If you are looking for a place to "touch" history and immerse yourself in the ancient space, then Hue Imperial City is definitely a stop not to be missed when coming to the ancient capital. I just had the opportunity to visit here and was really attracted by the grandeur but still very quiet, making every step feel like being lost in the golden past of the Nguyen Dynasty. Hue Imperial City is a cluster of relics including the Imperial City (where the king held court and worked) and the Forbidden Purple City (where the king and the royal family lived). The Imperial City includes Ngo Mon Gate, Thai Hoa Palace. The Forbidden Purple City is an area reserved for the king and the royal family, including Dai Cung Mon, Ta Vu and Huu Vu, Can Chanh Palace, Thai Binh Lau, Dien Tho Palace... You should go early to avoid the harsh sunlight and have more time to visit because the Imperial City is quite large and easy to get lost. The weather in April when I went, Hue was quite hot, the sun was scary but the photos were beautiful. June-August will probably be even hotter. If you want to see Hue poetic and sad, you can go in September-October. We visited Thuy Xuan Incense Village in Hue and were instantly drawn in by the colors and scent of handmade incense. It was so much fun exploring the village, trying different types of incense, and chatting with local artisans. We took tons of photos, but more than that, we truly appreciated the cultural beauty and tradition behind each stick of incense.

Get to Hue by train is very enjoyable trip, the train will take you through Hai Van pass, run by the ocean and let you slowly enjoy the view. They will make one stop in Lang Co Bay and you are allowed to get out, have a look at the view and buy some snacks called “bánh bột lọc” (the 5th picture). It’s really good. By night, you can enjoy the live traditional Vietnam music on the dragon boat in Huong river. The train ticket costs 190k VND (~8€) for one way trip. We chose Cafe Mémorie Railway French Cafe☕️. The cafe itself is a century-old French building with a colonial-style exterior. It combines watching trains and drinking coffee. In short, it is a tourist attraction built for tourists, allowing multiple experiences to be satisfied at once. The decoration of the cafe is very eye-catching. No matter which angle you take photos from, they look good, and every photo is a wonderful one. In addition to coffee and tea, Cafe Mémorie also provides cakes, snacks, and ice cream. This city beautifully preserves its traditions and harmonizes with nature, offering mountains, beaches, historical sites, and unique craft villages. Staying at Anhill Boutique Hue, slightly away from the city center, allowed us to enjoy a serene day surrounded by lush pine trees and fresh air. The hotel welcomed us with charming touches, from personalized door signs to a small in-room birthday celebration. Despite the rain, we captured stunning photos around the resort’s pool, koi pond, bar, and restaurant, all exuding a timeless Eastern charm.

The entrance fee to Hue Province is 200,000 VND (about 18,000 KRW) to see only Hue Province, and there are various packages. For example, if you combine the package of Hue Province-Minh Mang-My Dinh, it will cost 420,000 VND (about 23,000 KRW). I heard that it would be hard to see all of Hue Province, but when I actually went there, I thought it would be hard to see all of Hue Province, so I bought the 200,000 VND (about 18,000 KRW) entrance fee. The weather was so good that it was scorching hot that I couldn't see every corner. Even if you look at it roughly, it's hard. However, for those who are interested in the palace, I recommend the package. However, for those who are not that interested in the palace, I recommend the 200,000 dong (about 18,000 won) ticket. After seeing the palace in the middle, you can go out for lunch, eat, and come back to tour the palace. And the Korean audio guide that explains the palace in Korean costs 100,000 dong (about 5,000 won), but you only listen to it for about 3 places at first and don't use it much. I prepared it because I thought it would be perfect for taking my in-laws. I purchased transportation online, and I booked the VIP seat, which is the best seat, for a round trip of 170,000 VND = about 9,000 KRW in a 9-seater van that looked like it had just been selected. They picked me up at my hotel and dropped me off at my hotel when I went back, so it was convenient. It took about 3 hours, and they picked up guests in the middle. I left a note asking to be dropped off at Vincom Plaza Hue, so I got off at Vincom Plaza Hue and walked to the Hue Palace ticket office. It takes about 25 minutes to walk, but it wasn’t that difficult because I walked slowly while sightseeing. After seeing all of Hue Citadel, I ate, had tea, and returned to the main entrance of Vincom Plaza Hue at 5 PM. I was there 30 minutes early, but they said they arrived a little after 5 PM. If you calculate the cost of seeing Hue Citadel, it was 9,000 KRW for a round-trip pick-up vehicle + 200,000 VND (about 18,000 KRW) for the entrance fee to Hue Citadel alone = about 20,000 KRW. If you look at the Hue tour packages sold by travel agencies, they say it costs about 50,000 KRW for a vehicle + English tour guide + 1 bottle of water per person + lunch + Hue Citadel and Khai Dinh Tomb entrance fees.
