center. 3. Enter Wangxi Waterfall from the exit; it's 80% downhill and saves energy. Entering from the entrance requires climbing steep slopes, which is exhausting. 4. Don't eat at restaurants at the entrance of scenic areas. Head into the ancient village farmhouses; the ingredients are homegrown, and the value is much better. 5. Don't take unlicensed motorcycles at the village entrance; they are heavily overpriced. Contact your homestay host in advance to arrange a local driver for a more reliable experience. 6. There is a large temperature difference between day and night in the mountains. Be sure to bring a light jacket; it gets chilly after sunset at high altitudes. 7. Wear comfortable shoes; Langshan has many stairs that are tough on the legs. Don't wear high heels on the stone paths of the ancient village. 8. Langshan and Nanshan Pasture are far apart; arrange a full day for each. Before Shaoyang becomes too popular, hurry up and go, ladies! With fewer crowds, beautiful scenery, and low prices, you'll truly be healed by this hidden gem of a city💚

Shangbao Ancient Kingdom, Suining, Shaoyang: 2-Day, 1-Night Travel Guide 📍Location: Shangbao Village, Zhaishi Miao and Dong Ethnic Township, Suining County, Shaoyang, Hunan. It is part of the Huangsang Nature Reserve. It features the ruins of the capital of the Miao Kingdom from the Ming Dynasty and is a historic and cultural village in China. The core attractions are the ancient village ruins and stilt houses with terraced fields. It is pristine, almost entirely uncommercialized, and free to enter all day. ⚠️Transportation Key Premise: There are no regular rural buses that go directly to Shangbao Village. You must travel to Suining County or Zhaishi Town and then carpool into the village; this is the most critical point. Solo travelers must time their transfers carefully, while carpooling with 2–4 people offers a much better experience. Nearby Connections: Shangbao ↔ Quyou Valley/Liu'e Cave Waterfall is a 15-minute drive. Zhaishi Ancient Town is located between Suining and Shangbao, making it easy to visit along the way. Altitude is 800+ meters, making it comfortable for escaping the heat, though there is a significant temperature difference between morning and night. The best times to visit are April–May for the flooded terraced fields and September–October for the golden autumn harvest. 🎫Ticket Information ✅Shangbao Ancient Kingdom: Free, open all day, no reservation required ✅Quyou Valley + Liu'e Cave: 50 yuan (half price for students), entry closes at 5:00 PM. There are only homestays and farmhouse restaurants in the village with limited supplies. It is recommended to stock up on water and snacks in Suining County. 🏨Accommodation Recommendations (Top choices for two days) ✅Best for public transit users: Stay in a stilt house homestay within Shangbao Village. 120–220/night. You are right in the middle of the ancient village and terraced fields, making it convenient to wake up early for morning mist and sea of clouds, eat farmhouse food, and avoid traveling back and forth into the mountains for two days. ✅Alternative: Zhaishi Town More amenities, convenient dining, and a 20-minute drive from Shangbao. Suitable if you want to explore the ancient town on your way back the next day. ❌Not recommended to stay in Suining County for the whole trip; commuting 40 minutes on mountain roads each day is a waste of time. 🚌Transportation Route Overview (Public Transit Focus) Arrival (Two main transfer points) High-speed rail priority: Huaihua South Station / Dongkou Station → Bus to Suining County. The bus from Huaihua South to Suining takes about 2 hours; Dongkou Station is closer and has more frequent departures. Suining Bus Station → Shangbao Village: No direct bus. You must carpool or arrange a pickup with your homestay. It costs 30–40 yuan one way and takes 40 minutes. This is the most feasible option for solo travelers. Alternatively, take a bus from Suining to Zhaishi Town (10 yuan, 20 minutes), then carpool from Zhaishi to Shangbao, which is cheaper. From Shaoyang: Shaoyang East Bus Station → Suining bus, rolling departures. For groups of 2–4: Carpooling to/from Suining/Zhaishi offers the most freedom and allows you to visit Quyou Valley along the way. ❗Pure public transit: Suining → Zhaishi bus, then find a ride in Zhaishi. Not recommended for solo travelers to enter the mountains too late, as there are almost no vehicles at night. Within the Scenic Area Shangbao Ancient Village is entirely walkable. The stone post road is not large; you can finish the core area in 2–3 hours. Shangbao ↔ Quyou Valley/Liu'e Cave: Only accessible by carpool/taxi; no public transit. Shangbao ↔ Zhaishi Ancient Town: 20-minute carpool. ✅Main Route A | Public Transit/Carpool Reliable Version (In-depth village tour + morning mist terraced fields, best for two days) Day 1: Suining → Shangbao Ancient Kingdom. Afternoon exploring ancient village ruins and terraced field sunsets. Stay at a village homestay. Morning: Take a bus to Suining County, eat noodles, stock up on water/snacks, and carpool to Shangbao Village. Drop off luggage at the homestay and walk the core route: Village entrance → Bluestone ancient post road → Jinluan Hall ruins → Flagpole stone + ancient horse-tethering tree → Stilt house alleys → Terraced field viewing platform. Spend 2–3 hours strolling, observing the village layout and historical ruins. If you have the energy, you can hike to the small beacon tower ruins. In the evening, wait for sunset light and shadows at the terraced field viewing platform. There is a high probability of thin mist after rain. At night, enjoy bacon/oil tea at the homestay and quietly watch the stars. Occasionally, there are bonfires on Fridays and Saturdays. Logic: Entering the village on the first afternoon allows you to adapt to the pace without rushing for the morning mist, and staying in the village secures the best time slot for the next morning. Day 2: Early morning terraced field mist → Choose one (Quyou Valley hike / Zhaishi Ancient Town) → Return. Option A (Nature hike combination, recommended) Wake up early to see the morning mist and sea of clouds at the terraced field viewing platform (best before 8:00 AM, fewest people), then take a leisurely walk through the village. After lunch at a farmhouse, carpool for 15 minutes to Quyou Valley + Liu'e Cave Waterfall. Enjoy a light 2.5-hour hike on the gentle wooden boardwalk along the stream, escape the heat, and reach the 30-meter waterfall at the end. Afterward, carpool back to Suining County and take