I spent 4 days and 3 nights in Boracay, which I think is the perfect amount of time for a first trip. It gave me enough time for beaches, island hopping, sunsets, nightlife and some relaxing moments. ✈️ How to get from Manila to Boracay The easiest route is flying from Manila to Caticlan Airport (MPH). ✈️ Manila → Caticlan: around 1 hour 💰 Flight: approximately ₱1,500–4,000 (US$26–70) one way, depending on the airline and booking time. From Caticlan Airport, take a van or tricycle to the port, around 10–15 minutes. 🚤 Caticlan Port → Boracay Take a short boat ride to Cagban Port, around 10–15 minutes. From there, take a tricycle, van or hotel transfer to your accommodation. A complete airport-to-hotel transfer usually costs around ₱500–1,000 (US$9–17) depending on the package. Tip: Caticlan is much more convenient than Kalibo because it is closer to Boracay. ❤️ Day 1 — White Beach & Sunset After checking in, I headed straight to White Beach. Station 1 is quieter and more upscale. Station 2 is the busiest, with restaurants, shops and nightlife. Station 3 is more relaxed and peaceful. I stayed around Station 2 because it was convenient for everything. If you visit Boracay, you can choose to fly to the closer Caticlan MPH Airport or the further Kalibo Airport. Caticlan seems to be a more convenient but more expensive. After your flight arrives, you can take tricycle to Tabon Port or walk 2km. Note that the boat to Boracay now leaves from Tabon Port, NOT Caticlan Port like in the past. I made a mistake by going to Caticlan Port first and realised that it is more for RORO and other marine purposes. By this mistake, I had an opportunity to see the Caticlan Town a bit. It is the last place you can stock up some food and essential items before you get on a boat to Boracay, where everything is expensive.

For me, the Philippines is not about just one place. Many of the islands here are completely different — in their nature, rhythm, and atmosphere. And they are magnificent! I completely fell in love with the Philippines, and that feeling stayed with me throughout my entire trip. The sea, the animals, the nature — I felt in harmony with all of it. 🏝️ How it’s started. My journey began in Manila, I arrived late night and unfortunately, I didn’t manage to see anything in Manila because I had a morning flight. The first island I visited was Boracay — a beautiful island with white beaches, clear blue water and a relaxed holiday atmosphere. After that, I headed to Panglao and Bohol, besides the beaches, there is also plenty of beautiful nature to explore around the island. There I saw rare animals, went snorkeling, and took a river cruise. I also managed to visit Cebu, where one of the most unforgettable moments of my entire journey happened — I had the chance to swim with whale sharks. ✈️ In the Philippines, the journey itself is part of the trip. One of the important parts of this journey for me was travelling between the islands. The Philippines consists of countless islands, so when you travel from one to another, sometimes you have to use almost every possible type of transport: ✈️ Plane → 🚗 Transfer → ⛴️ Ferry/Boat → 🚗 Transfer → 🏨 Hotel The first interesting route was my journey to Boracay. There is no airport on Boracay itself, so everyone arriving by plane first flies to the neighbouring island of Panay, to Caticlan, where the airport is located. It is often called the “gateway to Boracay.” From the airport, you need to get to the seaport, take a boat to Boracay, and then travel from the port to your hotel. It may sound complicated, but in reality everything is very well organised, so there is really no need to worry. After Boracay, I travelled to Panglao, but there are practically no convenient direct flights between them. The most practical option for me was to fly to the neighbouring island of Cebu. From the airport, I travelled to the ferry terminal and then took a ferry to Panglao. My choice of this island wasn’t accidental. Panglao became my starting point for the activities I wanted to experience during this part of the trip. For my return journey, I also booked my flight from Cebu. I travelled back to Cebu by ferry and then took a taxi to my hotel. I stayed in Lapu-Lapu City to be closer to the airport. Here, I finally had some time to walk around and experience the atmosphere, appearance and rhythm of the city. The streets are busy and full of local life. You can see people spending time outside their homes, and everyday life happens right on the streets. The only downside was the traffic and exhaust fumes. After walking around for a while, you could really feel the dust and pollution on your skin. 💙 How I Remember the Philippines Boracay — white-sand beaches and the beautiful island views the Philippines are famous for. Panglao & Bohol — the sea, beautiful nature and a different side of the Philippines. Cebu — swimming with whale sharks and seeing everyday local life. And perhaps that is exactly why I remember the Philippines as being so different — bright, slightly chaotic, incredibly beautiful, and somehow never feeling like a journey through just one country. As the plane descended, a thin, light-colored ribbon floated beneath the window, nestled between the deep blue sea—that was the white sand beach. 