If you ask me what to eat in Chengdu, I wouldn't just say "hotpot," but you absolutely must try authentic, local Sichuan hotpot like the one here. The restaurant we ate at was Zhazha Qianniudao Hotpot – Kui Xing Lou, located in a small alley. From the outside, it doesn't look particularly striking, but once inside, it's completely different. The space is very large, with multiple floors, and tables are always full. As soon as you enter, you hear conversations and clinking glasses – it feels very much like the vibrant life of Chengdu. The most special thing here is that it's not just about eating, but also about the show. Throughout the meal, there's almost always something happening. There's traditional dance, live music, and especially Sichuan opera performances right in the dining area. The proximity makes it incredibly lively. Even the performances outside the restaurant are great, so waiting for a table doesn't feel like a waste of time. Regarding the food, we ordered the鸳鸯 hotpot (Yuanyang hotpot) to try both flavors. The spicy broth has a very distinctive Sichuan style of spiciness, not an overpowering heat but a fragrant and slightly numbing spiciness that becomes more addictive the longer you eat. It might be a little strange at first, but you get used to it and become quite addicted. The non-spicy broth is milder, balancing the flavors. The beef here is what impressed me most. It's tender and fresh; you only need to dip it for a few seconds before eating it, and it's not tough at all. The spicy broth has a richer flavor, while the non-spicy broth makes it easier to eat. A big plus is the dipping sauce, which is prepared by the staff. Normally, when I eat hot pot, I have to mix it myself, but here they prepare it using their own recipe, resulting in a very balanced flavor that pairs perfectly with the beef. Additionally, the restaurant allows direct ordering via Alipay and can translate to Vietnamese, so even if you don't know Chinese, ordering is very easy. This is something I find extremely tourist-friendly.