a bus/high-speed rail home. Option B (Cultural ancient town combination, more public transit-friendly) Wake up early for the morning mist and explore the ancient village. Carpool/hitch a ride down to Zhaishi Ancient Town to visit the Xihe Old Street, Wind and Rain Bridge, and the old county government office. It is a thousand-year-old Suining county seat, free and very pristine. Take a bus from Zhaishi back to Suining, then transfer for your return trip. ✅Alternative Route B | Group Carpool/Self-drive Complete Version (Shangbao + Quyou Valley + Zhaishi, all in two days) Day 1: Suining → First to Quyou Valley and Liu'e Cave (cooler in the forest in the afternoon) → Shangbao Ancient Kingdom. Stay in the village and watch the sunset. Day 2: Early morning terraced field mist and in-depth tour of Shangbao → Visit Zhaishi Ancient Town on the way back, return in the afternoon. This is the most classic and complete route, only suitable for those with a car/carpool. Relying solely on public transit is very tiring due to timing constraints. ✅Alternative Route C | Pure Leisure/Low-Hike Version (In-depth tour of Shangbao Ancient Kingdom only) Day 1: Carpool from Suining to Shangbao, stroll around the ancient village, take photos of terraced fields, relax at the homestay, and stay in the village. Day 2: Morning mist, walk around the village, experience Miao embroidery/farmhouse crafts. Skip Quyou Valley and carpool back after lunch. Suitable for those who dislike hiking, prefer niche cultural experiences, and want to relax and take photos. Not tiring at all. ✅Alternative Route D | Bijie/Guizhou Departure Transfer Version Day 1: Bijie High-speed Rail → Huaihua South → Bus to Suining → Carpool to Shangbao, stay in Shangbao. Day 2: Shangbao morning mist + ancient village, return trip Suining → Huaihua South → Bijie. ⚠️Key Tips to Avoid Pitfalls Transportation Pitfall 1: There is no direct rural passenger bus to Shangbao. Do not mistakenly assume there is public transit into the village. Solo travelers must contact the homestay in advance to help arrange a carpool; do not hail illegal taxis in Suining at the last minute. There are no convenience stores or grocery shops in Shangbao. Buy water, dry food, and snacks in the county seat in advance. Only eat at homestays/farmhouses. The bluestone paths are mossy and slippery with morning/evening dew; non-slip shoes are a necessity. There is a large temperature difference between day and night in the mountains; bring a light jacket even in summer. Mosquito repellent is a must. The mist clears after 8:00 AM; you must wake up early to see the sea of clouds and morning mist. It gets dark quickly in the mountains after 5:00 PM, and there are no streetlights. Quyou Valley stops entry at 5:00 PM. The waterfall looks better on rainy days, but the boardwalks are more slippery. The best time is during the high-water season from June to August. Respect Miao and Dong customs. Do not step on ancient ruins, do not take photos of elderly people without permission, and observe etiquette when entering the Drum Tower. Mountain roads have many curves; bring motion sickness medicine if you are prone to it. The roads into the village are narrow; drive slowly and be careful when passing other vehicles. It is not recommended to try to squeeze both the Tie Shan Forest and Dayuan Ancient Miao Village into two days. Public transportation is too scattered; prioritize choosing one.

Shaoyang is a hidden gem of a city that is truly underrated! Don't think Hunan tourism is just about Zhangjiajie and Fenghuang Ancient Town! Shaoyang is actually home to countless breathtaking landscapes, from towering alpine grasslands and mysterious Danxia landforms to primitive, quaint villages and quiet, cool canyons. It has it all! With fewer tourists, a serene environment, pristine natural scenery, and very affordable prices, I've carefully curated 4 must-visit top-tier scenic spots. Whether you're looking for a short weekend getaway or an in-depth experience during a long holiday, this guide is perfect. Save this for later—follow this guide for your 2026 trip to Shaoyang, and you won't be disappointed! 🏞️ Langshan Scenic Area | A stunning Danxia wonderland ✨ Highlights This is a true World Natural Heritage site! Known as the "Soul of Danxia," it offers grand landscapes with immense visual impact. The area is filled with rolling Danxia peaks, deep and quiet canyons, and rare "sky slit" wonders. The sea of clouds at Bajiazhai is absolutely unique! After the rain, the morning clouds surge and roll, making the peaks look like they are floating above the clouds, resembling thousands of whales swimming in the sea. Witnessing it in person is incredibly healing and breathtaking. Plus, there's the uniquely shaped Chili Peak and the winding alleyways. Every step offers a new view, and it's just as beautiful as any famous, well-known scenic spot! 🚗 Transportation Driving is highly recommended. Simply navigate to the North Gate of Langshan. The scenic area is well-organized, and parking is very convenient. Travelers from out of town can take a high-speed train to Shaoyang Station and then transfer to a vehicle directly to Xinning Langshan. Public buses are infrequent and time-consuming, so they are not the recommended option. 🏡 Accommodation It's best to stay at a guesthouse in Langshan Town. It's very close to the scenic area, and you can easily walk to the entrance. If you want to catch the sunrise and sea of clouds, staying in town is the most convenient option—no need for an early, long commute. Just open your door and embrace the mountain scenery. 📸 Tips 1. The best time to see the sea of clouds is early in the morning after rain. You're highly likely to see a dreamlike, fairyland scene. 2. If you're not feeling up for a hike, take the cable car to easily reach the summit and overlook the entire Danxia mountain range. 3. The Tianyi Alley section is relatively narrow and cool. Please slow down when passing through, and avoid gathering for photos or lingering for too long. 🌿 Nanshan Pasture | A vast grassland in the southern clouds ✨ Highlights This is Hunan's hidden "Little Altai"! No need to travel far to the north; you can experience vast alpine grasslands right here. With a high average altitude, the climate is cool and comfortable year-round, making it a perfect natural summer retreat. With rolling green meadows, scattered white windmills, and cows grazing leisurely, the atmosphere is gentle and healing. During the day, you can relax and let your mind wander; in the evening, enjoy the sunset that looks like an orange sea; and at night, look up at the starry sky—it's incredibly romantic! 