I came to Chengdu thinking pandas, hotpot and city sightseeing… I definitely did NOT expect this. 😂 A friend randomly recommended Xiling Snow Mountain (西岭雪山) to me, and because I had nothing planned that day, I decided to just go. No research, no proper winter gear — I literally booked a DiDi from Chengdu and went. 😂 A few hours later, I somehow ended up at Riyueping (日月坪), 3,250m above sea level, standing above an incredible sea of clouds. 🥹☁️🏔️ Honestly, I was blown away. 🚠 Getting up: You’ll need to take the Yuanyangchi Cable Car (鸳鸯池索道) first, followed by the Riyueping Cable Car (日月坪索道) if you want to reach the 3,250m viewpoint. 💰 Budget: I’d prepare around RMB300+ for the scenic area and cable cars, excluding transport, food and any snow activities. Prices can change depending on the season, so check before visiting. ❄️ For snow: I went in late January and there was still plenty of snow! If seeing snow is your priority, December to early/mid-January is a good period to consider, but always check the latest conditions because snowfall isn’t guaranteed. 🥾 And PLEASE wear proper shoes. Because this was such an impromptu trip, I only had my normal sneakers. Bad decision. 😂 Some parts were really slippery with snow and ice, and I spent way too much time concentrating on not falling. Proper shoes with good grip would have made things MUCH easier. The funniest part is that this wasn’t even on my Chengdu itinerary.
