Shanghai often makes you feel that you should keep moving: another landmark, another neighbourhood, another photograph. Yet one of my favourite walks in the city became memorable precisely because, for a while, we stopped trying to see as much as possible. We started from Nanjing Road and walked towards Suzhou Creek. Almost immediately, the atmosphere changed. There were very few people along the water, and the city felt unusually quiet and peaceful. Instead of following a checklist, we simply continued along the riverbank and let the route unfold naturally. Our first proper stop was the Shanghai Postal Museum. Its collection of old postage stamps was surprisingly extensive, although we are not serious stamp enthusiasts. We spent more time looking at the building itself. Sometimes a museum is worth entering not only for its exhibits, but also for the character of the place housing them, and this was one of those occasions for us. Afterwards, we returned to the waterfront and found a cafe overlooking the water, with the Oriental Pearl Tower visible in the distance. This became the moment I remember most clearly from the entire walk. We sat beside Suzhou Creek with cold coffee and dessert, watching everyday life pass around us. Nothing dramatic happened, and there was no famous attraction demanding our attention. We did not need to reach the next place quickly or search for the perfect photograph. We could simply sit, look at the water and observe Shanghai from a distance. Eventually, we continued towards North Bund. The walk gradually brought the familiar skyline back into view, but by then it felt less like the main destination and more like a natural ending to a quiet afternoon. The route connected several very different versions of Shanghai: busy Nanjing Road, the calm banks of Suzhou Creek, the historic Postal Museum and the open waterfront of North Bund. Yet the best part was not any individual stop. It was the space between them and the freedom to pause whenever we wanted. If you try this walk, leave some time unplanned. We apply for an Arrival Card. The QR code you receive after filling out the form is valid for 24 hours. Catch your hunger and go shopping 🥟 Food: We go try the legendary shrimp dumplings at SEE JOYED Xiaren Dumplings. When planning a trip, we often feel that we have to choose between exploring a city and escaping into nature. Shanghai Greenhouse Garden proves that the two experiences can exist in the same place. Outside, you are still in one of the world’s largest cities. Inside, the urban landscape disappears surprisingly quickly as the route leads through three completely different natural environments: Sand Mirage, Cloud Forest and Cloud Canyon. Sand Mirage creates the strongest visual contrast with the rest of the garden. Its unusual colours, dry landscape and sculptural plants make it feel almost otherworldly. Cacti and other arid plants form shapes that are very different from the greenery most people expect to find inside a greenhouse. It is a particularly interesting area for wide photographs and close-ups of textures. Cloud Forest changes the atmosphere completely. The landscape becomes greener, denser and more humid, with ponds, tropical plants and a waterfall. Elevated walkways let you see the vegetation from different levels, while the underwater corridor offers another perspective from below the surface. This was one of the places where the visit felt less like a conventional botanical exhibition and more like walking through an immersive natural environment. Cloud Canyon is the brightest and most colourful part. Tropical flowers create vivid compositions throughout the pavilion, making almost every turn feel like a new photography spot. We visited without children, but we also noticed a splash area where younger visitors can take off their shoes, run through the shallow water and cool down. The experience is not limited to the three main landscapes. There is also an underground section with projections, suspended paths and many transitions that constantly change the angle of view. The paths curve, divide and reconnect, so it is easy to wonder whether you have missed something. That was exactly what happened to us. After completing the route, we still felt that some corner might have escaped our attention, so we went around for a second time. The second circuit was not repetitive: we noticed new details, found different viewpoints and took more photographs. We spent around two hours inside. The garden is clearly popular, but the number of visitors during our trip remained manageable, and it was still possible to enjoy the scenery and find good angles for photographs. I bought our tickets in advance through Trip.com, which made the visit easy to include in our plans. Yu Garden and the area around it—let’s be real, it’s totally packed and super touristy. But if you’re in Shanghai, skipping it is a big nope! This classic garden is a must-see, even if you’re just in it for the iconic vibes 📸. Here’s the lowdown: Yu Garden (豫园) is famous for its dreamy bridges, lush