🚗 Transportation Driving yourself up the mountain is the best choice. The mountain road offers beautiful scenery, and you can stop whenever you like. If you choose public transport, you'll need to reach Chengbu County first and then transfer to a rural bus to get into the mountains. This is quite a hassle due to infrequent schedules and isn't suitable for travelers on a tight schedule. 🏡 Accommodation Guesthouses and hotels around Nanshan Town are good choices. If you want to watch the sunrise and stars, prioritize guesthouses located on the mountainside. There is a large temperature difference between day and night on the mountain, so local accommodations are usually well-equipped to keep you warm. 📸 Tips 1. There is a huge temperature difference on the mountain! Even if you visit in mid-summer, be sure to bring a thin, windproof jacket. 2. Please be a respectful visitor when watching the cattle and sheep. Do not chase or feed them; just keep quiet and take photos. 3. On sunny days, the view is wide and perfect for photos. In foggy weather, visibility is lower, which is better for a relaxed, leisurely stroll. 🏡 Huxingshan Huayao Scenic Area | A niche, ancient ethnic secret spot ✨ Highlights This is a super niche, primitive treasure! Hidden deep in the heart of the Xuefeng Mountains, it has remained almost completely untouched by commercialization. The thousand-year-old cedar forest is lush, the air quality is excellent, and it's a true natural oxygen bar. As a unique settlement for the Huayao people, you can see traditional ethnic clothing and stilt-house villages everywhere, full of rich, authentic local life. There are also cascading waterfalls and giant natural stone waterfalls. The streams are lively in spring and summer, and quiet and primitive in autumn and winter—it has a different beauty in every season! 🚗 Transportation Driving is the most comfortable experience. Set your navigation to Chongmu Dang Ancient Village. After exiting the highway, most of the road consists of winding mountain curves, so please slow down and drive safely. You can also take a high-speed train to Longhui Station and then carpool directly to the ancient village, which is more cost-effective. 🏡 Accommodation I highly recommend staying in a local stilt-house guesthouse to immerse yourself in the unique charm of the slow-paced mountain village life. The air in the mountains is relatively humid, so prioritize rooms that are well-ventilated and dry for a more comfortable stay. 📸 Tips 1. Mobile signal in the mountains is generally weak, so it's recommended to download offline maps in advance to avoid getting lost. 2. Please respect the customs and traditions of the ethnic minority and do not take photos of local residents without permission. 3. The waterfall boardwalks can be slippery, so be sure to slow down when walking and always put safety first. 💦 Baishuidong Scenic Area | A cool canyon oxygen bar ✨ Highlights This is a summer retreat kept secret by the locals of Shaoyang! It has everything: quiet canyons, babbling streams, cascading waterfalls, and dreamy caves. The entire route consists of flat boardwalks, so there's almost no need to climb mountains. It's perfect for seniors, children, and those who prefer a relaxed trip. It feels super cool when you enter the mountains in summer, with crystal-clear streams and lush greenery, making it the top choice for escaping the heat. The caves maintain a constant temperature year-round—warm in winter and cool in summer—making them suitable for visiting in any season! 🚗 Transportation For self-driving, navigate directly to Baishuidong Scenic Area. It's very close to the city, making it convenient for short trips. You can also take a local bus, which is suitable for daily leisure trips for locals. 🏡 Accommodation A single day is enough for the trip, and you can return to the city for accommodation after finishing your itinerary. If you want a slow-paced, in-depth experience, you can also stay at a local farmhouse near the scenic area, where the environment is quiet and cozy. 📸 Tips 1. After heavy rain, the waterfalls are full of water, making the scenery most spectacular and breathtaking. 2. The temperature inside the caves is on the lower side, so remember to bring a thin jacket to keep warm. 3. There are many mosquitoes in the forest, so be sure to prepare mosquito repellent for protection. 🍜 Must-try Shaoyang specialties ✅ Blood Duck: Shaoyang's signature top dish! The duck is spicy and flavorful, with a rich sauce that goes perfectly with rice. A must-try when you come to Shaoyang in 2026! ✅ Pork Blood Balls: A local smoked specialty. They have a firm texture and are delicious when stir-fried with cured meat—full of authentic farmhouse flavor. ✅ Wugang Braised Food: Braised dried tofu, braised goose, braised chicken feet—the flavor is rich and savory, and the more you eat, the more addictive it gets. ✅ Miao-style Cured Meat, Stir-fried Fern Cake with Cured Meat: Full of wild mountain flavor, fresh and savory without being greasy—these are delicious, authentic home-cooked dishes. ✅ Handmade Ciba (sticky rice cake), Local Rice Cake: Soft, glutinous, and sweet, suitable for all ages—the top choice for a satisfying snack. 💡 General travel tips 1. Shaoyang has many mountain scenic areas with large temperature differences between day and night. Regardless of the season, a thin jacket is essential. 2. There are many mountain roads, so wear comfortable flat shoes for the whole trip to avoid tired feet and stay safe. 3. Try to travel on weekdays when it's less crowded and quiet. You won't have to wait in line, and your travel experience will be doubled. 4. There are few convenience stores in mountain scenic areas, so prepare drinking water, snacks, sunscreen, and mosquito repellent in advance. 5. Travel responsibly throughout your trip, protect the mountain vegetation, and practice "leave no trace" travel to avoid damaging the ecosystem. 💛 Final thoughts I really love the landscapes of Shaoyang! It has the grandeur of Danxia, the gentleness of grasslands, the authentic life of ancient villages, and the coolness of canyons. It's niche and uncrowded, beautiful and not overly commercialized, and both food and accommodation are affordable. You don't need to travel across provinces to unlock 4 completely different types of stunning scenery. While the time is right, hurry up and plan a trip to Shaoyang to immerse yourself in the romance and healing of southwest Hunan!

