Planning a trip to Antalya? 🌴☀️ Before you book your hotel, pack your suitcase and start planning day trips, there are a few things that can make your trip much easier — and potentially save you time and money. Antalya isn’t just a beach destination. It’s a huge region with a lively city, historic old town, waterfalls, mountains, ancient ruins and some of Turkey’s most popular resort areas. Here are the things I’d want to know before my first trip. 🏖️ 1. ANTALYA CITY ≠ ANTALYA RESORTS This is probably the biggest thing to understand. When people say “Antalya,” they can mean the city itself or the much larger Antalya Province. If you’re staying around: 📍 Kaleiçi → historic center, restaurants, nightlife and city atmosphere 📍 Konyaaltı → beach, cafés, city convenience 📍 Lara → large resorts, beaches and an easy holiday atmosphere 📍 Belek → luxury resorts and golf 📍 Kemer → mountains, beaches and resort towns These can feel like completely different vacations. 🏛️ 2. DON’T SPEND YOUR WHOLE TRIP INSIDE THE RESORT All-inclusive hotels can be incredibly tempting. Buffet. Pool. Beach. Cocktails. Repeat. 😂 But Antalya has so much outside the resort areas. Explore Kaleiçi, walk around the old harbor, see Hadrian’s Gate and spend some time simply wandering through the old streets. 🌊 3. THE BEACHES AREN’T ALL THE SAME Antalya has different types of beaches. 🏖️ Lara is known for its long sandy coastline. 🌊 Konyaaltı has a different atmosphere with the dramatic Taurus Mountains behind it. And outside the city, you’ll find plenty more beaches and coastal landscapes. So don’t assume that the beach closest to your hotel is automatically the best one. 🚌 4. DISTANCES CAN BE DECEPTIVE Look at the map before booking a hotel. Two places can both say “Antalya” while being quite far apart. If you want to explore the city, staying deep inside a resort area may mean spending much more time getting around. ☀️ 5. SUMMER CAN BE VERY HOT Antalya’s summer isn’t simply “warm beach weather.” It can be seriously hot, especially around midday. Plan outdoor sightseeing for the morning or later afternoon when possible. And don’t forget: 🧴 Sunscreen 🧢 Hat 💧 Water 👕 Light clothing 🌅 6. DON’T IGNORE SUNSET The Mediterranean coastline is made for sunset. Find a good viewpoint, beach or seaside café and stay until the light changes. Antalya after sunset has a completely different atmosphere. 🏛️ 7. THERE’S ANCIENT HISTORY EVERYWHERE If you think Antalya is only about beaches, you’re missing a huge part of the region. You can visit ancient sites such as: 🏛️ Perge 🏟️ Aspendos 🏛️ Termessos 🏺 Side And that’s what makes the region special: Beach holiday + ancient history + mountains + city life. You don’t have to choose just one. 📌 FINAL TIP Don’t plan Antalya as: Hotel → beach → hotel → airport. Give yourself at least some time to explore beyond your resort. Perge Ancient City 🏛️ Impressive Roman ruins with colonnaded streets, stadium and ancient architecture. Around 18 km east of central Antalya. 5. Lara Beach 🌊 Better choice if you prefer sandy beaches and resort-style atmosphere. Lara is also known for its large beachfront hotels. 6. Kurşunlu Waterfall 🌿 A quieter, green alternative to Düden, surrounded by forest and walking trails. 7. Aspendos Ancient Theatre 🏛️ About an hour east of Antalya. Its Roman theatre is exceptionally well preserved and is one of the region’s major archaeological attractions. 8. Antalya Archaeological Museum 🏺 One of the best places to understand the ancient civilizations of the Antalya region, especially if you’re visiting Perge, Aspendos or Termessos. 9. Termessos Ancient City ⛰️ A spectacular ancient city high in the Taurus Mountains. Best for hiking + history, rather than a simple sightseeing stop. 10. Karaalioglu Park 🌅 Great panoramic views over the Mediterranean and Antalya cliffs. The Land of Legends is a fantastic place to visit and definitely one of the highlights of Antalya. It is a great place for shopping, food, entertainment, or simply walking around and enjoying the atmosphere. There are plenty of international brands, local shops, cafes, restaurants and food options, so you can easily spend a few hours there even if you are not planning to do much shopping. For us, the best part was the evening entertainment. The light show and boat parade are colourful, lively and enjoyable for both adults and children. The whole place looks beautiful in the evening with the lights, music and performances. I would recommend checking the show days and timings before you go, as the performances may not take place every day. Getting there is quite easy by local taxi or Uber from most nearby hotels and resorts. Overall, The Land of Legends is well worth a visit if you are staying in Antalya. Go in the late afternoon, enjoy some shopping and food, and stay for the evening shows. It is a very enjoyable place for families and a nice way to spend an evening.