pavilions, and tranquil ponds right in the middle of the city’s Old Town. The address is 218 Anren Street, Huangpu District, Shanghai. Opening hours are usually 8:30 am to 5:30 pm—so plan accordingly! Heads up: the crowds are no joke. If you roll in during a weekend or holiday, it’s wall-to-wall people. Not exactly zen garden energy, lol. Name of the establishment: Sixi Wharf Seafood Self-Service Hot Pot 📍 Shanghai Huangpu, Nanjing East Road, No. 353, Mosaic Plaza, Building 6, No. 601 We visited a place in Shanghai where you pay a fixed entrance fee and then eat whatever you want for two hours. We really liked this concept! Entry is 149 yuan. Each guest gets a choice of hot pot broth. They have practically everything: hot pot ingredients, sushi, appetizers, fruit, desserts, and drinks. Alcoholic beverages include beer and wine. We were especially impressed by the huge selection of seafood, including some rather unusual options: turtles, sharks, and frogs. 🐢🦈🐸 We were there on a weekend, but were able to sit down without a long wait. The place is located inside a shopping mall—we'd previously tried several other places in this mall, and there were long lines, so that was also a nice bonus. Overall, I highly recommend trying this format, especially if you're traveling in China. The food selection is vast, allowing you to try a lot in one sitting, and the experience itself is quite interesting. ⚠️ Just be careful with the amount of food: as far as we understand, there are penalties for uneaten food, so it's best to order small portions and add more as needed 😉 Definitely worth adding to your list if you enjoy hotpot and buffets. 🙂

Finally, I tried the legendary and super popular Michelin-starred Shanghainese restaurant - Renhe Pavilion! 👏 Before I really booked a table online for a long time, I wanted to come on a nostalgic food trip to old Shanghai ~ As soon as you enter the door, you can immediately feel the gorgeous decoration and full of old Shanghai style. The elegant environment is really perfect for gatherings or celebrating a special day. There are so many choices of dishes at Renhe Pavilion that you can dazzle them. There are all kinds of nostalgic classic Shanghainese dishes! Recommend the must-eat drunk crab, the aroma of wine and sweetness perfectly blend, the crab is very big and lots of paste, sooo good! Then the crab king with rice arrived on the table was already scared by the super large pot of crab king, freshness burst, after eating can not stop mouth ~ 😋 Yellow fish noodles are another key recommendation! The soup is milky and delicate, the fish fillet is smooth and sweet, every bite is a happy taste! The rest of the signature dishes were unbeatable. If you're heading to Shanghai Disneyland and aren't sure which rides are worth your time, here are my personal top 3: 🥇 Pirates of the Caribbean I just love it ❤️ I never expected this ride to impress me so much. It's not just a boat ride; you literally find yourself in a huge adventure: pirates, ships, the sea, battles, huge sets, and an incredible sense of scale. Of all the Disneyland rides, I'd definitely put this one at number one. We were able to ride it twice. The second time, in the evening, we skipped the line in 5 minutes (5-6 PM). 🥈 Roaring Rapids This is where the real adventure begins 😄 You board a huge round raft and float down a turbulent river: you're spun, tossed, and faced with rapids, waterfalls, dark caves, and unexpected drops. And yes, you can get very wet 😂 so I recommend buying a raincoat right in line. It's only 10 yuan. I bought it and didn't regret it. 🥉 Soaring Over the Horizon - "Flying Over the Horizon" Now this was a completely unusual experience. You're lifted into the air in a chair, your legs literally dangling, and there's a huge screen in front of you. And then the journey begins: it's as if you're flying over different corners of the world—mountains, cities, nature. And it's not just the image that moves: the chairs tilt, you feel the wind, the smells change, and your brain really begins to believe you're flying. It's very beautiful and completely unlike any other ride. And now for the ride that I would put in last place 😅 TRON Lightcycle Power Run. And here's where I might be about to shatter some people's expectations 😂 Because TRON was the ride we were most recommended for, and it was the one we stood in one of the longest lines for. But in the end, for me, it turned out to be the most terrifying ride in all of Disneyland. You get on a motorcycle, and it accelerates at incredible speed. Then you're suddenly thrown downwards, and it feels like you're actually falling into nowhere. And the worst part is, your body doesn't even register it as "pretend." Your heart is pounding, your adrenaline is pumping, and after the ride, I was actually shaking for a while. I generally enjoy thrills, but for me, this ride wasn't "wow, how cool" anymore; it was "Oh, my God, when will this end?!" 😂 So if you don't like high speeds, sharp drops, and extreme sensations, I'd think very carefully before going on TRON.