2-Day, 1-Night Travel Guide to Nanshan Pasture, Chengbu, Shaoyang (Includes Public Transport | Southern Alpine Grassland) 📍Key takeaways: This is Nanshan Pasture in Chengbu, Shaoyang, Hunan—the largest alpine terrace grassland in the south. Don't confuse it with Nanshan in Urumqi, Xinjiang ⚠️Crucial transport note: There is no official park-wide shuttle bus. Ziyang Peak, Dayakou, Maoping Lake, and Gaoshan Hongshao are several kilometers apart; you cannot connect them by walking Driving, carpooling, or renting an e-scooter are the best ways to get around Public transport is limited to two daily shuttle buses from Chengbu County to Nanshan Town, which only go to the town center. For a 2-day trip using public transport, use Nanshan Town as your base and carpool for short trips between attractions Average altitude is 1,700+ meters. Summer temperatures average 18°C, making it a great summer retreat, but there is a huge temperature difference between day and night 🎫Ticket reference Peak season (May 1–Oct 31): ¥70, online ¥65; off-season ¥40, half-price for students Some tickets include a voucher for Nanshan yogurt Horse riding, milking experiences, and e-scooter shuttles are charged separately 🍜Must-eats: Nanshan yogurt/fresh milk, Miao-style oil tea, bracken cake with cured meat, sour soup fish, beef hot pot, and sticky rice cake 🏨Accommodation recommendations ✅Recommended: Homestays/hotels in Nanshan Town (town center). It's the only point accessible by public bus, convenient for food and supplies, close to attractions for carpooling, and good for watching the sunrise the next day. Price: ¥150–260/night ✅For atmosphere: Grassland yurts (be careful if you don't have thick clothing, as it's windy and cold) ❌Not recommended: Staying in Chengbu County on the first night. You'll waste time catching the bus up the mountain the next day and miss the sunrise 🚌Transport overview (Public transport is key; schedules are very limited, so be punctual) Getting there Chengbu has no high-speed railway station. Two main transfer options: ✅High-speed train to Dongkou Station (closest): Take a bus from the station to Chengbu Bus Station, approx. 2h ✅High-speed train to Shaoyang Station: Take a bus from Shaoyang East/West Bus Station to Chengbu, rolling departures, 2.5h ✅From Guilin: Take a bus from Guilin North Bus Station to Chengbu Chengbu Bus Station → Nanshan Town (only public bus up the mountain) Two fixed daily departures: 10:00 AM / 2:00 PM. Fare: ¥18–20. 1h ride directly to the town center Return trip: 8:00 AM / 1:30 PM departures back to the county ❗If you miss these, you must carpool up the mountain (approx. ¥50 per person or ¥150 for a private car). Do not travel on mountain roads at night Internal transport (Crucial) There are no park shuttle buses. To get from town to Ziyang Peak/Dayakou/Maoping Lake: Homestay carpooling is point-to-point, ¥10–20/person. This is the most practical option for a 2-day trip Renting an e-scooter (limited range) Short-distance e-scooter shuttles are available at some spots, e.g., from Ziyang Peak parking lot to the viewing platform For 2–4 people, we recommend carpooling from the county to the mountain + carpooling for the park loop. This offers much more freedom ✅Public transport itinerary (Stay in Nanshan Town, most stable pace) Day 1: Chengbu → Mountain → Ziyang Peak core grassland + Maoping Lake + Sunset at Wind Power Viewing Platform, stay in Nanshan Town Morning: Take the 10:00 AM bus from Chengbu to Nanshan Town, check in If you miss the 10:00 AM bus, take the 2:00 PM bus and shorten the afternoon itinerary Noon: Eat farm-style food in town, buy water and snacks Afternoon: Carpool from homestay to Ziyang Peak (the core area, overlooking thousands of acres of meadows, windmills, and cows; iconic photo spot), 1.5–2h Stop by Maoping Lake on the way; it's an alpine lake, great for walking and photos, very quiet Evening: Head to the Wind Power Viewing Platform/Dayakou area to watch the sunset over the grassland Night: Return to town, drink Nanshan yogurt, eat beef hot pot. If it's clear, you can see the stars Don't rush to the sunrise spot on the first day; save your energy for the next morning Day 2: Sunrise and sea of clouds at Dayakou → Gaoshan Hongshao / Laoshanjie → Bus back down 5:00 AM+: Carpool to Dayakou, the best spot for sunrise and sea of clouds in Nanshan. Return to town for breakfast after sunrise Morning (choose one): ① Gaoshan Hongshao: Old military outpost, tank and plane relics, great for retro/cultural photos, 1h ② Laoshanjie Plank Road: Red Army historical site, gentle hike, overlooking mountain scenery Noon: Lunch in town Catch the 1:30 PM bus from Nanshan to Chengbu, then transfer to a bus to Dongkou/Shaoyang high-speed railway station If you don't want to watch the sunrise: Spend the morning slowly hiking around Ziyang Peak, then catch the 1:30 PM bus down If you catch the 8:00 AM bus down: You must wake up early for the sunrise and head straight down, missing the second attraction ✅Alternative B: 2-day full loop by carpool/self-drive (Recommended for groups) Day 1: Chengbu → Mountain → Laoshanjie → Maoping Lake → Ziyang Peak → Sunset, stay in Nanshan Town Day 2: Dayakou sunrise → Gaoshan Hongshao → Banliping to see cows/milking experience → Down the mountain, stop by Liangjiang Canyon on the way This is the classic full loop, which cannot be fully connected by public transport ✅Alternative C: Purely relaxing, less hassle (No sunrise, reliable public transport) Day 1: Dongkou/Shaoyang → Chengbu County, stay in the county, eat Miao-style food Day 2: Take the 10:00 AM bus up, Ziyang Peak + light stroll around town + Maoping Lake, take the 1:30 PM bus down A light day trip, suitable for those who dislike waking up early or the cold on the mountain ⚠️Key tips to avoid pitfalls Transport: The biggest pitfall. There are only two minibuses up/down the mountain daily. Confirm the schedule in advance. Public transport users