Chapel of Bones (Évora) Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
There are human bone churches in many parts of the world, both in Czech and Italian, and it is not uncommon. In Evora, Portugal, there is also such a place. The top of the door says that your bones will eventually be with me. I think of Mr. Zhaos famous sentence: The small box is your home forever. Life and death are long and short, so good every day
Among the Portuguese destinations, visitors usually go to Lisbon and Porto, or have a college town in Coimbra. But the world heritage city of Evora has attracted many tourists because of the human bone church. The human bone church is actually not large, the length is no more than 60 meters, the width is about 11 meters, but it contains more than 5,000 wills.
The walls and columns of the church are made of human bones. It is dense and gives a sense of suffocation.
A black death in the 14th century and a war in the 15th century, the small town of Evora has killed more than 30,000 people, and the death toll is so large that there is no room for resettlement. In the 16th century, the priests moved the bones into the church and piled them into pyramids. There were too many people. Later, some people simply used the bones as decorative materials, and they inadvertently created today's human bone church.

🇵🇹 Well preserved Evora Old Town, Portugal
Evora is the capital of Portugal's south-central Alentejo region. It was incribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986. The city's historic centre is small enough to be explored on foot. You can start exploring from Giraldo Square (Praça do Giraldo), the main square in Évora surrounded by notable landmarks, historic buildings, shops, cafes, and restaurants. You certainly won't miss the landmarks such as the ancient Roman Temple of Évora (also called the Temple of Diana) from 1st century, Cathedral of Évora from 12th century and also spectacular stone aqueduct that borders the old town from the 16th century. I like the old town centre as it is well-preserved. You can see a lot of medieval walls amidst the new buildings.

Temple of Diana
#europetrip (Temple of Diana) is located in a very nice park. It’s has very beautiful architecture and is a very well kept temple. The temple is surrounded by a very lovely garden. The temple is just one of many sites to see. It’s fairly large park and it’s worth the trip visiting and checking out the temples, statues, water fountains and ponds located in and around the area. I enjoyed my time here and would definitely recommend taking a nice long walk in this park and seeing its beautiful surroundings and sites.

In 2023 I wish to travel to Korea as my Korea trip was cancelled 2 years ago due to the pandemic. So it's time to fly again!

Portugal Skydive - Skydiving School Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
Ticking skydiving off the bucket list!
#2023travelwish
Skydiving is one of the activities on many thrill seekers' bucket list. We did in when we were in Portugal. You can do it in many other drop zones across Europe.
Skydiving is available in a few places in Portugal. Our first choice is in Algarve, Faro because of the beautiful views of the beaches in southern Portugal. There are skydiving packages which include domestic flight from Lisbon to Algarve. So even though skydiving is not available in Lisbon we can also do it during our visit to Lisbon. Unfortunately the weather was not good so we had to cancel the skydiving trip on Algarve. Eventually we did it in Evora, a city in south-central Portugal, about 1.5 h train ride from Lisbon.
We paid 199 euros each to skydive from the highest available height (about 4200 m) where we get to experience free fall for about 1 minute. You can of course pay extra (at least 60 euros) to add on photos and videos. Photos and videos are taken from the instructor's internal camera and from the external camera of another videographer skydiver.
In 2023 I wish to skydive in another beautiful place!

🇵🇹 71-year old Dad Tried Skydiving!
#2024wish
We were really lucky that the weather permitted us to skydive during our visit to Portugal. Initially we booked skydiving in Faro, the southern part of Portugal with nice beaches. However the weather was not good there. So we chose to skydive in Evora instead. Evora is about 1.5 h from Lisbon by train.
Skydiving has been in my dad's bucket list for a long time. We tried to do it in New Zealand in 2019 but the weather was not good when we were there. Then we stopped traveling for almost 3 years due to the pandemic. Finally my dad got to tick skydiving off his bucket list at an age of 71! I'm so proud of him.
Tandem skydiving is really easy. Just follow the instructions given and trust your instructor. The whole process, excluding briefing, can be completed in 30 minutes. 15-20 minutes airplane ride, jump off the plane and free fall for about 1 min, open the parachute and glide for about 5 min and you will have an experience of a lifetime.
We paid 199 euros for 4200 m skydive. You can of course pay extra to add on photos and videos.