Inside the gate are winding Ottoman streets with cobblestone roads lined by colorful wooden houses. Vines hang from second-floor balconies, and cafes and shops hide deep in the alleys. Don’t bother with a map—just wander, every corner holds a surprise. Walk down to the Roman harbor and look down from the cliff at the U-shaped bay packed with sailboats and yachts, backed by the deep blue Mediterranean. I could stare at this view all day. There’s an Antalya museum in the old town. Tickets cost 15 euros. Download the Müzekart app in advance to scan the ticket QR code and listen to free Chinese audio guides. The Roman marble sculptures inside are more exquisite than expected. There’s a walkway below the waterfall where you can go behind the curtain of water. Looking out from inside, the sea and waterfall frame the same view—an experience you won’t find many places in the world. Free entry, reachable by bus, just a half-hour from the old town. Best to go before 9 AM. Tour buses arrive after 10, so you’ll have the whole area almost to yourself before then. 〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️ 🏛️ Aspendos ancient theater | a 2,000-year-old acoustic marvel About 50 km from the city, a 40-minute drive. Tickets cost 340 lira, roughly 70–80 RMB. Built in 155 AD, this ancient Roman theater is 96 meters in diameter and seats 15,000 people. It’s the best-preserved Roman theater in the world. The most amazing part is its acoustics—stand in the center of the stage and speak normally, and the last row at the top can hear you clearly without any amplification. Every June and July, an opera festival is held here. Just imagining sitting on 2,000-year-old stone steps watching an open-air opera gives me goosebumps. Afternoon is the best time for lighting, with sunlight hitting the colonnade from the side, creating rich shadows—perfect for photos. Plus, fewer tourists come in the afternoon, so you can basically have the stone steps to yourself. If you don’t drive, take a minibus from Antalya’s long-distance bus station to Serik town, then transfer to bus 10. The whole trip takes about 1.5 hours. Or join a local day tour that includes tickets, lunch, and transfers for about 45 euros—convenient and hassle-free. 〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️〰️ 🏠 accommodation is the highlight 🏠 The courtyard is in a stone alley halfway up the hill in Kaş town, just three minutes off the D400 highway. In Kaleiçi, you can step from the busy tourist streets straight into old domestic Antalya. Antalya Ethnography Museum is set inside 2 Ottoman mansions from the 19th century and shows how local life looked before hotels, beach clubs and souvenir streets took over the old town. Inside, you can see recreated rooms with life-size figures, a kitchen, bedroom, bath area, coffee objects, jewelry, traditional clothing, handmade carpets, musical instruments and a weaving loom. The museum is divided between 2 buildings. The lower mansion focuses more on historical objects: Seljuk tiles from Aspendos Theatre, Ottoman ceramics from the 16th to 20th centuries, glass lamps, old keys, weapons, seals, clocks, amulets and calligraphy. The upper mansion feels more like old Antalya home life, with a guest room, bedroom, kitchen, bath corner, costumes, jewelry, coffee culture and everyday household objects. ✨️ You only need about 30-40 minutes here, but it gives Kaleiçi a different layer: old marina views, cafes and Hadrian’s Gate outside, and the city’s domestic history inside. Entrance is free, opening hours are 08:30-20:00, and when I visited, there were almost no people inside. Antalya was an amazing holiday destination. Great for couples, families and solo travellers! So much to do in Antalya, where do I start? I loved visiting The Land of Legends, which is home to one of the most spectacular hotels and theme parks! It also has a beautiful stream of water running through it, which showcases a light show every night and you can also enjoy a gondola ride! Lots of restaurants and clothes to see and explore. Another place I loved visiting was the Duden Waterfalls. It has the most breathtaking waterfall and caves that you can walk through to get to the waterfall area. It’s easy to walk around but I will recommend comfortable footwear! I have to give a shoutout to our hotel - Swandor Topkapi Palace. It is an all inclusive hotel and is one of the best hotels that I’ve stayed in. It has about 4 swimming pools so you have so many to pick from if one of ever full. Compared to the bustling, charming Konyaaltı Beach nearby, the museum is quiet and unassuming, which made it a bit of a challenge to find. The museum is small, but its collection is breathtaking. The exhibits primarily feature sculptures unearthed from the ancient Roman city of Perge in Antalya. The Perge site is vast and includes the famous Aspendos Theatre, which has witnessed the evolution of numerous ancient European civilizations, from the Hittites and Phoenicians to the Greeks and Romans. The Antalya Museum, much like the sculptures it houses, seems to whisper in contemplation. It silently guided me into that solemn and magical history.
