This week we continued our big outdoor family trip and took the kids to Zhinnan Village in Lin’an, about a 1h+ drive from Hangzhou. For families with kids, this itinerary is fun, scenic, and not tiring. If you go this weekend, you should still be able to see the ginkgo trees. Sharing with everyone (see pictures 1-20)～ . 🌈 Linchuan Ancient Trail + Zhinnan Village Introduction The highlight of this family-friendly route is that you can both hike and enjoy the millennium-old giant ginkgo trees. We took the Linchuan Ancient Trail, a loop that takes about 3 hours. After hiking for 1 hour, you’ll pass Tangding in Zhinnan Village, and after another 0.5 hours, you’ll reach the Hongye Zhinnan Scenic Area with the thousand-year-old ginkgo tree. The scenic area is well developed, with guesthouses and a whole street of snack shops. You can rest well at the top before heading down. If you really don’t want to hike, there’s a scenic shuttle bus for 20 yuan to go up and down the mountain. . 🌈 Navigation Address 📍 Use Gaode Map to navigate to “Shenlongchuan Scenic Area Archway,” located near Shenlongchuan Scenic Area in Hengdu Village, Taihu Source Town, Lin’an District, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. This archway with characters is very noticeable whether you drive or take a taxi. Another landmark is a restroom under the big archway. If you come by car, you can use the restroom before starting the hike. By the way, the first hour is almost all uphill with no shops selling water, so remember to bring enough drinking water. . 🌈 Zhinnan Village Introduction If hiking up the mountain, you’ll pass through two villages. The millennium-old giant ginkgo tree is in the second village. The first village, Tangding, is just a passing point where you can buy some supplies. The second village is better equipped and is where we mainly visited and rested. The whole village is small and can be explored in about an hour. There are various wild snacks, coffee drinks, bike rentals, and more. The largest ginkgo tree is by Tianchi Pond. . 🌈 Family Experience Activities For kids, the leaves in all colors—red, green, yellow—are very attractive this season. You can bring a drawstring trash bag to collect leaves, which can be used to make leaf specimens with special leaf laminating stickers or to create popular leaf hats, leaf collages, and more. There’s also a shop in the village selling ma ci (glutinous rice cakes), where you can buy some and try pounding rice cakes. . 🌈 Ginkgo Tree Photo Guide Although we came specifically to see the autumn ginkgo trees, the ginkgo trees here are scattered individually, not clustered. So whenever you see a beautiful ginkgo tree along the way, feel free to stop and take photos. The 1000-year-old ginkgo tree is so big that it’s hard to capture both the person and the tree fully in one shot.
