Redefining Arctic Luxury
As more high-net-worth travelers seek true privacy, tranquility, and spiritual fulfillment, the definition of luxury is evolving. Located within the Arctic Circle in Finnish Lapland, Octola Private Wilderness is such an ideal place. Here, there are no noisy crowds, no preset travel routes—only endless pristine forests, pure and clear Arctic air, and a lifestyle that is far from the world yet closer to oneself.
Octola does not define luxury as having more, but rather as an authentic experience—a rediscovery of inner peace, clarity, and connection beyond the boundaries of the world, deep in the Arctic wilderness.
At the edge of the world, own a piece of the Arctic wilderness
Situated within the Arctic Circle in Finnish Lapland, Octola boasts over 600 hectares of undeveloped private wilderness reserve. The resort is only about a 20-minute drive from Rovaniemi Airport and approximately a three-hour direct flight from London.
However, Octola’s true value lies not in convenience but in its privacy. To protect guest experience, Octola does not disclose its exact coordinates. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed into their own exclusive Arctic world—no outside visitors, no crowds in public areas, only peaceful moments surrounded by forest, snowfields, and sky.
Founder Janne Honkanen states, “Octola aims to create a place where people reconnect with themselves and nature. Here, the noise of the outside world gradually fades away, replaced by the calming power of the Lapland wilderness.”
Three secluded residences, defining a new realm of Arctic luxury
The Octola Collection currently consists of three uniquely styled private residences. Octola I, the brand’s first luxury residence, is surrounded by 600 hectares of pristine forest and redefines Arctic vacations with an ultimate private experience, making it a favorite for many returning guests. Octola II continues the brand philosophy by establishing a deeper connection between modern design and the natural environment. Octola III further explores the tranquility of seclusion; its exact location is only disclosed to invited guests and is situated in one of the world’s best aurora viewing areas. The northern lights dance slowly across the night sky, offering guests an immersive experience as if transported to another world.
The architectural design draws inspiration from the traditional Lapland Laavu nomadic tents, blending wood, stone, and natural materials into the surrounding landscape. The understated and restrained design language makes the buildings appear as if they naturally grow among the forest rather than being deliberately placed there.
Experience the flow of Arctic nature through the seasons
In summer, the midnight sun keeps daylight almost continuous. Guests can enjoy wild berry picking, forest walks, fishing, and mindfulness practices, feeling the brief yet intense vitality of the Arctic summer under eternal daylight.
In autumn, the forest is covered in golden and crimson hues, and the night sky welcomes stars and the aurora once again. Forest bathing, private sauna experiences, and reindeer interactions help guests regain inner balance amidst nature.
Winter presents the quintessential Lapland scene. Dog sledding across snowfields, the blue hour in quiet forests, the warm rituals of the Christmas season, and over 200 nights of visible northern lights combine to create an unforgettable winter experience.
When spring arrives, ice and snow gradually melt, rivers flow again, and wildlife becomes active. With increasing daylight hours, hiking and nature observation become important ways to connect with the Arctic ecosystem.
Defining future luxury through sustainability
Sustainability has always been a core part of Octola’s brand philosophy. As one of the first luxury accommodations in the Nordic and Arctic regions to achieve a carbon-negative footprint, Octola is committed long-term to environmental protection and ecological management. It collaborates with organizations such as Visit Finland and Sustainable Finland to promote more responsible travel.
Over 95% of the staff come from the local community. The hotel strengthens ties with the local community by prioritizing local employment, supporting regional economic development, and promoting Lapland’s traditional culture. At the same time, Octola actively supports the preservation and promotion of Sámi culture through cultural experiences, traditional activities, and interactions with the local community, allowing guests to deeply understand the rich and unique cultural heritage of the Arctic region.
The hotel also partners with the University of Lapland to offer professional guided tours and educational programs that help guests understand the impact of climate change on the Arctic ecosystem and wildlife, further raising environmental awareness.
A travel experience beyond the destination
This is a journey inward, an opportunity to reconnect with nature, and a sanctuary where body and mind can regain balance. When the Arctic forest breathes pure air, when the northern lights slowly flow across the night sky, and when time seems to slow down, people, far from the noise, can hear the voice of their inner self again. In the vast wilderness of Finnish Lapland, Octola is redefining the meaning of contemporary luxury travel in a quieter, purer way.
