Travel Artists! Visit the Yazilikaya Hittite Temple for an Evocative Historical Experience!
#adventuremoments #travel #turkiye #travel #türkiyetravel #ancient_city #Ancient #thingstodo #myitinerary #museums #ancienttomb
Yazilikaya is an ancient Hittite sanctuary hidden in a Rock Temple. The galleries of the reliefs are easy to follow and the entrance to the large ravine is to the left of the temple foundations. The strange and evocative inscriptions are very unusual. The fashions of the gods and goddesses depicted are unlike Greek, Roman or Egyptian. There are a vast array of Hittite deities wearing strange shoes, hats and clothing. In the smaller ravine is a ‘sword god’ with lions heads and sun depictions. A truly remarkable adventure and no crowds! Fantastic opportunity for artists and designers particularly in textiles and fashion! As a lone female I was perfectly safe and the guardian of the site was very helpful. There is a small craft market where you can buy craft items made locally🏛️
The images are captured on the site and present the remarkable reliefs that the visitor can see. The site may have been an important stop point on the Silk Road and this was a purposeful visit.
🕰️Business Hours: 9-5pm
💰Average Price per Person: £5 entrance and I combine the trip with Hattusa.

Hattusa is a very impressive and significant ancient city of the Hittite Empire. Very remote in beautiful countryside it is an exciting visit. The Lions Gate so so impressive and larger than I expected it to be. Your imagination is set alight by the vastness of the site. The site dates to before 2000BC and many of the artefacts found are in the Anatolian Museum in Ankara. In Bogazkale there is a very impressive museum with many objects from the site. A fantastic inspiring place to visit if you are an artist and designer as you can paint and sketch on site. There are no crowds of tourists here, it’s an amazingly remote spot where you can explore. The images show much of the site, The Great Temple, Lions Gate, Earth Gate, kings Gate and great Fortress. I especially enjoyed the carved gods and warrior kings, very ancient.
Really off the beaten track, a special visit for brave travellers
