The problem with Seomun Market is deciding what to eat first. It's a very local looking spot with everyday types of eateries. I started with the idea of just trying a couple of things, but there are food stalls everywhere selling tteokbokki, fish cakes, dumplings, sundae and freshly cooked snacks. Hotteok was the one I'd definitely make room for. Getting it straight from the stall while it's still hot and crisp is much better than treating it as something to grab on the way out. The market is huge, so I'd resist filling up at the first stall you see. Walk around first, see what looks busy with locals and then come back for a few smaller portions. There are entire sections beyond food too, but wandering between the counters and trying different snacks was easily the most enjoyable part for me. Built within Pallet-ro (Laundry) Park, which was once a traditional laundry site in Daegu, stands the uniquely designed [Apsan Sunset Observatory]. The distinctive shape of the observatory is said to symbolize the appearance of wringing out laundry. You can reach it from Daegu city center via bus or about a 15-minute walk from Daemyeong Station (Subway Line 1). Although the observatory stands 13 meters high, the well-maintained, gentle slope makes for a very easy and comfortable walk. I enjoyed a panoramic view of the city including Daegu Tower— it felt incredibly open and refreshing! The site is open until 10 PM and is known as a premier spot for night views. I was disappointed to miss the night scenery this time. It’s the perfect day trip itinerary because you can enjoy exhibitions, relax in beautiful spaces, and try a unique local dish. The highlight of this trip was definitely the Daegu Kansong Art Museum. The building and the surrounding scenery are incredibly serene and beautiful. Since they are currently holding a special exhibition, it’s even more worth a visit if you have an interest in traditional Korean or ancient art. The interior is designed to help you focus on the artwork within the dimly lit galleries, which was truly impressive. I recommend taking your time to soak it all in rather than rushing through. 🎨 Since the Daegu Art Museum is right next to the Kansong Art Museum, it’s easy to visit both together. The cafe inside the Daegu Art Museum also exceeded my expectations! The floor-to-ceiling windows look out onto trees and water, and the high ceilings make the space feel incredibly open and airy. It’s a great spot to relax over a cup of coffee, and the cafe itself is so pretty that it’s worth staying for a while after exploring the galleries. ☕️🌿 For lunch or dinner, I recommend Jonggajip!
