This ancient city is located 35 km away from the photogenic Turkish town of Datça, right where the Aegean and Mediterranean seas meet. The panoramic views here are absolutely mesmerizing! If you're into photography, you'll discover plenty of unique spots for capturing unforgettable shots. At first glance, Knidos felt a bit like a construction site. But as we looked closer, we started noticing the informational plaques alongside scattered fragments of columns and statues. One of the main highlights is the ancient theater, which still holds onto its historical charm. The Temple of Aphrodite and the sundial are also definitely worth checking out. There isn’t a strict set route here; instead, you'll find plenty of trails to explore. With all the informational signs around, finding your way is a breeze.

At the very tip of the Datça Peninsula, where the Aegean and Mediterranean seas meet, stands the Knidos Lighthouse. Quiet and windswept, it seems to continue the ancient history of this place, once the hub of one of the most famous cities of antiquity. We arrived here along the Carian Way, a route that reveals not only nature but also the past, step by step. Knidos, founded by the Carians as early as the 7th century BC, was once an important center of science, trade, and culture. Eudoxus of Cnidus, one of the first to attempt to describe the structure of the world, calculate the movement of the planets, and even to represent the Earth with climatic zones, worked here. Later, the city was moved closer to the sea to Cape Crio, and it was this "new" Knidos that became famous. Its harbors accommodated merchant and military vessels, and the Temple of Aphrodite attracted travelers from all over the ancient world. They say many ships called here not for business, but to see Praxiteles' legendary statue of Aphrodite—the first nude goddess in art history. Today, all that remains of its former glory are ruins, wind, and endless views. I never saw the goddess; she was lost in the Byzantine era. But there's something equally precious here: a sense of the edge of the world, where history dissolves into the horizon, and the sea merges with the sky. Rasimpaşa, Kadıköy on the Asian side is my favorite area in Istanbul. It’s easy to get around, full of great cafés, and has a very European, artistic vibe. Many creative people live here, and if I lived in Istanbul, this would definitely be the suburb I’d choose. There are amazing bakeries, lots of backpackers staying around this area, and a really relaxed atmosphere. If you want to go clothes shopping, Çilek Sokak is a great option and it’s very close to Rasimpaşa.

You can get here from the Marmaris bus station by dolmuş or a large, comfortable bus. ⚠️ Important: If you plan to return by dolmuş, arrive early. Seats are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis, and payment is made directly to the driver (cash or by transport card). 🌸 The best time to visit is late April and May. Eski Datca is a relatively unspoilt seaside resort located in southwestern Türkiye. Not only is it a tourist destination, it also offers a wealth of tourist activities and gourmet food experiences. Visitors can enjoy seafood feasts, explore local markets and go shopping.

The first known indigenous people were the Carians, and this period was also the most glorious period of the peninsula. The Dorians came south through Thrace and Greece to the present-day Datka Peninsula in 1000 BC and established the center of the Knidosian civilization in Burgas, 1.5 kilometers northeast of the present-day town center. The Dacsa Peninsula is popular with tourists, especially those who enjoy sailing trips, as it has many beautiful bays and islets of various sizes, which are promoted as blue cruises along the southwest coast of Turkey. Sailing boats usually depart from Bodrum, Marmaris, or Datsa. On the afternoon of our arrival, our Spanish friend who was exploring the Peninsula Bay by sailboat also sailed from Marmaris to the Teca Yacht Club Pier. We also took the opportunity to visit the boat and have dinner. I feel that the current domestic tourism methods are unique in the world. A Turkish friend spent seven full days sailing around the peninsula, and only the bay part.