should prioritize the 10:00 AM up/1:30 PM down combination, which is best for a 2-day trip There are no park shuttle buses. Attractions are scattered. If traveling alone by public transport, use the town as a base for short trips. Do not expect to walk to all the core spots The 30 km mountain road is very winding and causes motion sickness easily; take motion sickness medicine in advance. Never travel up or down the mountain at night; there are many curves, no streetlights, and cattle/sheep on the road High altitude means strong UV rays; bring sunscreen and a windbreaker for the day. Even in summer, it's around 10°C in the morning/evening/sunrise; bring a thick jacket, as the temperature difference is 15°C+ Season: May–August is best for green grass and escaping the heat; September–October for autumn scenery; some homestays close in winter; spring for wildflowers; rainy days bring heavy fog, making it hard to see distant views Only Nanshan Town has stable food and supplies on the mountain. Supplies are more expensive than in the county, so buy water and snacks in the county. There are no gas stations; fill up in the county if driving Peak season/summer/weekends: Rooms are in high demand, book in advance. Ask about prices for horse riding and milking. Do not walk onto private meadows, and yield to free-roaming cattle and sheep

Reverse travel for the National Day holiday: avoid the massive crowds and visit these 4 hidden gems in Hunan. With affordable prices and preserved ancient charm, you can truly enjoy a relaxing vacation. 🏮 Huaihua: The thousand-year-old trade route and Dong village hidden gem deep in the Wuxi mountains · Core highlights: Huaihua is incredibly low-key, yet it hides the most authentic side of Western Hunan. Qianyang Ancient Town is 900 years older than Fenghuang and has no admission fee; you'll only find locals living their lives on the bluestone streets. Hongjiang Ancient Commercial Town was once known as "Little Nanjing," and its 380+ Ming and Qing dynasty courtyard houses will transport you back in time in an instant. Zhijiang is home to the world's longest Dong wind-and-rain bridge—Longjin Bridge. It features an all-wood mortise-and-tenon structure and is filled with the vibrant atmosphere of local life. Yutou Dong Village is built against the mountain and is known as the "Potala Palace of Dong villages," so quiet you can only hear the sound of the stream. · Food recommendations: Hongjiang blood duck, Zhijiang duck, Qianyang duck egg noodles, and the appetizing, tangy Dong-style pickles. · Transport tips: Attractions in Huaihua are somewhat spread out, so driving is the most convenient option. You can also use the high-speed rail to travel between Zhijiang and Huaihua. 🏞️ Chenzhou: Southern grasslands in a landscape painting · Core highlights: This isn't a traditionally popular destination, but it combines stunning landscapes with alpine grasslands. At 5:00 AM, the morning mist over Little Dongjiang spreads like thin gauze, and the moment a fisherman casts his net is the ultimate pursuit for countless photographers. The Danxia landform at Gaoyiling, with its red rocks and emerald waters, looks like a palette overturned by God. Walking the "Dragon's Spine" plank road is both thrilling and perfect for photos. At an altitude of 1,300 meters, Yangtian Lake Grassland is the "Hulunbuir" of the south, complete with windmills, Hobbit huts, and free-roaming deer—it's incredibly healing. · Food recommendations: Qifengdu fish noodles (spicy and satisfying), spicy chicken pot, and Dongjiang salmon (one fish served 5 ways). · Transport tips: It's about a 1-hour direct high-speed train ride from Changsha, but the attractions are scattered, so we recommend chartering a car (about CNY 300/day). 🏰 Shaoyang (Wugang/Chengbu): A thousand-year-old royal city and pastures in the clouds · Core highlights: This treasure trove blends historical depth with natural grandeur. Wugang is the "Braised Food Capital of China" with a 2,200-year history. Its ancient city walls are said to "cover the world," and climbing Xuanfeng Tower offers a bird's-eye view of the entire living ancient city, with the scent of century-old braised dishes wafting through every old street. Chengbu Nanshan Pasture offers a completely different scene. With an average altitude of 1,760 meters and 230,000 mu of rolling alpine meadows, it's known as the "Hulunbuir of the South." In autumn, the meadows turn a golden brown, making every photo look like an oil painting. · Food recommendations: Wugang braised dishes (fragrant to the bone), blood duck, and fresh yogurt and roasted whole lamb from Nanshan Pasture. · Transport tips: Driving is recommended. The mountain roads to Nanshan Pasture are gentle and easy to drive, with healing scenery along the way. 🌉 Jishou: Canyon wonders and old dreams of the border town · Core highlights: As the capital of the Xiangxi Prefecture, Jishou is low-key but impressive. The Aizhai Wonder Tourist Area offers a one-stop experience of 3 major spectacles: the Aizhai Bridge spanning the Dehang Canyon, the thrilling cliffside plank road, and the mist-shrouded "Tianwen Terrace" at Jidou Miao Village. The waterfalls in Dehang Canyon are like silk, and the Miao village customs are simple and authentic. In the evening, head to Qianzhou Ancient Town; it's quiet and uncrowded, and you can rent traditional costumes for photos that look like you've traveled back in time. If you have time, you can also visit Chadong Ancient Town, the prototype for the "Border Town" in Shen Congwen's writing. Located at the junction of 3 provinces, you can experience the true tranquility of a border town on the traditional hand-pulled ferry. · Food recommendations: Rice tofu, Xiangxi cured meat, and spicy river snails. · Transport tips: You can take the high-speed rail to Jishou East Station. During the National Day holiday, luxury hotels are around CNY 300, offering excellent value for money.