🛬 A five-minute tuk-tuk ride from Caticlan airport to the pier, the outrigger boats' engines hummed, leaving trails of white water in their wake. The seawater changed from murky to clear, revealing ripples on the sandy bottom. The first thing I did upon reaching the shore was kick off my shoes. My feet touched the fine sand; it felt effortless, like walking on warm starch. 🌙 That evening, I did two things: walked back and forth along the shore several times, then wandered into the alleys looking for mango smoothies, so thick that it took ages to sip them with a straw. I went out at six in the morning the next day. S1 beach was almost deserted, except for two locals hauling in their fishing nets. The wet sand after the tide receded was smooth as a mirror; with each step, fine sand squeezed out between my toes, leaving not a single grain on my skin. In the morning, we circled around to Our Lady of the Reef. At low tide, the entire base was exposed. We climbed up using both hands and feet, and sat on the top, the waves just reaching our knees. 🌊 At 3:30 PM, we found a non-motorized sailboat. The boatman held the sail with one hand, the boat tilting almost to the water's edge; sitting sideways, we could easily reach out and touch the waves. The sun changed from a blinding yellow to orange-red, then sank to just a semicircle on the horizon, darkening much faster than we expected. On the third day, we went island hopping by boat. The bow of the boat was raised high, and after twenty minutes, we stopped in a coral reef area. We put on our masks, flipped over, and went into the water. Purple and green corals were piled up in a maze, and schools of small yellow-tailed fish swirled around the crevices of the rocks. If we stretched out our fingers, they would scatter for a few seconds and then gather back. 🐠 At noon, we came to a small sandbar with only a few coconut trees. The sand was coarse and uncomfortable on our feet, but the tide had brought up many pieces of coral. We collected two pieces to take home. In the afternoon, we ventured into the Crystal Cave. The entrance was so narrow we had to squeeze in sideways. The water inside was as still as glass, and the textures of the rocks below were clearly visible. On the fourth day, we hired a tuk-tuk to head north to Puka Beach. The waves were big there, and the broken seashells had been washed into a thick layer. Squatting down to sift through them, we found small, rounded snail shells with spiral patterns on their surfaces. In the afternoon, we climbed Mount Luho. The dirt road wound its way through seven or eight bends, and the wind howled through our collars at the summit. Looking south, the white sand beach looked like a long, thin white ribbon, with the sea on either side a deep, almost blackish blue. As for food—we picked out a large prawn and a blue crab at the market and had the vendor sauté them with butter and garlic. The prawn shells were charred, and the meat inside was springy and delicious. Pork skewers were grilled on iron racks by the roadside, brushed with sweet sauce, dripping oil and emitting white smoke from the charcoal fire—ten pesos a skewer. Coco Mama's coconut shell ice cream had chunks of coconut meat at the bottom, which we ate with mango sauce. There was also a small shop selling hot and sour beef soup; the broth was clear, and we could easily eat two bowls of rice with it. 🍚 Remember a few things—Visa-free entry requires arrival in Manila or Cebu; fill out the e-arrival code and take a screenshot beforehand. Flying to Catiqueland is the fastest; the pier is right outside the airport. Flying to Kalibo will add two hours to your journey by minibus. Negotiate the price of a tuk-tuk before getting in, and try to cut it in half. When people on the beach ask for photos with you while building sand sculptures, ask about the tip before smiling. Apply sunscreen to the backs of your feet and behind your ears; these are the easiest areas to forget, and you'll get redness and blisters after sunburn. No need to make a must-see list for Boracay. Just wake up, go barefoot, and head towards whichever wave looks best. 🌅

Arriving in Katiqlan at 4:30 AM, the airport was tiny, like a bus station. A tuk-tuk bumped into the pier; the moon was still high in the sky, the sea a hazy gray. A small outrigger boat spun out of the harbor in the dark, the engine noise drowning out all sleepiness. Water splashed from the bow onto the back of my hand, a chill running down my spine. Arriving on the island, it was just getting light. Barefoot on the wet sand of S1, the low tide allowed me to walk for hundreds of meters on the mudflats. The water only reached my ankles, and looking down, I saw dense ripples on the sand, like fingerprints left by the tide. In the distance, several local children squatted in the shallows, digging into the sand to unearth a palm-sized starfish, its five points slowly curling up before they gently put it back. The sun rose from the east of the island, turning the entire shallow area a pale gold. The waves receded and rose, and the small puddles on