As the name of the park suggests, the site of Gyeongsanggamyeong Park is the site of the Gyeongsanggamyeong, the government office in charge of Gyeongsang Province during the reign of King Seonjo of the Joseon Dynasty. During the Japanese colonial period, this place was used as the site of the Gyeongbuk Provincial Office and Daegu City Hall. After the relocation of Daegu City Hall, it was reorganized into a park in 1970 and is now used as a resting place for Daegu citizens. The park was originally named Central Park, meaning it is in the center of Daegu, because a road marker, a structure symbolizing the center of the city, is installed in the park. In 1997, it was reorganized and reopened as Gyeongsang Gamyeong Park for the purpose of restoring and preserving Gyeongsang Gamyeong. Inside the park, there are Seonhwadang (宣化堂), where the Gyeongsang Gamyeong governor worked, and Jingcheonggak (澄淸閣), which was used as the residence of the Gyeongsang Gamyeong governor, and a total of 29 steles erected by descendants to commemorate the good governance of the governor and Daegu magistrate. Maple and ginkgo trees are planted around Seonhwadang and Jingcheonggak, creating a beautiful landscape in the fall.