No need to fly to Xinjiang to see grasslands, no need to go to Inner Mongolia to crowd into tourist spots, and you don't even need to leave Hunan Province—hidden atop the mountains in southwest Hunan lies a severely underrated alpine meadow. Here, the 80-li meadow stretches out like a carpet, cows graze leisurely under blue skies and white clouds, and windmills line up along the mountain ridge. This is Nanshan Pasture, a summer retreat known as the "Hulunbuir of the South." Nanshan Pasture is located in the southwest of Chengbu Miao Autonomous County, Shaoyang City, Hunan Province, at the northern foot of the Yuechengling Mountains on the Hunan-Guangxi border, with an average altitude of 1,760 meters. It is the largest modern mountain pasture in southern China and is also known as "China's No. 1 Pasture." Without the distance of Hulunbuir or the crowds of Altay, Xinjiang, a high-speed train ticket to Shaoyang and a two-hour drive up the mountain will take you into this southern grassland guarded by mountains, meadows, and windmills. 🏔️ Ziyang Peak—360° panoramic view of the vast meadows Ziyang Peak is the highest point of Nanshan Pasture and the "prime viewing spot" of the entire pasture. Upon reaching the summit, a 360° panoramic view unfolds instantly—rolling alpine meadows spread out like a giant green carpet from your feet to the horizon, herds of cows graze leisurely on the grassland, and giant windmills rotate slowly along the ridge line. The scene of "wind blowing through the grass to reveal cattle and sheep" is every bit as good as northern Xinjiang. Early morning is the highlight of Ziyang Peak. Morning mist rises slowly from the valleys, the meadows appear and disappear in the mist, and sunlight pierces through the thin fog, casting golden beams—perfect for photos. The trail is gentle and easy to walk, making it accessible for both seniors and children to reach the summit. 🌅 Dayakou—the ultimate spot for sunrise and sea of clouds Dayakou is the premier spot to watch the sunrise at Nanshan Pasture. Wake up in the dark at 5:30 AM and wait for the grassland sunrise at the summit. When the first ray of sunlight leaps over the ridge line, the entire meadow is dyed warm gold, the silhouettes of the windmills rotate slowly in the morning light, and the sea of clouds surges beneath your feet. That sense of awe cannot be captured by any filter. Evening at Dayakou is also worth waiting for—the sunset dyes the entire grassland orange-red, and the backlit silhouettes of the windmills create an incredibly atmospheric scene. 💧 Maoping Lake—alpine lake and windmill reflections Maoping Lake is the gentlest part of Nanshan Pasture. The azure lake water is embraced by emerald green meadows, and the windmills are reflected on the calm surface, like a moving oil painting. Stroll along the lakeside boardwalk, feel the breeze ripple across the water, and take in the healing blues and greens. You can feed the cows and sheep up close by the lake—a must-do for families with children. 🎖️ Gaoshan Red Sentry—a spot for retro military-style photos Gaoshan Red Sentry is the most unique check-in spot at Nanshan Pasture. The old red-brick sentry post stands atop the mountain, with retired vintage weaponry parked nearby—tanks, cannons, and fighter jets—full of retro military style. The sentry post itself is a national defense site from the 1960s and 1970s. Standing in front of it and looking out over the entire grassland, a sense of "border defense" mission naturally arises. It's great for photos, with red brick walls, old weapons, grasslands, and windmills all in one frame—a unique and niche style. 🐄 Windmill Road—a healing road along the ridge line The Windmill Road at Nanshan Pasture is the most healing part of the entire grassland. Giant white windmills line up along the ridge, and the road winds through them. Stop and take photos whenever you like; every frame is a blockbuster. In summer, roll down the windows and feel the cool breeze—grassland on your left, windmills on your right—a sense of freedom that no other scenic spot can offer. 🥛 Nanshan flavors—a pure paradise for dairy products The food at Nanshan Pasture is all about "dairy." The handmade yogurt is thick and rich, the freshly boiled milk is fragrant, and the goat milk ice cream is refreshing—all available for under CNY 10. There are also local specialties like Miao-style cured meat and alpine vegetables, with natural ingredients and simple preparation. 🛵 Two days and one night—no rushing, fully immersive Day 1: Enter the mountains + panoramic grassland view Arrive at Shaoyang Station or Dongkou Station by high-speed train → Charter a car/drive to Chengbu County (approx. 2.5 hours) → Drive up the mountain along Provincial Highway S219 (the last 30 km is a winding mountain road with many curves and steep slopes; beginners should be cautious) → Check into a homestay or yurt in Nanshan Town → Afternoon: Visit Ziyang Peak for a panoramic view of the vast meadows → Evening: Wait for the grassland sunset at Dayakou → Night: Eat farmhouse food and watch the stars Day 2: Sunrise + niche spots Early morning 5:30 AM: Summit Dayakou to watch the sunrise and sea of clouds → Morning: Walk around Maoping Lake and photograph windmill reflections → Check in at Gaoshan Red Sentry for retro military-style photos → Stop and take photos along the Windmill Road → Noon: Buy some dairy souvenirs → Afternoon: Return trip 📝 Nanshan Pasture travel guide How to get there: High-speed train + chartered car: Take a high-speed train to "Shaoyang Station" or "Dongkou Station," then charter a car or join a ride-share to Chengbu County (approx. 2.5 hours) and transfer to a vehicle to go up the mountain. You can also take a bus to Chengbu County and catch one of the two daily shuttle buses (10:00 AM/2:00 PM) up the mountain, or join a 4-person ride-share for CNY 40 per person to enter the mountain. Self-driving (recommended): Navigate to "Nanshan Pasture." It takes about 6–7 hours from Changsha and about 2.5 hours from Shaoyang to reach Chengbu, then take Provincial Highway S219 up the mountain. The last 30 km is a winding mountain road with many curves and steep slopes; beginners should be cautious. Driving at night is prohibited. Fill up your gas tank before entering the mountain. Ticket information: Peak season (May–October) is CNY 70/person; online tickets are about CNY 65. Half-price for students and seniors. Parking fee for self-driving vehicles is CNY 10–20. There are no shuttle buses in the scenic area, so self-driving or ride-sharing is most flexible. Best season: July–September offers the lushest grass and frequent sea of clouds, with an average temperature of only 19°C—a top choice for escaping the heat. September–October features golden meadows and strong autumn vibes. Accommodation recommendations: Nanshan Town homestays/yurts: Open your window to see the grassland; weekend average price starts from CNY 300. Suitable for watching the sunrise and sunset Chengbu County hotels: Average CNY 150 per person; complete facilities and high cost-performance Camping around Ziyang Peak: Excellent experience for stargazing on summer nights; be sure to stay warm and protected from the wind Essential gear: Sunscreen (strong UV rays at high altitude), windbreaker (large temperature difference between day and night, especially needed for sunrise), non-slip sports shoes (for meadow hiking), mosquito repellent, power bank. Special reminder ⚠️: The last 30 km is a winding mountain road with many curves and steep slopes; beginners should be cautious. Driving at night is prohibited. The temperature difference between day and night on the mountain is extreme; short sleeves during the day and down jackets at night are not an exaggeration. There are not many supply points in the scenic area, so bring your own snacks and water.

