Chiryu Shrine Festival or Chiryu Festival is an important event that decorates in early summer. The main festival and the festival during the Matsuri are held every year on May 2nd and 3rd. This festival has a long history dating back to the Edo period (1653) "Nakamachi Festival Book" and is characterized by Bunraku and Karakuri puppet performances on floats. The structure of the float has 2 floors, and the inner wheel is made of a large pine tree cut into a circle. It is similar in shape to the floats from Chitta district, but is carved with gold leaf and is only on the back. Chiryu City has flourished as a transportation hub since ancient times, and is famous for the Kamakura Kaido built in the Kamakura period, the Ikegoi Carp Gate, the 39th post town on the Tokaido in the Edo period, and for its horse market. Traces of the Tokaido from the Edo period can still be seen in the city. In the Edo period, it was written as Chiryu (carp in the pond), and the furigana in the historical Kana usage was “Chirifu”. Chiryu Park is famous for its irises, which were given as gifts by the Emperor and Empress Meiji, and this is the main reason why many people visit this festival every year. In addition to the beautiful flowers, you can enjoy various cultural events, tea parties, take photos, and see traditional “karakuri” dolls. I visited Chiryu Shrine in Aichi Prefecture. The information board states that Chiryu Shrine is one of the leading shrines on the Tokaido. It is one of the three major shrines on the Tokaido (Mishima, Atsuta, and Ikorifuna) and flourished as a temple town. Ikorifunajuku, which flourished around the shrine, was also a bustling post town on the Tokaido 53 Stations, and the temple town that stretches to the south of Chiryu Shrine still retains faint traces of the old Tokaido, where Ryounji Temple is located. It is now located under National Route 1 and the elevated National Route 155, so I couldn't see the shrine while passing by, and passed it by without stopping, but the area where the old Tokaido was located has a charming atmosphere that preserves the history of Ikorifunajuku, with the remains of Chiryu Castle, Ikorifuna Daimyojin all-night light, and nostalgic old town houses with blackboard walls. Within the shrine grounds is the Tahoto Pagoda, a nationally designated important cultural property. It is a structure from the Muromachi period and is very worth seeing. The other structures were constructed from the late Edo period through the Showa period, but the shrine building layout in Owari style, which is rare in the Mikawa region, has led to it being designated as a national registered tangible cultural property. One of the best shrines in Tokaido and on the information board Chiryu Shrine is counted as one of the three major shrines of Tokaido (Mishima, Atsuta, and Ike-Koi-Funa) and flourished as a temple town. Ike-Koi Funashuku, south of Chiryu-jinja Shrine, still remains the traces of the old Tokaido, where Ryounji Temple is located. It is now located under National Route 1 and National Route 155, so we did not see the shrine when passing by and did not stop. But in the area where the old Tokaido stood, there are ruins of the castle and an old well. Chiryu Shrine is the second shrine in Mikawa Prefecture, and it is said that in the third year of Kasho (850 AD), Jingu-ji Temple was built on the ground and a pair of pagodas were built. Shiryu Festival 知立祭 Each float, which is 7 meters high and weighs 5 tons, is brought from five cities to participate in the festival. At the Hommatsuri Festival held every two years, the floats roll through the streets as if they are about to crush the eaves of houses one by one. The floats head to the shrine to the sound of festival songs called "Kamimai" and performances of bunraku and karakuri on the floats. The annual Shiseki Yatsuhashi Kakitsubata Matsuri Flower Festival attracts around 160,000 visitors from all over Japan from late April to late May.

I went to Asahi no Yu, a super public bath in Chiryu, Aichi Prefecture. They don't have a website, but the fee is about 500 yen on weekdays. The sauna is different, and there is a space where you can lie down, so about 3-4 people were enjoying the sauna while lying down.
