Mount Nebo and the Memorial Church of Moses

Located in Jordan, Mount Nebo is an elevated ridge that stands approximately 700 meters above sea level. This historic site is mentioned in the Bible as the place where Moses was granted a view of the Promised Land before his death. The church was first constructed to commemorate the place of Moses’ death. The view from the summit provides a panorama of the West Bank across the Jordan River valley. Atop Mount Nebo, you’ll find the Memorial Church of Moses. This historic church, also known as the Maqam Nabi Musa, was built around 4th-century foundations in 597 and has undergone major reconstruction. It houses some of the best mosaics in Jordan, dating from around 530. These mosaics portray images of wildlife and hunting, reflecting local pastimes in the Byzantine era. #tripblazers