Who would have thought😭! Hunan hides such an alpine grassland. Rolling green grassy slopes, windmills standing on the ridges, and cows leisurely strolling on the grass. No need to travel far to Northern Xinjiang, coming between June–August is just right🌿. The average temperature is around 20°C, a natural summer retreat. This is Nanshan Pasture in Chengbu, Shaoyang! 🌤️Why you should visit between June–August? ✅The grassland is at its peak beauty💚. The mountains are covered in thick, lush green grass, with wildflowers scattered across the lawn. In other seasons, the grass turns yellowish, and the view is not as impressive. ✅A super cool summer retreat❄️. While cities are sweltering in midsummer, the pasture is comfortable and cool during the day. Escape the summer heat. ✅High chance of seeing a sea of clouds☁️. It is very easy to encounter a sea of clouds on mornings after rain. White mist flows slowly through the valleys, like a fairyland. ✅See the brilliant Milky Way at night🌌. There is almost no light pollution in the mountains. When the weather is clear, the night sky is filled with stars, creating a perfect atmosphere. ✅Herds of cows grazing🐄. The whole pasture is full of life, a healing sight. 🌟Must-visit spots ▪️Ziyang Peak🌄 The pasture's premier viewing platform! No strenuous hiking required. Standing here, you can take in the entire vast Nanshan area. Layer upon layer of green hills with windmills scattered about. The soft morning sunlight is perfect for photos. ▪️Dayakou Viewing Platform🌅 The exclusive sunrise spot! If you are willing to wake up early, you can catch the sunrise breaking through the sea of clouds. The glow covers the entire grassland. If you cannot get up, don't worry, the sunset in the evening is just as stunning. ▪️Maoping Lake💧 A tranquil lake in the mountains. The water is clear and clean. Lush grass grows on the banks, and the reflection of windmills floats on the water. Take a leisurely stroll along the wooden boardwalk around the lake. The cool breeze on your face is so relaxing. ▪️Alpine Red Outpost🏰 An old, historic outpost site. The area is open and spacious. It has a great retro vibe. Look out over the vast grassland from here and snap some amazing photos. ▪️Banliping Pasture🐮 Get up close to the cows. If you are lucky, you can taste hot, fresh milk. The lawn is wide and flat. It is a great place for a picnic or just to relax and enjoy the breeze. 🍲Must-try food ✅Nanshan handmade yogurt🥛 The pasture's signature! Rich, smooth, and milky. Perfectly sweet and tart, a must-try when you are here. ✅Stir-fried fern cake with cured meat🥓 Soft and chewy fern cake paired with smoky cured meat, an authentic Miao ethnic flavor. ✅Chengbu oil tea🍵 A unique Miao snack. With crunchy toppings and a rich flavor, it is worth a try for first-time visitors. ✅Alpine radish🥕 Grown in the high-altitude, cold pastures, it is sweet, crisp, and tender. ✅Miao-style sour soup fish🐟 The broth is tangy and appetizing. Great for cooling down and cutting through grease. ✅Handmade sticky rice cake🫓 Pan-fried fresh, soft, chewy, and sweet. 💡Travel tips & advice 1. 🚗Getting there. Driving yourself is the most worry-free option. The last 30+ km of mountain roads have many curves. Drive slowly and avoid driving up at night. Fill up your gas tank before entering the mountains, as gas stations are scarce. Public transport is a hassle; take the high-speed train to Shaoyang and then carpool up the mountain. 2. 👔What to wear! Even if you visit during the hottest days of summer, bring a windbreaker. Wear short sleeves during the day, but temperatures drop quickly at night. There is a huge temperature difference between day and night. Bring a sun hat and sunscreen, as the UV rays in the mountains are very strong. 3. 🏡Accommodation. If you want to enjoy the sunrise and starry sky, book a homestay in Nanshan Town. Rooms are in high demand during peak season, so be sure to book in advance. If you prefer better amenities, stay in Chengbu County and drive up the mountain the next day. 4. 🐄Pasture rules. Do not chase the cows or sheep. Observe them quietly from a distance. Do not step into the fenced pasture areas. 5. 🍴Dining tips. Transporting supplies to the mountains is difficult, so food prices are relatively high. Try to choose farmhouses that locals frequent. 6. 🦟Insect protection. There are many mosquitoes and bugs in the grass, so carry mosquito repellent with you. 7. 📸Best time for photos. The light is soft in the early morning and evening. The midday sun is harsh, and photos do not turn out as well. 8. ⛰️Changing weather. Mountain showers can happen anytime, so keep a folding umbrella with you. 💛Final thoughts! If you long for vast grasslands but do not have enough time to travel to Northern Xinjiang🥰. You must visit Nanshan Pasture between June–August! Rolling green meadows, slowly turning windmills, cows grazing leisurely, misty morning clouds, and a sky full of stars at night. Escape the sweltering city and head to this southern alpine grassland. Feel the cool mountain breeze and shed all your fatigue✨

Shaoyang September travel guide🍂. Let's break down the budget💰: You can have a great time for just over CNY 1,000 per person for 3 days and 2 nights✨! My round-trip high-speed train from Changsha to Shaoyang was CNY 160🚄, 2 nights of accommodation was CNY 200 (cheaper if you share a room), Langshan joint ticket CNY 136 + Nanshan Pasture CNY 55 = CNY 191 for tickets, daily average of CNY 80 for rice noodles and local meals, and CNY 50 for shared car rental in the city. Overall, it didn't break the bank🍃~ The weather in Shaoyang in September is cool🌤️, with daytime highs of 26–29°C and lows of 17–21°C🧥. There's a bit of rain at the beginning of the month, and the temperature difference between day and night is significant. Short sleeves during the day + a jacket at night is the standard. Honestly, if you don't bring a jacket, you'll really suffer🥶. 🏨 Accommodation tips (no-fail recommendations) For your arrival in the city, I recommend the Daxiang District/Shuangqing District🚄. The Weiyuan International Hotel has a new Chinese style and even includes a tea set, starting from CNY 136—super friendly for lazy travelers🍵. There are plenty of chain hotel options in the CNY 100–200+ price range nearby. Book on Trip.com a week in advance; weekend prices spike, so don't wait until the day of❌. Homestays at the foot of Langshan are CNY 200–300/night; choose these if you want to open your window and see Danxia landforms🌄. For Nanshan Pasture, if you want to see the stars, book a grassland homestay for CNY 150–250/night. However, in September, I don't recommend booking the cheapest yurts without air conditioning; you'll wake up freezing in the middle of the night and lose your mind⛺. 