the sand shimmered like shattered mirrors. I didn't rush to see any tourist attractions the first day. In the morning, I slowly walked north along the shore, passing the very end of Station 1. As the tide receded, numerous small ponds were revealed among the reefs, each teeming with tiny fish, their shadows shimmering against the rocky walls. At noon, I turned into the backstreet of D’mall, where vendors sold fried bananas and roasted chicken legs under tin sheds. The honey-brushed skin was crispy, and the sweet juice seeped into the meat with every bite. In the afternoon, I rented a surfboard and paddled in the shallows. The waves weren't big, but my body rose and fell with the current. When my ears weren't submerged, the world suddenly went silent, leaving only the sound of my own breathing. The next day, I hired a tuk-tuk to head north to Bulabog Beach. It was windy there, and several people in tight-fitting clothes were bouncing on the water with giant kites, the strings buzzing in the wind. Sitting on the beach watching them somersault and splash half a meter high upon landing was more thrilling than any performance. 🪁 Just around the corner from Bulabog is Puka, where the shell fragments are thicker. Squatting down and rummaging through them, you can find rounded gray conch shells with natural round holes in the center. Locals are stringing them together into simple necklaces and selling them from a wooden stick for only 30 pesos. On the third day, we didn't go out to sea. I slept in, rented a beat-up mountain bike in the S3 area, and rode along the dirt road by the sea to its end. There, a small stretch of black rocky shore lay, waves crashing against the rocks, spraying salty mist onto my face. 🌊 On the way back, we circled around to the back of Mount Luho. There's a trail that's more thrilling than the steps on the front; you have to use your hands and feet, pulling yourself up by holding onto tree roots. The wind at the top can make you lean back. Standing there looking down, the white sand beach looks like a winding rice noodle, sandwiched between two pieces of dark blue jelly. On the last morning, I went to the low tide mudflats of Station 1 again. This time, I saw countless tiny sand balls emerging from the sand, pushed out by crabs digging burrows. The radiating crawling marks around the burrows looked like an abstract painting done with a thin stick. 🦀 Regarding food—besides buying seafood from the market and having it cooked myself, I also tried Andok's roasted chicken. The skin was thin and the meat tender; I tore off pieces and wrapped them in garlic rice. There was a small cart selling shaved ice at the alley entrance, topped with purple sweet potato puree and condensed milk, called halo-halo. Scooping to the bottom revealed coconut jelly and beans. There was also a stall selling only coconut water; they chopped open a green coconut, poured the contents into a plastic bag, inserted a straw, and carried it with you. After drinking, you could scrape off the tender meat inside to eat. A few practical tips—the exchange rate at the airport is worse than on the island; exchange only enough to cover the transportation costs, and find a currency exchange on the island. Cell phone signal is weak on White Beach Station 1, but better towards Station 2. Tuk-tuk drivers will be soliciting passengers at the pier exit. Don't rush to get on; walk about 20 meters further before hailing one, and the price will be halved. On the beach, people will offer seashell crafts; if you don't want them, just wave and smile, they won't pester you. Remember to apply sunscreen between your toes and behind your ears, as these areas will be the first to turn red when you shower. Boracay is best experienced without a map; wake up with the tide and go out with the sunset. 🌅

Bend down and you can find small spiral shells, their walls polished shiny by the sea.🐚 Mount Luho isn’t tall—about a 10-minute hike on a dirt path. From the top, the island looks like a slender fish, the white sand beach a white line on its belly, with deep blue water on both sides. Here’s a rough itinerary—settle in at S2 the afternoon you arrive, then at night explore the narrow alleys of D’mall, where the smell of teppanyaki smoke mingles with sweet mango everywhere. The next day, walk along the white sand beach from S1 to S3. At low tide, circle around the Virgin Rock; the wet steps on the reef lead to the top where you can sit for a while, the waves just reaching your feet. On day three, island hop by boat. When snorkeling, look down to see blue-striped fish swimming in circles around the coral, unbothered by people. The crystal-clear water in the caves of Crystal Island requires bending down to enter, where you can spot tiny crabs crawling in the cracks. On day four, rent a tricycle for a trip to Bulabog Beach, where the wind is strong and the waves crash loudly on the shore—a completely different world from the white sand beach. On the last morning, walk the sand one more time before leaving before noon. No need for complicated meals—pick a green crab at D’Talipapa market and point to garlic stir-fry; the vendor ties it up with straw before weighing.