💰 Popular price guide Langshan Line B adult package ticket is CNY 136🎫, including Tianyi Lane + Lajiao Peak + Bajiaozhai + Zixiadong, valid for 3 days. Nanshan National Park ticket is CNY 136 for two, and CNY 33 for students🎓. My top money-saving tips👇: Use your student ID for high-speed train discounts. The Langshan joint ticket saves 40% compared to buying individual tickets. I highly recommend driving or chartering a car🚙; the distance between county attractions is long and the mountain roads are winding—taking the bus will drive you crazy. 🚶 My lazy itinerary (no-rushing version) Day 1️⃣: Danxia wonder route🏞️ Changsha → Shaoyang → Langshan. Spend the afternoon exploring Bajiaozhai to see the Danxia peaks🌅. Honestly, I was stupid enough to try to visit all the Langshan spots in one day, and my legs suffered to the point of collapse🦵. Later, I switched to the lazy version—only picking Bajiaozhai + Tianyi Lane, and doing a night tour with lanterns to see the Danxia light and shadows in the evening. Stay at a Langshan homestay and eat authentic firewood-smoked bacon🥩. Day 2️⃣: Grassland pastoral route🐄 Finish Langshan's Lajiao Peak + Tianyi Lane in half a day, then drive to Chengbu Nanshan Pasture in the afternoon🌿. With 230,000 mu of grassland, herds of cattle and sheep, and slowly turning windmills, every photo looks like a Windows desktop background📸. Drink freshly boiled milk at the pasture restaurant🥛, paired with yogurt cheese—dairy lovers will be thrilled! Stay in a pasture yurt⛺. Day 3️⃣: Cultural secret route🏛️ After watching the sunrise at Nanshan → Huangsang Nature Reserve → Suining Ancient City to wear Miao costumes for photos (CNY 30/hour)📷. In the afternoon, return to the city to visit the Baoqing Ancient City Wall (free) + Beita. In the evening, head to the Hongqi Road Night Market to gnaw on Wugang braised snacks and slurp Shaoyang rice noodles🍜. The noodles are smooth, the soup is fresh, and adding a spoonful of chili oil will wake you up instantly🌶️. 🍜 Foodie hits (CNY 10–30 per person) 🌟 Must-eat breakfast: Shaoyang rice noodles, thick noodles + beef topping, Old Street Hui Rice Noodle Shop, about CNY 15/bowl 🌟 Signature dish recommendation: Blood duck🦆, the duck meat is sour, spicy, and crispy; the version with mountain pepper oil at Longhui Old Stove is amazing, about CNY 50/serving 🌟 Night market must-visit: Dongfeng Road Night Market for super spicy flavored shrimp + Nanmenkou sugar oil baba 🌟 Souvenirs: Pork blood balls (look for the Tantou Liu family traditional smoked ones)🥩 💡 Traveler's notes · The temperature difference in September is large, so bring a windbreaker. Wear non-slip shoes in Langshan👟; there's a high chance of seeing a sea of clouds after the rain🌧️ · The Langshan joint ticket is valid for 3 days; don't be silly and buy individual attraction tickets · Wild rock fungus priced below CNY 80/jin might be artificial, so don't be greedy for a bargain · Chartering a car is about CNY 300/day; splitting it between 2–3 people is ten thousand times more comfortable than taking the bus🚗 · Booking hotels, checking tickets, and reading reviews can all be done with one click on Trip.com—a godsend for lazy travelers📱 Honestly, Shaoyang, this hidden gem in central Hunan, is severely underrated💎. Visiting in September is neither crowded nor hot. A slow three-day trip won't break the bank🥹. Follow my itinerary, and if anyone complains about suffering, I'll really lose it!😂

Known as the "Hulunbuir of the South," Nanshan Pasture is a wonderful summer getaway. We recommend a two-day trip to take it slow. Driving is the best option, as you can drive directly into the scenic area. The peak season admission ticket is CNY 70. The mountain road has many curves, so please drive slowly and remember to fill up your gas tank before entering. Must-visit spots include Ziyang Peak for panoramic grassland views, Dayakou for sunrise and the sea of clouds, and a stroll around Maoping Lake. The windmills against the grassland make for great photos, and you can also try feeding cows or horseback riding. There is a significant temperature difference on the mountain. Even during the hottest summer days, it gets cold in the morning and evening, so be sure to bring a thick jacket. The UV rays are strong, so pack sunscreen and mosquito repellent. For accommodation, you can choose a B&B on the mountain to see the stars at night, or stay in Chengbu County for better value. Be sure to try some of the local yogurt and dairy products. Please do not chase the cattle or sheep, and help protect the grassland. Public transportation is not very convenient, so we do not recommend taking a bus if you are short on time. Take it slow and enjoy the relaxing vibe of the alpine grassland.

When people mention Hunan, the first things that come to mind are Changsha and Zhangjiajie, but I have to say, Shaoyang has been truly underrated for too long! 🌿 It's not overly crowded here. Instead, you'll find a sense of relaxation amidst the mountains and waters, the vibrant atmosphere of old streets, and those moments where you just feel healed as you walk along. After visiting Shaoyang 5 times, I've discovered the best way to experience this city: don't rush your itinerary. Just stroll slowly, eat slowly, and slowly soak in the little joys of southwest Hunan. ❤️ Especially in August, although the weather is on the hot side, the coolness in the mountains and the lush, green scenery still make it worth a trip. 🌄 Must-visit highlights in Shaoyang | Don't miss these places 📍 Langshan Scenic Area If it's your first time in Shaoyang, you must include Langshan! The Danxia landforms here are truly stunning, with layers upon layers of red peaks. Looking down from the summit feels like viewing a "work of art sculpted by nature." Best photo spots 📸: You must go to Bajiaozhai! When it's cloudy or misty, the peaks appear and disappear, making every shot look like a masterpiece. A small tip: Don't just check off the observation decks. The hiking trails along the way are also worth exploring. Taking your time to watch the mountains and clouds feels much better than rushing through the sights. 📍 Chengbu Nanshan Pasture This is a place I still love after visiting several times 🍃. Nanshan is especially comfortable in summer, with grasslands, windmills, cattle, sheep, and vast green hillsides. It doesn't feel like Hunan at all; it's more like a little "grassland" hidden in the south. Healing moment: Sitting on the grass in the evening, watching the sun slowly set, and feeling the breeze—you really feel life slowing down. 📍 Huangsang National Nature Reserve If you love niche natural scenery, be sure to save this!
